Avatar m tn It sounds as if you may have TMJ.Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Syndrome is hard to diagnose and will cause excuriating pain. Here are just some of the symptoms... Pain in the facial muscles and jaw joints may radiate to the neck or shoulders. Joints may be overstretched. You may experience muscle spasms from TMJ syndrome. You may feel pain every time you talk, chew, or yawn. Pain usually appears in the joint itself, in front of the ear, but it may move elsewhere in the skull, face, or jaw.
451674 tn?1205658922 The problem I have is the first bite of food I put in my mouth causes SEVERE pain in joints of my jaw. This pain is excrutiating at first, I have to grab my jaws just to be able to handle the pain. It doesnt last long, maybe about 10 seconds. The dentist told me it was caused from my jaw being out of line, having so many missing back teeth. She said I could have surgery, where they would break my jaw and realign it. Whatever!! No one is breaking my jaw. I just live with it unfortunatly.
Avatar m tn I have had a nagging pain in the back of my mouth for almost 3 months now. The pain is located in the hard palate area above my molars on the right side. Dental X-rays have revealed that nothing is wrong. My wisdom teeth are still intact, but 3 dentists and 2 oral surgeons have assured me that they do not need to come out and would not be causing the pain. The pain is like a sharp pressure in that area of my mouth. Almost feels like a sinus infection in that palate/gum region.
Avatar m tn s gone on several months and I cannot get an answer as to why. I can hardly even eat because of the pain. My jaw is really weak as well. I'm not sure if this is from tmj or something else. I also have terrible headaches so maybe it is neurological?
Avatar m tn Hello, The primary symptom of TMJ syndrome is pain in the jaw and muscle spasms which can ultimately cause jaw clenching. The other symptoms that you are having are secondary symptoms. Some of the other conditions which are associated with such symptoms are sinus headaches and cluster headaches. Sinus headaches are caused by sinus congestion and inflammation (called sinusitis).
494996 tn?1209551293 the dentist cleaned the tooth out from decay and filled it. every since then i had pain in the join of my jaw and pain in the lower jaw and pain right over my eye. Avatar n tn My left side began to hurt but a very different pain more of an ache and my jaw clicks. My dentist referred my to a specialist who said it was TMJ. I have a bite guard etc and have had some teeth re shaped. Recently my bottom lip on my left side is numb, no pain just numb. Is this the TN, the TMJ or something else? (Need a new face!!
Avatar f tn Have the Sam e thing.Got a sinus infection that infected my eye and caused upper jaw pain. And some in my ear.
1679695 tn?1304716141 It could be TMJ Dysfunction. The TMJ is the joint that joins your lower jaw to your upper jaw. You can easily tell if this is the problem if the area in front of your ears is tender to the touch. This can actually be helped by seeing a chiropractor.
Avatar n tn Sinus tooth ache almost always involves upper posterior teeth. Please keep in mind that tooth ache is not always odontogenic. If your dentist can not identify structural pathology of dentoalveolar structure, seeing an orofacial pain specialist is advised.
Avatar f tn It could be a sinus infection, migraine, or even TMJ. My guess would be a sinus infection. TMJ might be the easiest to experiment with first under your conditions, and it wouldn't hurt anything. See if a chiro can adjust your jaw. I was amazed at how quickly my headache, neck and shoulder pain went away after one adjustment - less than 10 minutes. I am very serious. I only recommend chiros for musculo-skeletal isssues.
Avatar f tn Definitely could be an ear infection/sinus infection. However, I would ask if your jaw pops at all when you open it? It could be TMJ as well. I suffered with TMJ for a while before I found out what it was from a dentist.
Avatar f tn Hello fairly new here, my at a wits ends it may seem and it's driving me crazy thinking its a worse case scenario sort of thing.
1232362 tn?1333135406 I kept telling everyone it was my JAW. I had pain in my jaw and it would shoot up into my brain and then cause a serious migraine. All they wanted to do was put me on this awful medication that I hated and it did nothing to relieve pain in jaw and head. Finally I went on the internet and researched about Jaw and Migraines and found 2 Drs. in my area that treated that very problem. I called, made an appt. The Dr. was my hero.
Avatar f tn They jacked my jaw open past where it wanted to go and I am in constant pain and cannot eat anything that needs to be chewed. Swallowing becomes a problem sometimes where it feels like someone is sticking a knife in my ear and I cannot swallow at all. I just drool out like a baby. And then the pain is intense. I also have a heart condition that requires medication so I have to go to the ER or I can't take my heart meds.
Avatar f tn I would avoid any orthodontic/surgical work until you figure out a little more about whats going on. Sometimes TMJ pain will subside over tiime, but if you are in pain do seek treatment.
Avatar n tn ) This patient usually has no signs of any TMJ pain or problems. The physician or dentist may do a quick TMJ exam and find absolutely nothing wrong. This patient may not have ever had any signs of TMJ popping, clicking, or pain. There may never have been any signs of jaw or jaw joint problems. However, upon reading a proper transcranial x-ray there is undeniable proof that the joint is damaged and responsible for mediating the migraine problem.
618620 tn?1221279360 You could possibly have TMJ or sinus issues. I have had two sinus surgeries and I have TMJ.
1380526 tn?1292839385 I get those feelings as well and the seem to center on one side at a time and make my temple very sore and then it goes away after a few days. I realized I. Do have tmj and I clench my jaw while I sleep. So to add to all the other chiari symptoms yes this is one. The only thing that seemed to work is relaxing the jaw and heating pad. On back of neck and head. ...

Avatar n tn But I also have pain in my jaw at random times that is true TMJ pain. I also have a sinus infection, which makes my jaw hurt too! 3. The tooth doesn't hurt spontaneously, but it's so close to my jaw, I'm paranoid that I'm mistaking a dying nerve for TMJ. Would a dying nerve react positively to heat or ice on the outside of the face? I use a heat pack or ice pack on my jaw and that takes the pain away.
Avatar n tn I can still feel nodule and continue to have TMJ like symptoms - pain in jaw and across sinus area (like a bad sinus infection). How do I determine if what I have is painful thyroiditis? I am no more stressed than before other than wanting to strangle dr!
Avatar n tn Also, you might go to a dentist specializing in TMJ disorders or a maxillofacial specialist, because a problem with the jaw is strongly suspect with headache on the side with jaw pain. Do you clench or grind your teeth when you sleep? I'm a clencher myself and I have both joints with arthritis and joint disc dislocations, with one of them out of place even when I open my mouth (called without reduction, I believe).
293157 tn?1285873439 TMJ can cause severe jaw pain, running all along the whole side of your face, up above your eyebrow, your sinus', and ear pain. If it is TMJ you should hear a clicking/popping noise when you open your mouth up & down and side to side. Headaches too as Dawn mentioned. Your dentist should be able to do a quick exam, and with a few questions determine if you have TMJ. Good luck, Dentists are a necessary evil IMHO!
Avatar n tn See if a night guard or flat planed stabilization splint (or whatever) would be of benefit to you. I wear the latter for TMJ problems, jaw arthritis, and night clenching. It helps my headache situation considerably. I once was told with little tingly feelings on my head that that was muscle spasms (a neurologist told me).
