As such he skips taking it most of the time with his glucose in the 300's and even when he does take it his glucose is in the high 200's. He is wondering if any other diabetics have had this problem with the metformin?

Avatar n tn The smallest dose of Metformin I know of is 500 mg tablet. In India you have 250 mg tablets? What type of Metformin are you taking - there 10 variations? Your doctor told you to take Glucosat with Metformin or you did this on your own? Have you Google'd each Glucosat [glukosat] ingredient for possible contraindications/interactions with Metformin? Bitter melon by itself is OK but has been known not to mix "nicely" with other medications. "What to do?
Avatar f tn You may be experiencing the side affects of the metformin. I recently had to stop taking the metformin and see an endocrinologist. Also metformin makes you gain weight, not lose it.
Avatar n tn I have taken Metformin 500 Mg x 2 times /day for nearly 3 years, but a year ago until now my feet are swollen, and I have bone spur on the left heel of my foot that is more growing bigger. This foot is in pain when I walk. Everyday when I take Metformin I usually have constipation and the top of my feet are swollen up. My fingers are so numb, and my urine is dark yellow and opaque.

"to top it all off my BG levels are still very high even with my diet." You cannot rely solely on drugs to lower your blood glucose levels. Fortunately, your health can be improved by making simple, consistent changes to your lifestyle - "diabetic diet", maintaining normal weight and daily physical exercise.

Avatar f tn Hey! I am in the same boat. I just finished my shots. They don't hurt (mine don't at least). They are pretty expensive if your insurance doesn't cover it. Many people with PCOS (I have it too) use metformin (I do) and have gotten preggo with just the metformin(I didn't). Try the metformin, and do the shots if you can. I have sore boobies and hot flashes on the meds and that is it. I got preggo with my first set of shots in January but miscarried in March. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn non fasting glucose was154 and AC1 was 6.5. He put me on metformin 250mg. Side-affects were severe headache, nausea, chest pain, stomach cramps, watery stools and insommia(34 hrs). Next he tried 1/2 pill evey other day and I have the same side affects only insommia is 20 hours and counting.
Avatar n tn Not everyone tolerates them equally. One side effect of Metformin is weakness. Also, taking Metformin in quarters is below the recommended dose and is so minimal, I highly doubt it has any affect on helping to lower your glucose [blood sugar] level. You should check with your doctor about other oral diabetes medications, that is, if you wish to continue treating your potential diabetes. "...I do not have any symptoms at all." Not everyone has diabetes symptoms.
Avatar n tn //pregnant-healthcare.blogspot.com/2006/04/metformin-use-during-first-trimester.html and my daughter has been diagnosed with diabetes couple of months ago and put on metformin since then, after reading the page above, it made me wondering should my daughter continues taking it. is what quoted in the blog true? 434242 tn?1204173382 I took metformin and it made me tired. It kept my sugar readings at this freaky weird level of 150 - constantly! I had to go off of it and on to something else - and eventually - I ended up on insulin shots cause I just didn't respond to oral meds that well. The regular Metformin gave me gastro problems and I didn't have any appetite and freaky blood sugar readings. and the Metformin ER made me so tired and no appetite and freaky blood sugar readings - Everyone is different!
Avatar f tn I have been a diabetic since 1995, I have always taken Metformin as as of Monday my Doctor has told me that I have Chronic Kidney Disease and told to stop taking the Metformin. So how and what is my next course of action? I read on the web that I could control it by losing some weight and changing my diet. Any thoughts?
