493068 tn?1224765315 Hi there, It is not uncommon for women of your age to suffer from UTI. Most urinary tract infections occur in the lower urinary tract, which includes the bladder and urethra. The condition occurs when the normally clean lower urinary tract is infected by bacteria and becomes inflamed. Urinary tract infections are very common. Most of the time, symptoms of a urinary tract infection disappear within 24 - 48 hours after treatment begins.
565147 tn?1218252591 Hi, “infections of the urinary tract are the second most common type of infection in the body. Urinary tract infections (UTIs) account for about 8.3 million doctor visits each year.* Women are especially prone to UTIs for reasons that are not yet well understood. One woman in five develops a UTI during her lifetime. UTIs in men are not as common as in women but can be very serious when they do occur. Normally, urine is sterile.
Avatar n tn My doctor did an uranalysis and said that there were white blood cells and some bacteria in my urine so she put me on levaquin for 5 days. It seemed to get a lot better the first three days, but then stopped working and it just started to get worse again. Unfortunately, my doctor was out of town for a week, so I went to a walk in clinic the day after I finished my round of antibiotics.
Avatar n tn Is there a chance that the initial treatments for my girlfriend and I did not clear up the infection completely? Is Levaquin a treatment for these and would the extended course have cleared these up? I do not have the classic symptoms of either of these maladies but my urinary tract does not feel 100% right. Should I have a follow up STI screening? I appreciate any help you can give.
Avatar m tn Levaquin is used to treat bacterial infections of the skin, sinuses, kidneys, bladder, or prostate. Levaquin is also used to treat bacterial infections that cause bronchitis or pneumonia. Hope this is helpful. Sorry I'm tardy with my response.
Avatar n tn Levaquin might not be good for a cold, say. I was on it for two years for crazy infections bc I was unknowingly living in a home with mold. Yes it caused tendon swelling and pain but I’m glad to be alive without pneumonia MMRSA and MMR!
Avatar n tn Not sure that Dr Handsfield will answer but will try anyway as related to this thread. This thread says that levaquin is active against both chlamydia and gonorrhea. But the original post is from 2005. It's five years later and I'm wondering if your advice has changed. I understand that gono has grown resistant to this type of antibiotic treatment but was really wondering if levaquin will have any effect on gonorrhea. Now...in 2010.
Avatar m tn furthermore, within the world of STDs, cipro is not reliable therapy for gonorrhea or chlamydial infections and levofloxacin, a related antibiotic may not be curative for gonorrhea as well. I cannot make a diagnosis over the internet and would not try however, if you were my patient and still having problems, I would start again at the beginning and thoroughly re-evaluate you AFTER you had been off of antibiotics for at least 4-5 days.
Avatar f tn I hear your frustration! Determining the cause of recurrent urinary tract infections can be difficult and at times unrewarding, but it is always necessary to try. First of all is the obvious: urinary infections related to sexual intercourse. Usually these occur within a day or two of sexual activity. If this is your pattern, then taking a single dose of an antibiotic (Bactrim, Macrodantin, Trimethoprim) shortly after sex (the next morning is usually close enough).
Avatar m tn I had levaquin for three separate infections at the same time -- had no problems other than complete and utter exhaustion -- hope you all feel better Jeanne
867582 tn?1311627397 One of the antibiotics (the 3rd one) was Cipro (which I had actually requested because I had read that it was so good for urinary tract infections). I will say that Cipro was, indeed, effective at zapping my infection.
Avatar f tn Hi, I've been suffering from urinary tract infections for about the last two and a half years. It got to the point where I was having a huge flare up every two months. Every time I got a culture, the results would come back and they said that there was a small amount of bacteria in my urine, but the culture itself was negative. I just went to a new urologist, and he had me give a sample and take it to the lab in the same building as his office for a culture.
Avatar f tn I have taken Levaquin numerous times for bronchial and lung infections. The chief of staff at UAB, Birmingham, Alabama told me to always drink tons of water when taking Levaquin. I drink 32 oz. of water with every pill, and another 32 oz. during the day. Before this, I took Levaquin and had problems with my joints. I do not have a problem at all when I drink the water. Maybe this will help.
Avatar m tn Thank you for responding to my question. It has been 12 days since I had root canal on #14. Took Cipro for 7 days. I'm still feeling lpain/discomfort on #14 and try not to chew on that side of mouth. How long does it for root canal to heal? Can and do root canal fail? What are symptoms of failed root canal. At the time of root canal Endodonist put temporary filled on crown. I have appoint with regular dentist for permanent filling in a week.

Avatar f tn Yes, I had to take antibiotics for a urinary tract infection while on TX.
Avatar f tn I went back and they gave me Cipro for 10 days. That did not help. Then they gave me Levaquin for 7 days. I finished all of the antibiotics but I am still experiencing flank pain (upper abdominal, lower pelvic area, and upper and lower back). I also still have White Blood Cells in my urine. Even though I took all of these meds, can it be that I still have a UTI , kidney infection or kidney disease?
Avatar n tn Thanks for reviewing other threads before asking your question. You probably learned enough to predict my responses. As for the vaginal exposure, the condom protected you from any STD that could possibly explain your symptoms. And you undoubtedly already learned that oral sex is low risk for all STDs. Further, the vague and mild nature of your urethral symptoms -- "sensitivity" and frequent urination, without discharge -- are not very suspicious for STD.
Avatar n tn try urixin tblt one per day for urinary infection
Avatar f tn Your history is typical-- a women that has recurrent urinary tract infections, treated easily with antibiotics. She then gets a real bad infection, now has symptoms when the urine is not infected. The classic symptoms of IC are pain, frequency and urgency. The pain component could be felt as pain, pressure or discomfort. You describe a pressure sensation in the pelvis which is classic. Your cramping sensation and low back pain are also common complaints.
Avatar f tn It's common to get uti within the first trimester. I had one at 8 weeks, I'm not sure what antibiotics they put me on but I'm 31weeks now and my baby boy is perfectly healthy. Dr's won't put you on any medication that will harm your baby unless it would be more harmful for you not to take it. I have epilepsy as well and they took me off of the medication I was on and put me on something safer for the baby.
Avatar f tn I would recommend that a referral to a kidney specialist (nephrologist) or urinary surgeon (urologist) for an evaluation to determine if urologic abnormalities may be causing your infections. Kidney infection typically occurs when bacteria enter your urinary tract through the urethra and begin to multiply. However, bacteria from an infection elsewhere in your body also can spread through your bloodstream to your kidneys. Take care and do update us.
