Avatar m tn What would be a possible course of treatment for the Metronidazole-resistant Trich? I read, that perhaps Tinidazole would be the next choice of drug? If yes, what dosage should be effective? Question 5: I tried to comb through the net to find anything about after how much time the symptoms of Trich should start disappearing when treated with drugs? (Non of the countless sites mention that at all). Thank you very much in advance for your help.
Avatar n tn I have been taking metronidazole for six days now and still have a discharge. I still have one more day of meds, but should the discharge be gone or does it take awhile to clear up? This discussion is related to Resistant trichomoniasis.
Avatar n tn I saw their infection dr. She did a few test on me and came back said I have trichomoniasis. She gave me metronidazole signal dose. I confronted my babys dad and he denied ever cheating on me, so I told him the proof I had then he admitted to cheating on me. Needless to say we no longer have sex except for ones but ill get to that. Anyway told him he needed to get treated for it as well. And he did.
Avatar f tn The standard treatment for trichomonas is a single dose of metronidazole (the most common trade name is Flagyl). It is only about 90% effective -- in other words, persistent infection occurs in one in 10 treated women. The recommended management in such cases is a longer course of either metronidazole (e.g. 500 mg 3 times daily for 5-7 days) or a few days treatment with tinidazole (Tindamax). In addition, your current partner needs to be treated, even if asymptomatic.
Avatar m tn To anyone who has ever had prostatitis due to trichomoniasis, does the drug metronidazole penetrate the prostate and clear the infection? I keep reading that the prostate gland is very difficult for antibiotics to penetrate. Does anyone know if metronidazole penetrates the prostate and gets rid of trichomoniasis?
Avatar f tn Last year in October I got Trichomoniasis from my ex. I took the antibiotic metronidazole to get rid of it. All my symptoms went away, the itching, green discharge, burning, all of it. Annoyingly enough now every time I get my period, I start itching really bad. No weird discharge or bumps just really itchy vagina. It happens every time, around the same time of the month. I have never had this problem before the trichomoniasiss. Has this happened to anyone else? Could the std have came back.
Avatar m tn Taking metronidazole is the right thing to do. Better to over treat than miss infection. You are correct, PAP smears are not particualrly reliable for dianosis of trichomoniasis.
Avatar f tn actually you should've had 8 pills to take - for a total of 2 grams of medication. give the clinic a call and ask them to please check the pdr and call you in the right dose if that is all you were given. remember no alcohol at all for a few days either!
Avatar f tn (Chlamydia, gonorrhea, herpies, syphylis 4 times tested with a negative result). Then I started reading up on internet about trichomoniasis and my symptoms were almost identical as to those described. Went to a doctor one more time and told him I wanted to be tested for this as well. He did a culture test which came back negative. I went to a different doctor and he did a wet mount which didn't show anything either but I was treated for trich anyways since I was showing symptoms.
Avatar f tn The characteristic symptom of trichomoniasis infection is a heavy, frothy, yellow-green, fishy-smelling discharge from the vagina. Trichomoniasis can usually be cured with prescription drugs, either metronidazole or tinidazole, given by mouth in a single dose. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.
Avatar f tn Retested with swab and positive for (NGU) given 100mg doxycycline orally twice daily for 7 days. Also treated with single dose of 2g of Metronidazole for possible missed trichomoniasis. 1 week later test results come back positive for chlamydia once again. Symptoms slowly subside with treatment of doxy. (No sexual contact other than masturbation) December 20th symptoms of tingle and discharge return. December 21 return to Doctor urine test and urethral swab test taken.
Avatar m tn They went ahead and gave me single-dose blasts of metronidazole (aka flagyl) for the possibility of trichomoniasis, and azithromycin for the possibility of chlamydia. Everything I've been advised and read says those should have cleared up the symptoms with 7 days. But it's now been 9 days, and the burning persists. What could this mean? Could I have not received a strong enough dose, and need more (I weigh 225 pounds)? Or could there be a non-STD cause for this? Uuggghhh . . .
Avatar n tn My wife tested positive for Trichomoniasis on a PAP Smear. Her dr wants to re test her in two weeks to see if it is a fale postive. We both have been faithful what are the chance this was a fales postive.
Avatar m tn Trichomoniasis can usually be cured with prescription drugs, either metronidazole or tinidazole, given by mouth in a single dose. The symptoms of trichomoniasis in infected men may disappear within a few weeks without treatment. However, an infected man, even a man who has never had symptoms or whose symptoms have stopped, can continue to infect or re-infect a female partner until he has been treated. Above is the treatment recommendation by the CDC. I would suggest following up with your Dr.
Avatar m tn I went to my primary care doc for a pap smear and she told me I had a strawberry cervix which indicated Trichomoniasis. She did not do a culture for trich, just diagnosed it based on me having a strawberry cervix. I did a course of 1 day of the antibiotic metronidazole. I have been in a monogamous relationship with my husband for 10 years. I've read a lot about it and I realize it could have been asymptomatic for a long time, but I'm wondering if she misdiagnosed me.
Avatar f tn Hi im 9 weeks pregnant and I was diagnosed with trichinosmas recently and I'm on metronidazole (flagyl) 500 mg for 7 days I take every 12 hours. I've read nothing but bad about it and it freaks me out so I stopped taking it after 2 doses, so I'm asking is this safe to take while in the first trimester and if not would taking only 2 pills be enough to harm my unborn fetus?
Avatar m tn t helping and the tests gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, HIV and others were all negative. I came back in and was tested Trichomoniasis gonorrhea, and chlamydia while being prescribed metronidazole and azithromycin as prophylactic. I am on day 3 of 7 of the new meds and again all the test came back negative but I still have dysuria. In addition this morning while urinating I had what looked like a little tiny clear sack of liquid come out of my penis with a drop or two of blood.
Avatar n tn I am so frustrated because I was raped in 2010 and I apparently I got trichomonias from the guy. My doctors gave me metronidazole for 7 days & it didn't go away. They also gave me tindamax and it still didn't go away. I haven't had sex or come in contact with anyone and yet this thing won't go away. I've been tested for all other STD's and they all came back negative. Could my body have a resistant strain?
Avatar f tn Hello, This could be due to bacterial vaginosis or trichomoniasis if you are sexually active. The characteristic symptom of trichomoniasis infection is a heavy, frothy, yellow-green, fishy-smelling discharge from the vagina. The infection can also cause discomfort during sex, vaginal itching, pain when passing urine and occasionally stomach pains. It is diagnosed by pelvic examination, swabs of the discharge and their culture sensitivity.
Avatar m tn I am not sure if they manually examined his prostate or not but after each sexual encounter with me his symptoms reappear. His original testing came up negative. As did mine. I was beginning to wonder if I may have ureaplasma urealyticum or something like that. If he touched me and then himself, couldn't that cause him to have symptoms even if we did use a condom? His symptoms both times were painful urination and clear dishcharge.
