I have a Brain MRI with R/O contrast scheduled and I'm freaking out!! Anyone ever have this done? I've never had an MRI, let alone IV or any contrast. Of course I have anxiety and I'm freaking out about the procedure. What does it feel like? How long do you feel it go through you? Any side effects? Any dangers? How does one know if they are allergic to the contrast? Please help me understand a little better and calm down. Thank you!!!!!!
At that time, at CT scan found a fatty mass in the center of my brain. An MRI found no blood flow and no real attachment to anything, it's just there. I had a Gastric Bypass in Dec 2002, the fall and seizure happened Thanksgiving day, 2003 after a mentally traumatic phone call on Halloween a month before. My husband was in IRAQ and called right before the base was attacked by bombs, I was able to listen to the entire attack. Forty five minutes of MY friends, his batttle buddies screaming.
I went to the Neurologist on 3/11/2011. She ordered an MRi of the brain and spine. And a day video monitor EEG. She only reviewed the results of the CT scan that was done on 2/26/2011, I didnt have the other from 9/ available at the appointment. She told me that the agenisis was a congenital disorder and had nothing to do with ANY of my symptoms, she tells me rather that I may have low blood pressure and will probbaly need a referral to a cardiologist if the tests come back inconclusive.

This sounds like lhermittes sign, has anybody seen a neurologist? I'm having a brain and spinal cord MRI in a couple weeks, and finally have a referral to see a neurologist. They are trying to rule out MS. I have been experiencing this for years, and is so random when it happens. Nothing ever triggers it and it causes me to reach for my head, it almost feels like a shocking brain freeze. Good luck all.
Left arm Including Paralysis of hands - August 2007 Symptoms went away MRI - Sowed clean brain scan - No MS DX Transverse Mylitis Terrible mid section pain - Jan 2008 - CT W Contrast showed nothing, possible virus, given antibiotics, no relief, just went away Numbness and tingling - Rigth Arm & Terrible Miagrains - April 2008 Forwarded to Hospital after hospital then MS Clinic Neuro said Brain Scan clear, one spot occurred on T1 but it was "missed" on the other MRI and most likely
at the time he was playing a video game. we found out this day that he had a smaller type seizure at a friends house about a month ago that he did not tell us about. during both times he was playing video games. he also complains of periodic headaches, but they are not bad. EMS was called and he was taken to the ER. at first they did a cat scan with contrast that was normal. the next morning they did an MRI with contrast. they found a 1.1cm right temporal lobe 'lesion'.
) They have now done an MRI on my brain and I am awaiting their call. I just wanted to say to everyone, worries gets you no were. When I talked to my neurologist he gave me the possible causes for it. Some scary others not so much, so I have decided that I’ll just deal with it. I can do everything I want now so I am going to enjoy it and take the news as it comes. Now this does not mean I am not nervous and I jump for the phone every time I hear it ring.
I had to start the Vicodin again to ease the pain but have to tolerate the nausea. How do you know if your brain is swelling? So many questions and no answers....
my neurosurgeon said my brain is swelled from the gamma and i see him on the 12th . that scares me so much . how will this be treated and any damange to my brain ? im worried i chose the wrong treatment for my tumor . my seizures are getting out of control and my kids are scared, they have never seen my seizures before the gamma .any advice and help.
Hi All, I'm new here, just found out about the forum on Google and was amazed with the amount of information you post here! I'm 29 and I'm from Brazil but live in Ireland. At the moment I'm getting into a diagnosis of MS, although I personally have no doubt that it's my "issue" from my history of symptoms etc.
I just did some research and found if anemia is left untreated it can damage the nerves and the heart (which my doctor didn't tell me anything about she said anemia just means you need more vitamins) so she gave me a months worth of vitamin b12 and iron and I finished those and thought I was all better but now I've developed some nerve problems and I was wondering if you could tell me if it's caused by my anemia or not. I've had an eeg and a brain mri done all normal.
I had an MRI last year when I was admitted for sudden onset deafness with severe vertigo and a brain tumour was suspected. No brain tumour was found but it did show a few areas of increased T2 signal in the periventricular white matter. The radiologist said this was probably just small vessel ischaemic change but I have no risk factors for this. I'm young, don't smoke or drink, no migraines, hypertension, high cholesterol etc etc. No cerebellar atrophy was found.
Yes, they probably are from migraines, but need to be treated. Probably not from a brain tumor. An MRI or CT scan would tell you for sure. But it sounds like you may have some anxiety or depression which also needs treatment. Why don't you start with some counseling. Your school should have a counselor. If that doesn't help, then go to your doctor and tell them, like you wrote above, about your feelings.
We consulted our pediatricia who suggested we see a neurologit at our states pediatric hospital. After doing so we were told we needed and MRI and a Video EEG. The MRI was recently done and we got the results. I am so lost with these results because I have done research into his "issues" and feel so helplessly confused. All of teh research says my son should be way below average in his development and ever mentally disabled!
Unfortunately, something small showed up on one CT scan in the ER, but I didn't get an MRI until 3 weeks later, at which point nothing showed up so they figured it was an artifact. I'm pretty sure they're not seizures since I had an EEG done. What a weird test that was. I've been getting a lot more headaches since stopping Propranolol, sadly, and I'm taking the tartrate version of Metaprolol. I used to have a home blood pressure monitor but I rarely used it, so I got rid of it.
Only if and when we video record seizures and look at the EEG in conjunction with the video, to see if the seizures are all coming from one general region of the brain, do we consider more invasive testing.
In Dec the doctors did and MRI,cat scan and a eeg. They found legions on her brain. Eeg was positive also. Meds helped little and cause mood disorders. Also. Her thyroid was affected. Later came chronic stomach pains and eating problems. Jerks and seizures. And now throat problems, diarrhea.

Tests like video EEG help to detect changes in the pattern of brain waves. CT scan /MRI brain may be done to rule out any structural abnormalities in the brain. Seek medical help. Consult a neurologist. I sincerely hope it helps. Take care and regards!
Let's see how to explain this - when you are in the MRI - they actually take the MRI several different ways to light up different things. So if you look at the film it will say something weighted etc. That way they can tell if it is a cyst or tumor and the nature of it being cyst or tumor. Odd that they are not telling you anything at all though... you are her mother! Just FYI - some people are born with cysts - and they can get quite large so they need to be removed. Lets hope it is that.
i am awaiting the results of an mri brain scan and eeg.i have seizure like fits.more major muscle spasms that require 20mg of valium to stop and sometimes more administered in hospital.they last for upto 4 hours a day.it started 5 years ago when my legs started going numb and i found it hard to walk.then it spread to my arms and i find it hard to lift or brush my hair.then 8 months ago i developed these seizure types and a burning itchy feeling all over my body.
If PET scan is normal, it means all the areas of the brain are taking up good amount of sugar. This is rare with a lesion. An MRI which is normal can confirm the findings of a normal PET scan. The slow build up may not significantly alter the amount of sugar uptake. The PET scan should be ideally interpreted by a Radiologist, preferably a Neuroradiologist. PET scan and EEG are two different procedures, running on two different principles.
Sometimes a video EEG may be recommended which records EEG pattern during a particular time period. Tests like CT scan /MRI brain may be done to rule out any structural abnormalities in the brain. Do consult an expert on epilepsy and keep us posted. I sincerely hope it helps. Best luck!
Hi, My nine year son facing epilepsy from last two years. At the start of epilepsy the seizures attack increase up to 20/22 per 24 hours.Every attack has 6 to 10 seconds. We make MRI scan and EEG reports which is available in Mumbai. Some report comes normal. Some report the problem tint in right frontal lob & other tint in Left frontal lob(MRI BRAIN,SPECT,PET SCAN,14 HOURS VIDEO EEG REPORT.No report can highlight spot.Physicians already tried Tegrital,Fresium,Lemitec kid,Levipil,Valparin.
Based on these examinations, the neurologist may be able to localize a possible problem whether in the brain or the spine. From here, he or she may request imaging studies like a brain scan or MRI, that would confirm or reinforce anything that she suspects. At this point, it is very early to jump to conclusions. I hope that your meeting with the neurologist will be fruitful and that everything will turn out OK. Regards.
If you have than epilepsy can be ruled out. If not, than it could still be epilepsy. There are no actual tests for epilepsy. An MRI or CT scan can show areas in the brain where there may be an abnormality such as a lesion or tumor but even then epilepsy may or may not be a problem. Seizures beginning at over 4 years of age can be caused brain tumors or lesions, by metabolic abnormalities, chemical or toxin ingestion, head trauma, or ideopathic (of unknown cause).
