My husband has the same problem and a Type 2 diabetic. The skin on his legs and feet turn bright red and itch like crazy. None of the doctors seem to know what causes it and typical topical ointments; i.e., cortisone, calamine, Benadryl do nothing except make the areas burn more. Currently, when this happens, he is given an injection of Prednazone then a prescription capsule(s) for several days. We'd also like to find out why this is happening.
Most of these cases of itchy legs are due to ichthyosis,ie a dehydrated skin.Glycerine containing cremes help.
Have you ever been checked for type 2 diabetes. I am a type 2 and when my sugar levels get high I get exteremely itchy legs. I sometimes scratch them until they bleed. I also get twitchy legs. These conditions subside when my sugar levels drop - medication Metformin. Red wine is helpful as the alcohol lowers the sugar level.

Just my lower legs though--nowhere else. Sometimes it's painfully itchy--you guy know what I mean! I use a combo of benadryl ointment and oral benadryl, which of course puts me to sleep so I can't take it during the day.
When I was younger I would wake up in the middle of the night with such a strong urge to itch that I would sometime use a blade from a pair of scissors to relieve the itching, which often made my legs bleed. Even now, sometimes during the day if I'm out my legs can get so itchy I have to find a bathroom to itch my legs as the feeling is so insatiable. I don't use anything other than my fingernails to itch my legs anymore, but my legs are more itchy than ever.
I recently develop very serious generalized itching mostly on my back arms, legs and back, which cool down when I take Benadryl, also when I scratched hard the area becomes instantly raised in weird snake-like fashion and turns a little red. I also started seeing this strain of Buttons under my chin, ant. and post. neck and lower back. At first I thought it was just acne, but they never turn yellow, just flesh colored or a little red.
Lately my skin has been itching me, occasionally in my back, arms and legs but most importantly on both my breasts around the nipple area where it is incessant. Can you help?
I have very itchy skin on my legs and under my arms. I was given an allergy test when I was young and said that I had an allergy to the cold. I moved from a town with filtered well water to a town with city water that contains chemicals. Reguardless I cant stop itching. I do not have raised bumps or a rash and no indication of an infection what so ever. It gets so bad that I have to itch it wil a hard hair brush. Any suggestions?
Ive had on and off mild itchy skin for a while now. At first my doctor thought it might be lymphoma itch. However, my CT scan test results said "no significant hilar, axillary and mediastinal lymphadenopathy". So my doctors ruled lymphoma out. My GI doc says I might have IBS or a mild IBD but my diarrhea symptoms are controlled with immodium. The itch itself is mild, its mostly on legs and back. If theres an itch on my back so I scratch it then it will return somewhere else on my body.
Every so often my left arm gets all itchy. Left only and usually from the elbow down. Then it disappears and nothing for month. It gets worse at night and when I'm scratching it. I wake up because of the itch. I have used Benadryl cream and any cream under the sun that is suppose to stop itching. I have used Benadryl tablets. Nothing works. I take an icepack to bed with me and when the itch starts I wrap my ice pack around my arm. It helps, but it just numbs the arm.
About 3 months ago, my skin started to become extremely itchy. I changed everything from shampoos, soaps, lotions, to detergents. I also stopped taking in my bcp and vitamin B supplements believing those were the cause of my itch. To this day, I still have the itch. I itch all over the body, from legs, arms, upper body, back, and sometimes my head. I also noticed hives on my face.
Hi, This could be due to eczema, dermatitis, bacterial or fungal skin infection, diabetes, some medications, etc. Keep the area clean and wear clothes washed in a few drops of chlorhexidine preferably and dried in the sun. You could take oral antihistamine or antiallergic medications for the itching. Apply calamine lotion at the sites. Wear lose comfortable footwear. Maintain good personal hygiene. You could take over the counter medications for your heartburn.
Hello, Itchy skin on the arms and hands can be due to Eczema or contact dermatitis. Are you having a history of allergy?Pls get allergy tests like skin ***** tests or blood tests like RAST done to find out if you are allergic to something. You could consider such things as a staph or strep infection that frequently causes a rash or itchy skin as well. Or perhaps you have come in contact with a poison or have a bacterial or fungal infection. Other conditions cause itchy skin as well.
Hello, Itchy skin that isn't accompanied by other obvious skin changes, such as a rash, is most often caused by dry skin (xerosis). Dry skin results from hot or cold weather with low humidity levels, long-term use of air conditioning or central heating, and washing or bathing too much. Other conditions cause itchy skin as well.

I am 28 years old and I have started walking to lose some weight but every time that I go walking for more than 15 minutes or jogging for more than 5 I get this feeling in my legs that feels like I have a thousand bugs crawling up and down my legs. They start feeling really itchy. It is fairly uncomfortable and I was just wondering if you knew what this was or if there is something that I can do to stop this feeling. Should I see my doctor? Thank you.
