Lumigan and eyelashes

Common Questions and Answers about Lumigan and eyelashes

lumigan

Avatar m tn Lumigan and latisse are the same chemical (bimatoprost). Latisse is suppose to be brushed into the lashes rather than put directly on the eye. All the medications in this group of glacoma medications stimulate eyelash growth: latanoprost (Xalatan brand name), Travatan-Z, Lumigan and Zioptan.
Avatar m tn regarding Lumigan and others like it, have people experienced growth of eyebrows and hair elsewhere as well like scalp hair? or is there good understanding of the active ingredients, that they can also help brows and scalp hair too? I am not only thinning fair eyelashes, but also fair hair and eyebrows and in my 40s with only slight graying. so has lumigan been studied long enough to know if fair skinned/hair people get similar darkening and lenghtening benefits?
Avatar f tn hi am a trich sufferer. can i use normal lumigan eyedrops on my eyebrows, scalp and eyelashes? i dont have access to latisse.or is there any other medication that grows hair fast? can i use folligen? what are the adverse effects of using lumigan on eyes and eyebrows?
Avatar f tn org The glaucoma drops Xalatan, Lumigan and Travitan Z grown eyelashes in about 70% of the people that use them. The FDA has just approved a formulation of lumigan called Latisse for use to grow eyelashes.
Avatar n tn I think i suffer from trichotillomania too... It's so reassuring to know that other people are just like me and this forum is so relatable. Since I can remember, I've been pulling out both my eyelashes and eyebrows and luckily for me, they have grown back each time (only to be pulled at again, unfortunately). I cannot identify a particular source of anxiety for this behaviour: I had a normal childhood and am doing well academically.
274009 tn?1224434467 You are on all four major glaucoma drops. There are no serious long term side effects to being on those meds. You must have pretty severe glaucoma. Yes I wwould get a third opinion. Find one at www.aao.org Yes Lumigan, Xalatan and Travatan make eyelashes grow thick and long. Lumigan is being marketed as "Lumilash" for cosmetic reasons for just this purpose.
Avatar n tn One of the drops in this family of glaucoma medicines (Lumigan) is sold in a different form (Latisse) by plastic surgeons and dermatologists for eye lash growth.
757137 tn?1347196453 t harm the eye or vision but side effects include redness and irritation on the eye and dark pigmentation around the edge of the lids. Plus the stuff is extremely expensive expect to pay about $120 per bottle. If you stop the meds they stop growning It works on most people, we've used it for years as lumigan for glaucoma. as with any medicine it doesn't work on everyone.
1775444 tn?1319258310 My eyelashes are short and sparse(want them to be really long, curly and strong). To make matters worse, they fall out, which drives me insane!!! I've big eyes but I 'd kill for beautiful, long, curly and attractive lashes that 'll make the guys crazy for me! I am 16. Do you think I can make my lashes grow long and beautiful?(I 'd hate "no" for an answer but please be honest!) If yes, how? HELP!!!
Avatar m tn also some people are born with an extra row of eyelashes this is called distachiasis , also some medications notably the glaucoma medicines latanoprost, lumigan and travitan-z causes eyelashs to grow exuberantly lastly small tumors on the eye or eyelid called dermoids can grown hairs. Trauma to the eyelid can cause lashes to grow the wrong way.
Avatar n tn Go to www.rxassist.org and log in and put your brand drug name to see if you can get Pharma help, even if you have insurance, in some cases. For example, if you have Medicare and your income/2 is below $29,140, Pfizer will provide the medication for free. The trick is you have to submit a hardship form along w/application. Call them at (800) 707-8990 and tell them you have Medicare and they will send the form with the application. You don't have to be in the coverage gap.
Avatar m tn Also beta blocker eye drops are not as strong, or as long lasting as lumigan and beta blockers do not work at night whereas lumigan does. If you had side effects on BB before you likely would again. So if lumigan once/day is working well why try something new that likely will not work as well.
Avatar m tn Heart arrhythmia including PVCs is not likely due to Lumigan or the two other medications in that family (Travatan-Z and latanoprost). They are not listed in the drug prescribing literature. I have several thousand patients on these medication and only have one patient in many years that complained of heart beat problems HOWEVER when we changed to a different type of medication (different class of glaucoma medications at present there are 4 classes) the problem stopped.
Avatar n tn However, last visit hemorrhage on optic nerve found and added Alpgagan P to Lumigan, did not do a thing after 6 weeks, pressure 24 today. Dr. Stated Alphagan P was the best he could do with MEDS, and it did not do a thing so wants to do SLT which he says may not work or can make pressure worse. So if SLT does not work are my only options more riskier surgeries! Visual field gave been perfect for last 8 years, do not know if this hemorrhage has caused defects as yet!
Avatar n tn t have a good look? I did a Humphrey visual field test and had an OCT. She also checked my angles and pressures and corneal thickness. Also, does an OCT check that the retina is OK as well as the optic nerve? Thank you!
Avatar n tn First the use of Lumigan. I really dislike Lumigan and try and never use it in my practice. It is notorious for causing red, irritated, inflammed eyes, permanent dark circles around the eyes and atrophy of the fat in the sockets causing sunk in looking eyes and droopy eye lids.
12845664 tn?1427483649 I am using Lumigan (bimatoprost) 0.01% nightly. Cost under my Medicare coverage is pretty high (deductible plus copay). Bimatoprost 0.03% is now available as a generic. What potential problems am I inviting by asking my ophthalmologist to switch prescriptions and start using the 0.03%?
Avatar n tn I remember I was first put on Travantan Z when my right eye was first diagnosed with glaucoma, and that kept my IOP down around 18. 6 months later I went to a glaucoma specialist and she switched me to Lumigan and the measured IOP after a month was only one point lower than the month previously. She indicated that was evidence Lumigan was better. I doubted that since I figured the IOP could probably vary more than 1 point day to day.
Avatar f tn t have eyelashes falling out and told me to see a dermatologist. My eyelashes are now really weak and are growing in different directions also. I'm scared that a lash enhancer product I tried is doing this. At the end of February I used a lash enhancer product by Silk Naturals but only used it for about 4 days. It's mostly natural stuff but could something had done something to my eyelashes and given me blepharitis as well???
Avatar n tn It is safe, effective, inexpensive. It makes the eyelashes longer which women (and some men) love. Side effects are very rare. Darkening around the eyelids, and atrophy of the fat within the socket are extremely rare (they are however very common with Lumigan a stronger, longer lasting medicine in the same family and it is brand name and expensive). Iris color change is only a consideration in iris that are hazel a mix of blue and brown.
Avatar n tn Azopt is a great medicine but sometimes expensive. Lumigan I really dislike because it causes red, inflammed, irritated eye, permanent dark circles around the eyelids and orbital fat atrophy with sunken in eyes and droopy lids way too often. Travatan-A is much better, longer acting, lowers IOP more and doesn't cause near the side effects of Lumigan.
Avatar f tn This has been going on for about 7 years and my eyelashes are shorter, thinner and growing the wrong direction now because my eyelids are so swollen.. I've gone to skin doctor's, eye doctors and they just say it is due to allergies or allopecia.... Most women want to have eyelashes, me included.... The only eyelashes that I ever pull out are a few that grow into my eye at the corner of my eye lids closesy to my nose.
Avatar m tn I want to follow through with my ophthalmologist and suggest I come off of both the Lumigan and Azopt and get a true baseline of my current un-medicated IOP. I have no idea if either of the 2 meds are still really doing anything after all these years. I'm really curious to see what the IOP is now since having the swollen lenses removed and replaced with IOLs. I might be pleasantly surprised to find I no longer need as much meds as before.
Avatar m tn My 11 year old daughter recently started puberty. Thre weeks ago (in the course of a week), she lost all of her eyelashes. And over the last couple weeks, she's been losing her eyelashes. She does not have any patchy losses of hair on her scalp or elsewhere on her body. A number of hairs over her forehead have recently shown some breakage. Whereas her hair is generally very long and straight, these hairs have broken off at about 2-3 inches in length and generally stick up.
Avatar n tn i also do this with the hairs n the middle of my scalp they hurt as well, and i always have the urge to pull them eyelashes and all. it hurts bad sometimes painful but it feels good at the same time. what might be causing me to pull??
Avatar m tn I thought he had pressure under control with Lumigan, and he even stopped that in the left eye months ago, then restarted after the visual field test showed deteriration.
1148619 tn?1332010984 Less shaving underarms and legs, and long, beautiful eyelashes too! I have a colleague who went through chemo for cancer a few years ago, and he lost all of his hair. It all came back when his chemo was over, but it came back more blonde and less gray, and wavy. He looks younger than before his cancer diagnosis (and his treatment worked)!
