Avatar f tn I have hyprothyroid and low vitamin D and I take levothyroxine 100mg, vitamin d 50,000 icu, and he still told me to continue the oscal and I have gained 30 pounds in the last 3yrs and my stomach is bloated one day and gone the next. I am always extremely tired, I have to force myself out of bed every morning. Is there anything my doctor maybe missing. My hands swell and look puffy sometimes, but I do not have high blood pressure.
Avatar f tn Hypercalcemia can also occur if you have excess thyroid hormone and Vitamin D can increase the symptom as more calcium get absorbed due to increased Vitamin D activation. So check your Free T3, Free T4 and TSH values. Anything close to high end of reference range (for TSH lower end) is abnormal. Also worth to rule out hyperparathyroidism by doing serum calcium and PTH together. In such cases taking Vitamin D aggravate the symptoms.
Avatar f tn I am also getting a sex hormone profile, vitamin and mineral screen done, too, to see why I am still tired and not getting a refreshing sleep every morning I wake up. The minerals being tested are: ferritin, magnesium and zinc. Ferritin I am aware was done very recently and was 12 (30-400) but I am with a different doctor and I think she re-ordered ferritin so as to wipe the slate clean and get a fresh set of results.
Avatar f tn When I had off the charts EBV numbers like you, I had to rest, take Vitamin Ester C (take a lot) Enada, or Nadh (found at health food store, expensive but worth it) and ddrink fluids. Check for food allergies and Vitamin D levels too. Good luck, you must feel so fatigued!
Avatar m tn has asked her to stop Levothyroxine and prescribed some supplements which she has been taking for last 2 weeks, Vitamin D3, Vitamin B and soluble form of Vitamin B1, benfotiamine. Two days ago my mother consulted Doctor A who had originally prescribed Levothyroxine and he did regular blood, urine work. Surprisingly he didn't recommend a Cholesterol, Urine test results were normal. Only abnormal value in blood work was C-reactive protein = 26.
Avatar n tn I have chronic pancreatitis with pseudocysts & calcification, I also have an enlarged pancreatic duct and history of bile duct sclerosis. I have systemic sclerosis and have chronic gastric ulcers (no H-pyloric) and food bezoars for 10 years. I am supposed to be on liquid diet (I am not) and have gastroparesis and have gained 40 pounds in past two years. I have hypothyroidism for 33 years and empty sella syndrome.
Avatar m tn My thyroid was removed in August 2020 and I stated using levothyroxine. In 2020 I took my Iodine, serum plasma test and it was 86 mcg/L with range 52-109. Last week I took it again and it was 57 mcg/L. A month ago i started taking Armour thyroid 90 mcg because 88 mcg of Synthroid would give me a very low free T3 and good free T4. My free T3 last week was 3.3 pg/mL with a range of 2-3-4.2 My free T4 was 1.0 ng/dL with a range of 0.8-1.8. Thank you!
Avatar f tn Avoid magnesium carbonate, sulfate, gluconate, and oxide. They are poorly absorbed (and the cheapest and most common forms found in supplements). Side effects from too much magnesium include diarrhea, which can be avoided if you switch to magnesium glycinate. Most minerals are best taken as a team with other minerals in a multi-mineral formula. Taking a hot bath with Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate) is a good way to absorb and get much needed magnesium.
Avatar f tn I have Hasimoto's disease and was given 50 mcg of Levothyroxine. My numbers did not improve and the dr increased the dosage to 75 mcg. Within a week and for 4 months I was an emotional, depressed, raging lunatic. I BEGGED to get a lower dosage and threatened to stop all together. Dr reluctantly lowered the dosage and I feel normal but tired, tired ALL the time. My next appt is coming up and know the dr will want to increase my dosage. Is there anything else I can take or do?
Avatar f tn I was hypothyroid (in his opinion from interferon), but I was also low in B12 and D. I started those vitamins and levothyroxine and within a week the neuropathy (burning) symptoms went away. He attributed it to the B12 as it takes weeks/months for levothyroxine to give any noticeable symptom relief. He likes b12 and d numbers at the very upper end of labs' reference ranges. Try a daily sublingal b12, 1000 mcg and definitely at least 2000 IU D daily. See if it helps the burning.
Avatar n tn In addition to that I was advised to take Adkal-D3 which consist of Calcium Carbonate-1500mg and Vitamin D3-400I.U. However I did see him again last week and he suggested a blood test to be done as follows:Vitamin B12/Folate profile,Full Blood count,TFT:on T4 replacement. Any thoughts?
Avatar n tn Improvement Using Vitamin C".
Avatar f tn What are your Free T4 and Free T3 levels? Have you had Vitamin B-12, Vitamin D and Ferritin tested? If you are deficient in any of those vitamins/minerals perhaps you aren't absorbing the thyroid med adequately or converting Free T4 to Free T3, which would keep your TSH higher than normal. This could leave you still hypo and affect your sleep. In addition, some people have a higher than normal TSH and still feel just fine as long as Free T4 and Free T3 are good for them.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with Hashimoto and hypothyroidism, my doctor prescribed me levothyroxine, which has helped immensely, but in the last 6 months, I have not been able to lose any more weight. I was 265 in 2020 and I have been at 196 for the last 6 months, diet and exercising and I have noticed some changes in mood and some energy, but the biggest thing has been my weight. I have recently added a t3 booster Dr.
Avatar m tn Hi. My question is, am I likely to have caused myself permanent damage by stupidly taking iodine supplements as well as levothyroxine for six weeks? I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid about six weeks ago and put on 25mcg levothyroxine daily. At the time, I suspected that the vegan diet I had been following for nearly a decade had probably caused the thyroid problem, as vegan diets can be notoriously low in iodine.
Avatar f tn Tsh = 5.974 (0.3. - 3.0) H Free t4 = 14.49 (11-18) Ferritin = 39 (10-291) Heamoglobin = 15 (14-17) Vitamin b12 = 401.0 (156-672) Am cortisol = 531 (119-618) Could all these episodes be caused because I'm taking Levo and have a possible adrenal insufficiency? I did a blood test 2days ago for TSH, T4, FT3 and ACTH test but I will not have any results in 2 weeks. Thanks.
Avatar f tn Anyone have any insight? And about 2 yrs ago, my doctor had prescribed levothyroxine, and after 20 days of taking it, I developed a red rash around my neck that went away 2 days after i stopped taking it. Anyone had that happpen? I'm asking because my insurance decided to drop coverage of the synthoid which costs $42, as opposed to the $9 of levo that is covered.
Avatar m tn HI. I have just last week had my thyroid removed, initial dosage of 100 mg levothyroxine. Taking this dosage for about a month, and then getting blood work and getting reassessed. I'm trying to get familiar with the do's and dont's of over the counter medicines that I can take. Am I able to also take a multi-vitamin....One a Day type ? Generally speaking of course.

Avatar f tn I used to have the ‘brain fog’ for years, even after I start taking the thyroid medication. I started with 75 mcg levothyroxine, then only 60 mg Armour now I take 75 mcg Synthroid AND 60 mg Armour. Only after I start taking both medications I stopped having the ‘brain fog’. Regarding the vitamins, now I take lots of vit C, all the Bs, especially B12 and the rest in low quantities. As far as the weight, well this is another story.
