My son was diagnosed with the same when he was 4 and was on Metadate, clonidine and imprimine. It seemed to help some what but then all of a sudden he would have these fits and then be in tears in a matter of minutes. He is now 13 and last year they stated he was not ADHD but bipolar. Talk to her docotor about trying another med such as Stratera (non-stimulant) or Metadate CD another type of stimulant. I have a friend with a boy who takes Metadate CD. They tried Concerta and it did not work for the school at all. He was very restless and hyper. At home he was fine at the end of the day. So, the way this boy's body metabolized the med was different and the benefit of the med was late in the afternoon. Metadate CD works better for this boy during school hours.
Okay, so I know this is a gross question...but it something that I really want/need to know the answer to. I seem to be passing totally undigested Venlafaxine XR (Effexor XR) pills. I managed to inspect one of the pills afterward (disgusting, I know) and the outside was tough but it was still full of a white, powdery substance. Does this mean that I'm not digesting the medication at all? What should I do?
Adderall is not the only medication. You might you doctor to try a different medicine such as Ritalin or Metadate CD. These are still stimulants, but in another family of stimulants. Good luck.
d like to know EXACTLY how my 4-year-old boy with a heart of gold was put on the generic of this drug without SOME form of diagnostic process. The drug he is on is Metadate. (As a side-note, I asked her if she even knew what the name of the drug was. She didn't.) I suppose the legitimate question, here, is this... s not so much an issue of how long he has been on medication, but rather an issue of finding the best medication for him (i.e., the medication that proves to be clinically effective without untoward side effects). Stimulant medications (e.g., Concerta, Ritalin, Adderall, Metadate, etc.) all have the potential to suppress appetite. This in itself is not always a problem. It becomes a problem if it leads to persistent weight loss.
I believe that you can, but I am not an expert. I know that you can cut the pills for Ritalin and Metadate but not Concerta. You might ask the pharmacy for the literature that comes with the medicine. Sometimes it states in the paperwork if you can cut the pill. Depending on your pharmacist, he wil tell you if it is fine for you to split the pills. Also, your son should not show withdrawl. Even if your son shows withdrawl problems, these should be temporary and they are better than tics.
I have a friend who's son (no, really) was taking Vyvanse. He experienced severe dry mouth, hand-wringing, decrease affect, and a very short fuse. Hope you get this resolved; I'm sure you feel miserable. I believe that my friend's son began taking Metadate with more success. Still not sure of any contraindications with Xanax, though.

noticed that the capsule was only 1/2 filled w/ medication. I got her RX filled at Walmart this time instead of Walgreens because her Dad changed jobs & his insurance hasn't gone into effect yet. My 8 yr old son also takes Adderall XR, but only 15 mg. (for the past 2 yrs.) He was really skinny for a while back in first grade but my husband is tall & thin so we figured that was OK. My dr. said to give our son a milkshake at bedtime every night, and I can add protein if he seems to need it. As he has grown it affects him less than it did at first; he never has trouble sleeping and he has a good appetite at breakfast.
I suggest that the medicine is not the right medicine or it is not enough. I assume that he is taking Metadate CD (8 hour slow release) or something similar such Ritalin? If so, you need to ask the doctor that prescribed the med if you can increase it. You should increase by 5mg at a time until you see that it is enough and it is working. For example, after you talk to the doctor, you would increase the dosage by 5mg (you might have to divide the capsule) for about 4 or 5 days.
I have a 5 year old daughter who has recently been "kicked out" of pre-school for aggression. My husband & I have taken her to therapy and we are now trying medication (Concerta 36mg). I was placed on 112mcg of Synthroid at the time. I have been getting the generic brand of this medication for the last year. I broke out in a severe rash on my chest about 3 months ago. My regular doctor sent me to a dermatologist for the rash. They did a biopsy and have determined that I am allergic to my thyroid medication. What other options do I have if I cant take that medication? are there other forms that I can take?

On administration, the capsule results in detectable plasma levels within 2 hours and peak plasma levels between 10 and 14 hours. Half life is 5-8 hrs. So, it should take about 2-3days for complete elimination and the recovery of peripheral vasodilatation.
