My wife has been perscribed fentanyl patches and has been told not to eat grapefruit, does this apply to all citrus fruit ie.
We have been given no information whatsoever since the operation but were however given loads of information before the surgery such as she didn't have cancer, surgery was the only option as the cyst was so badly twisted and apparently the size of a grapefruit. She went in on monday with suspected appendicitis after blood tests, a scan and an mri scan urgent surgery was ordered. She is two days later still on an epidural drip and also a morphine drip.
Should I leave it at home and bring morphine instead, or should I just be myself and bring it? I would appreciate all your opinions. Also if anyone understands about abusive relationships, maybe you could explain my sister's behaviour? I don't know how to help? Thanks everyone for reading and listening. Cindy I hope you are ok too? Let us know what's going on. I hope you all have ways to cope with your pain today.
[10] It reduces the amount of codeine converted by CYP3A4 into norcodeine thus increasing the amount metabolized into morphine. Morphine itself, however, is not affected by grapefruit juice, as it is not metabolized by the cytochrome P450 system. * Cyclosporine (Neoral). Blood levels of cyclosporine are increased if taken with grapefruit juice. A plausible mechanism involves the combined inhibition of enteric CYP3A4 and P-glycoprotein, which potentially leads to serious adverse events (e.g.
I went back to my GI and had the Flex Sig done, and he said everything looked good , and he saw a few small Hemroids. I told him my pain was intolerable, and that we need to find out why I cant sit, for it is painful, and continues throught the day...I asked if maybe I have Levator syndrome, and he kind of shook his head, and said that was the same as IBS. Well I also asked if maybe I had endometrioses on my rectum, he said not possible...
I have been checked out by Neuro, ENT and GP and NOTHING. I'm wondering if I have TMJ but I don't know. Here are my symptoms... Right ear pain Right ear fullness/ringing Pain behind right eye spot headaches on right side grinding teeth at night stiff neck - going into my shoulders I had an MRI/MRA back in Oct and all it showed was chronic sinusitis which I am being treated for by my ENT however he knows the pain is not coming from my ear. I am worried. Could this be an aneursym?
For the last 6 months I have been getting tearing (look like paper cuts) in my vaginal area (1/4 to 1/2 inch long). I get the tears at least once or twice a week and they last from 2-4 days, go away for a few days and then come back. They continue to occur in the same locations; 1. Inside the vaginal lips on the sides almost always in the crease (between the labia minora and majora?) 2. Between the anus and vaginal opening (perineum) 3. Above the clitoris in the "hood" area.
Ive read that lemons and limes are similar to grapefruit in its reaction to certain medications...i am trying to dig it out from google again....lemons do clean the blood and the liver very well...im a big lemon drinker, before i started TX...
I recently switched doctors and am awaiting an appointment until my records are trasnfered. I've been treated on and off for GERD for the past few years with either Zantac or Prilosec. I also recently discovered that my liver functions are elevated. We think the cause is that I've tried a number of different anti-depressant medications during the last four or five years. I don't drink, and a viral profile came back negative for hepatitis.
I have also been eating nuts lately and grapefruit juice. I thought between the morphine not being so fat soluble, and grapefruit containing that enzyme, (of which I can't remember), that inhibits the metabolic process of many drugs, that perhaps I was to blame. My pharmacist leaves a little to be desired.
This, initially the drug does not completely metabolize and has an extended half-life. This why it is dangerous to take grapefruit juice with certain medications. Follow me on this. You take a substance that reduces the production of these enzymes (say grapefruit juice) and for the first four hours the drug does not fully metabolize. After six hours the grapefruit juice wears off, the liver again starts producing these enzymes, and you take a second dose of the medication.
I spent almost the entire labor sitting on an exercise ball leaning forward so my weight was off my butt. The morphine and drugs definitely eased the labor contraction pain, but did nothing for the butt spasms. Not until the epidural- after 36 hours, that finally relieved the anal-spasm-shooting-jabbing-pain. Sorry to be so long-winded, but this is a relief to communicate this somehow. Has any one else experienced this during labor? Thank you for any answers/thoughts..
I got morphine for two days and when discharged got a prescription for codeine/tylenol and a second one for ibuprofen (800 mg strength). It varies depending upon any drug allergies or intolerances.
I have talked to the neurosurgeon who did the surgery and he shrugged his shoulders and said I have no idea and sent me back to my neurologist. He gave me a series of injections in both shoulders and the pain stopped for a couple days but then came right back. Then we tried message therapy, it helps but only for a short period. And I have tried changing my pillows on my bed and sleeping in different positions and nothing seems to help for long term. What can I do?
However, he said it could NOT be causing me so much pain. He checked out my arm and noticed a hard soft tissue knot, and suggested removing it through surgery and it "might" relieve my pain. So, 3 weeks ago I had the said surgery and it was removed (a hard soft tissue mass about the size of a marble). No, this was not the cyst inside my humerus bone. Anyways, I still have the pain, and it is extremely terrible at night (on a scale of 1 to 10, a 20 at night).
The reason you would want to take oxide or citrate is for enhanced laxative proprieties due to the absorption being not so well and i know morphine can cause constipation.
I think everything is over and I clean up. I walk out of the toilet and in about 2 minutes time the stomach cramp and the fainting sensation comes back (I've fainted only once to date from this and was out for about 15-20 minutes). 6. When I get back to the toilet I have a really violent Diarrhoea episode in pure liquid state.
I explained to my doc that #1 Whenever I have been in the hospital or in any traumatic incident that required the administration of morphine, the morphine never worked. It really felt like nothing was administered, and I'm talking about multiple injections. I would always end up getting administered fentanyl or dilaudid or both to dull my pain. I also cited the fact that 3 out of 10 caucasions have an inability to absorb and metabolize morphine. It is a well studied genetic mutation.
When i had gone in my doctor once again she tells me that it is just indigestion and she tells me to get an over the counter acid reflux medication and to continue Mylanta and Tums and Pepto and that it should go away shortly. My symptoms did not go away, I would weigh myself every week, when this began I was the biggest I had ever been and was trying to lose weight through diet and exercise, in the last two weeks of May I went from 236lbs. to 216lbs.
Can one still go into withdrawal even if they are still taking some of their pain meds..I CTd Fentanyl and Morphine and am now tapering Percs and Soma...I really thought that by splitting the stopping of my meds would not leave me with severe withdrawals..I feel like a weak person because I could not CT all of them at once...Thanks all..don't mean to sound whiny...just need reassurance if this is normal or not.
On my own I tapered down to one short acting 15 mg morphine pill and nothing else. I have had nothing in five days. My withdrawals impending saying and I wanted to climb out of my skin and clean to the ceiling. I Toston turn so much that I have rough abrasions all over the outside of my body from turning and not getting comfortable in bed. I have two small children and had to flee to my parents house for several days. I am super tired nauseous and depressed and crying all the time.

I jogged, danced or swam every day and ate fresh foods. I stopped drinking alcohol and meditated. I also played little mind games with myself, forcing myself out of my comfort zones in various situations. I allowed myself to fully imagine the worse case scenarios and go through the feelings, desensitizing. Talking to the anesthesiologist- and officially requesting him - really helped a LOT with trust and info.
chocolate, benedryl, and grapefruit juice. I can't drink grapefruit juice, but the chocolate and benedryl were very helpful. Chocolate helps you produce endorphines, the benedryl helps to reduce some of the cold sweats and also helps you sleep. After taking Ambien for nearly 3 years, being able to sleep without having to take it was my first first glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel. Oh yeah. I'm not sure what the juice was to supposed to do, but it was supposed to help.
They were able to remove the grapefruit sized (!) tumor along with her uterus, ovaries and all. The best part is that it was not cancer. Pretty amazing and wonderful. She can share the details when she gets back. She appreciates everyone's support and prayers. It really helped her get through this.
I also do grapefruit juice, but the only drug I take is Low Dose Naltrexone and there is no interaction - however, I do the grapefruit juice in the morning and the LDN at night just to make sure.
Also still do not know what type of cyst it was, doc says they wont know untill they get the pathology back but his words were that my ovary was as big as a grapefruit maybe a little bigger and real ugly looking. ????? And i believe they sent the ovary and all to pathology, is that common?
I took about 3 Loperamide tabs, 3 Potassium pills, and 1 Diazepam pill before bed (Drinking a glass of grapefruit juice after). Despite the meds, I could not get to sleep due to RLS, until my girlfriend started massaging my calves, and I fell asleep right away. I woke up about an hour later, and could not get back to sleep. I was almost in tears. I gave-in and took a 1/2mg of suboxone. I took a hot bath, where I remained restless, and lied back down.
I found this problem particularly bad when things were really bad and I had to stay in hospital on PCA morphine. The thing that worked for me much more than any of the meds was drinking a ton of water. It sounds like it wouldn't make a big difference, I know, but if you really drink a LOT (like a big full glass every hour) it really does work. Well, it did for me at least. Of course you're peeing a lot too. I hope that's helpful .
