Avatar f tn Of all Parotid masses, 75% are neoplastic and the remaining 25% are due to cysts and inflammation. Of parotid neoplasms, a good 70-80% are benign. The cause of Parotid masses are not known, although, the possibility of an adenoma gene currently is under investigation. Hematologic and serologic tests are of little help in the workup of salivary gland tumors. At this point, the best thing to do is to eat healthy and have regular follow up with your doctor. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Small foci of enhancement are seen in both parotid glands, the largest 6 mm x 3 mm in size in the tail of the left parotid gland, unlikely to be of a clinical significance, probably representing focally prominent vessels or small intraparotid lymph nodes of no clinical significance. follow up study in 6 months time can be considered for further evaluation if clinically warranted. OK here goes This is my six month testing and i will list the whole thing.
Avatar m tn Have you had biopsy on either of the masses on the parotid gland or the left lobe of your thyroid gland? The only connection between the thyroid gland and the parathyroids is the location in the body. They have totally different functions, but yes, you'll need a scan to find out why your calcium levels are high.
Avatar f tn I got everything under the sun checked, saw a neuro, allergist, ent, regular gp, ophthalmologist, etc. Got mri of brain and neck, ct scan of sinuses, infinite bloodwork, eeg, emg, and allergy tested. Nothing came back as anything significant except an FNA of my parotid gland came back as sialadenitis (sorry can't spell that well). The only thing that seemed to help was the Candida diet, which is no sugar, wheat, dairy basically after a few weeks I got better.
Avatar f tn The stricture is likely to cause an accumulation of saliva in the parotid gland, and when you eat it stimulates the gland to produce more saliva. This accumulation can lead to stasis and an infection of the gland causing pain and consequent sweating. The stricture needs to be surgically corrected for the symptoms to resolve. You will need to consult your doctor who may need to do a culture and sensitivity if there is discharge to determine what antibiotic the organism is susceptible to.
Avatar n tn I think you may mean "Parotid" gland. I also have swollen Parotid glands due to Sjogren's Disease. I don't have any insight for you in regard to it being related to the herniated disk. Good luck with your doctor's appointment.
Avatar n tn I go for a cat scan w/ and w/o contrast of the soft tissue of my face on Tuesday. He scheduled me for a follow up the week after my scan to discuss my results. Hoping for good news.
Avatar m tn This sounds most likely a parotid gland tumor, usually benign and could be cancerous. Certain tests include xrays of salivary gland, sialogram, CT scan or MRI to verify there is a mass and cancer has spread to neck lymph nodes. You need to show this to an otolaryngologist who would investigate in detail including fine needle aspiration cytology and biopsy if required. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar f tn I'm trying to find any information on what this means "increasing hypermetabolism within two nonspecific left parotid gland nodules" My Sister has Stage 4B Ovarian Cancer and just had her PET scan repeated after finishing a round of Chemo. The Doctor seems pleased with the results and went over them with us, but I'm trying to compare the original with the current PET and this is the only "new" thing to show up.
Avatar n tn I went to my physician at week 8, the swelling of parotid gland came down a bit by then. He refered me to a ENT at week 11. The ENT specialist prescribed me pencillin for 10 days and ordered a CT scan. I had a Home HIV test kit done at Week 11 and I got a negative result. The CT scan results came back and he showed me the enlarged lymph node and about 3 other slightly enlarged lymph nodes. He said I had lymphadenopathy.
Avatar n tn At first I was experiencing swollen salivary glands due to the radiation treatment. On my yearly scan we noticied that I had a lot of 'uptake' on the right side of my face. My endrocronologist told me this was normal. This was last year in Oct. and I still am having pain and discomfort. We have scheduled a scan for this Wed. but wondering if anyone out there had a similiar situation, where uptake showed in the parotid gland area???
1876679 tn?1320483351 There could be a block in the parotid gland draining duct which could be causing the inflammation and swelling of the parotid gland. This needs to be surgically corrected for effective drainage of the gland. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Avatar n tn 8cm nodule involving the posterior margin of the left parotid gland superficial lobe abutting the skin surface inferior to the pinna. Conclusion: "Probable subtle left parotid mass. Further evaluation with gadolinium enhanced MR neck recommended.
Avatar n tn I am 49 and had a biopsy on my left parotid gland done on april 30 as I had swelling for 6 weeks on the left side of my cheek and antibiotics did not help, it came back saying it was an "intraparenchymal lymph node with lymphoid hyperplasia". It has now been about 11 weeks and the left side still feels swollen from my cheek up to my ear expecially when I eat or drink or I am in the a/c.
Avatar n tn Dear Dr. Could you please comment on a description of parotid swelling? I have tmj dysfunction (the jaw) and I have no apparent swelling, but do have pain behind the jaw and under the earlobes. I cannot feel the gland anywhere in front of the ears, but do feel what seems to be tissue behind the jaw. Is the swelling common? Is it obvious? I was tested by home access a year and half ago - negative - with no exposure since.
Avatar m tn Hi, one side (left) of my parotid papillae(the thing on the mouth cheeks) is slightly swollen. The right side appears normal. My cheek appears normal and not swollen. Only the parotid papillae is. It is painless. I just found it out yesterday. Attached photo is left and right of it. The right appears normal, the left appears swollen. Why is this happening?
487969 tn?1249313291 Metallic BB markers were placed in the area of described abnormality and correspond to underlying prominent right thyroid lobe and right parotid gland. The appearance of the right parotid gland is unremarkable. The appearance of the right tyroid lobe, although asymmetrically prominent relative to the left is without evidence of discrete mass on CT. Shotty cerfvical lymph nodes noted without evidence of pathologic lymph node enlargement.
Avatar n tn The lump you are palpating near the end of your jaw could be an enlarged lymph node or an enlarged parotid gland. You had several bouts of infection previously. I am more inclined to think that the lump is an enlarged lymph node secondary to your previous bouts of infection. However, a parotid tumor should be ruled-out, as well as lymphoma. It will be hard to differentiate these disease entities without the aid of diagnostic tests.
Avatar m tn Is there any chance that HIV would cause a parotid gland to swell within days of infection?
