Zoloft is an SSRI that is typically used in treating anxiety and Metadate is, actually, an extended-release version of methylphenidate, which is Ritalin. A primary concern that I have is that you do not seem comfortable with the psychiatrist treating him.

If I give him just the Zoloft, then he is fine, his anxiety is down and less violent, but climbs the walls and has to be given a benadryl to calm him down. If he is only given the Metadate then he is not as hyper, but very dangerous to be around when he "snaps". He was suppose to start Kindergarten this year, but because I don't feel he is safe to be around or even ready I have chosen to home school him instead.

He does ok on Metadate CD but he seems a little zombie like with no emotion and not very social when on Metadate. I believe that it is why the doctor suggested a different med. Thank you for your comment.

My son is 9 years old. He is diagnosed with ADHD, ODD, and Slight derision. He is taking 20mg adderal xr, 25mg Zoloft and .02 Clonidine to help him sleep. He has transferred to a new school and has had serious problems at school. He is swearing at the teachers and the principle. Has been in two fights, and has had 4 suspensions. Plus numerous in house suspensions. He has also thrown away his home work and hiding and or destroys it.

I hlave a question, does metadate cd show up on drug screenss and if so what could cause a false negative.? I gave my son his metadate at 6:30am, and at 11am they said he tested negative for it.

Did she get evaluated by a psycholigist or developmental doctor that specializes in ADHD? If she has ADHD, the first medication that you should try is Metadate CD or Ritalin. Start with a very small dosage such as 2.5mg or 5mg. If it does not work because it is not enough, keep on increasing the amount very slowly until you see that she is doing well. I am not familiar with celexa. If it is a stimulant like Ritalin, the dosage sounds too high.

One criterion of the disorder is that symptoms must be present in at least two settings, not in only one. In any event, what is needed is a sytematic approach to managing the behavior. It is not obvious that such an approach is being used. What does the school do by way of managing the behavior?

Will he continue to drop weight if he stays on this medication? How long is too long to stay on the medication? Can he be in it for long term? When he skipps his medication he's back to his old ways...he's hyper, anger, upset, etc so I fear the thought of taking it away but also am concern if taking it for too long could harm him? please help.....

Adderall is not the only medication. You might you doctor to try a different medicine such as Ritalin or Metadate CD. These are still stimulants, but in another family of stimulants. Good luck.

d like to know EXACTLY how my 4-year-old boy with a heart of gold was put on the generic of this drug without SOME form of diagnostic process. The drug he is on is Metadate. I have taken her to therapy and we are now trying medication (Concerta 36mg). Nothing seems to be working and the aggression is worsening. I love my baby girl and it is breaking my heart to see her so unhappy all the time. We are doing everything that is recommended in therapy (behavior charts, ect) and still no progress. She is a very friendly, outgoing & intelligent when she is behaving.

Meds do have to change as the child physically matures. Make sure his doctor knows what you have said is going on. Sometimes it does take a little trial and effort to find the correct dose. Good luck.

Her son had a great appetite last year (he was in my 2nd grade class) and our principal told me about a jr. high girl with ADD who could tolerate no meds except Metadate. Hi. My son is five and on Tenex for ADHD. I had some general questions about this as we've had mixed results. The one thing we notice is it helps his anger (temper) and impulse control a little. But the side effects of constipation, mood swings (I guess that's what they are...one day he's cheerful and the next day he's grumpy), sleep disturbance (hard time going to sleep...says he's afraid of the dark, being alone...night terrors) just don't seem to be worth it.

my daughter has adhd, a few months ago, she began taking things from me and lying. for instance, she hid my car keys while we were at schoolone day, I am a teacher and after 2 hours of searcing my husband finally had to come and get us. a few days later she did the same thing w/ my cell phone which was the proof about the phone. after much lying and days later she came a got my keys from where she hid them, this was after aabout a week. they were hid in a place i would have never found them.

Strattera is not a psychostimulant. Ritalin, Metadate Anderall are. Strattera is anothr type of medicine for ADD that doctors usually use when the stimulants do not work. Strattera rate of working is not as high as stimulants.

If he is formally diagnosed with ADD or ADHD, the first medication that the doctor tries is a stimulant such as Ritalin or Metadate (assuming no medical reasons to avoid the stimulant such as heart disease). Did your daughter try one of the stimulants? Stratera is not a stimulant. It usually is given to ADD children that tried the stimulant route, but the stimulant did not work. Tenex is not a stimulant either.
