Avatar m tn I was just prescribed meloxicam 15mg for arthritis along with prilosec for acid reflux. I was wondering if you could tell me if meloxicam would be better for pain relief compared to 800mg ibuprofen. Also does it take time for meloxicam to build up in my body for maximum benefit? If so, how long does it take? Thanks very much!
175688 tn?1297556647 prescribed Meloxicam. No, it doesn`t get you high but it does relieve the pain. It`s nearly impossible nowadays for a doctor to prescribe opiates such as Vicodin, and if they do prescribe it, they only prescribe a few, like 10-20. The Pharmaceutical companies are gradually switching over to these non-addictive drugs. I bet in 10 years, there will be no Vicodin, but I could be wrong. They are coming out now with pain medication that is non-addictive, even for severe pain.
Avatar n tn I have been on Meloxicam for about 4 months and have gained 20 pounds and i feel swollen. I am also on highblood pressure meds. I just quit taking the Meloxicam. Does anyone know if the weight goes away? How long does it take for bloated feeling to go away?
Avatar f tn Is your cholesterol very high? You can address this again with low carb / keto diet. If you are taking the meloxicam to address the side effects of this drug then it would probably be rational to discuss stopping both with your doctor. Thyroxine is for hypothyroid. It is very important to treat low thyroid adequately. If thyroid is not well treated it can make diabetes management harder and can also result in higher cholesterol levels. So, look at what each drug is for.
Avatar m tn Can you take meloxicam and later a couple of Advil? I was prescribed meloxicam for my arthritis and it does not always help me..
1305767 tn?1361192676 do not take over 15mg of meloxicam daily and do not take other nsaids with it at all....if you must take another pain med then take tylenol....this what my doctor told me....and eat something before you take it also....

Avatar n tn Try Ibuprofen 800mg. You can take three a day but no more because it could affect your kidneys. Tylenol is hard on the liver. Ask your doctor. The 800mg. Ibuprofen is an anti-inflamatory. It helps me a lot. I can't take Tylenol because of my liver problems, but you should get some good relief from Ibuprofen...
Avatar f tn However if one is allergic to aspirin, meloxicam may be used with caution. If it has been prescribed by your doctor you may take it; otherwise I would suggest avoiding it. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar m tn I have gained a considerable amount of weight will taking Meloxicam. Once I stop taking will the weight come off??
175688 tn?1297556647 Meloxicam is just an NSAID like Ibuprofen or Celebrex. It might help with some aches and pains. The Elavil might help with the depression aspect, but it would take several weeks to kick in. I wouldn't expect much help from either.
1044813 tn?1370494406 Sure, we can add Mobic/Meloxicam to the Pain Tracker for you. In the meantime, please use NSAIDs, since meloxicam is a type of NSAID and this is already available on the tracker.
Avatar f tn I have been dealing with joint paint, consistantly tired, very heavy bleeding during my menstrual cycle, and many other symptoms of hypothyroidism. My doctor currently put me on meloxicam for the "arthritis" (I am only 27 years old), and sent me for blood work. Both times, my thyroglobulin antibodies were high, and this past time they did a bloodtest for hypothyroidism and said that those levels were normal, even though my antibody level was still high.
Avatar m tn Since lupus can affect the internal organs, I would take her to see another rheumie until you find one that will try something other than or in addition to an NSAID like meloxicam. (I also take meloxicam, but in conjunction with three other meds for RA that go after the disease process itself, not just treating the symptoms like meloxicam alone). Blood work is only one of many diagnostic tools, not the yes-or-no definitive answer.
Business man2 I try to have my patients take very little daily ibuprofen/naproxen as they can lead to kidney disease (based on total lifetime dose), high blood pressure (meloxicam) and stomach ulcers. Also, the anti-platelet effect of aspirin (which is how it prevents heart attacks) is reduced when taken with daily ibuprofen/naproxen. I hope this helps!
Avatar m tn Enough that if you are on a low sodium diet you should talk to your doctor before taking this drug. Hope this helps.
1930941 tn?1400107522 I agree with everyone - what we eat is SO important. Especially as we get older. "You are what you eat" couldn't be more true as we age. Good luck to you!
Avatar m tn Anyway just be careful what you take. Your new doctor was absolutely right to take you off celebrex. Maybe you could ask about etoricoxib even though you have crohns and not colitis..good luck.
Avatar m tn Sorry just re-read your post and saw you have back pain. If you're in the sub program I'd really try to take them properly or like you said if you don't then it leads to other things. If this is the case then I'd just stop the subs. They're not working for you the way they should be from the sounds of it? I've never taken them, but what I've heard is they're to be taken for a short time along with counsling and the 12 step program.
Avatar n tn cant even attempt to do a straight leg raise. Finally seen a doctor who take new insurance. Gave me meloxicam claimed tendonitis. 2 months of nothing but meloxicam, rest, electric stim, pool workouts, and massage. I had minimal healing/recovery. I decided to try eccentric strength trainiing as it worked for my hamstring tendon. and its known for achiles tendon. Its been about 3-4 days and i already feel much much better. anyone else had similar issues/advice on this topic?
