Is celexa generic for lexapro

Common Questions and Answers about Is celexa generic for lexapro

celexa

hey all i am on 20 mg of lexapro and was wondering if anyone knows if there is much difference between lex and celexa? my insurance only covers generic and lexapro doesnt come generic and I know celexa does. any input would be great!
I heard that lexapro also called cipralex (escitalopram) is well tolerated by BP. There is also celexa also called cipram and generic citalopram is manufactured by the same danish factory. Would you kindly decide which is more suitable. PS: I am taking tegretol 200mg as an MS. I was on the verge of going manic again as I returned to anafranil (tricyclic) for 4 days. I directly stopped yesterday. But I need a replacement.
Lexapro is pretty similar to Celexa -- it's the same core drug. They do feel different, but if Celexa isn't working, it's probably best to move to another med. Effexor isn't usually used if your main symptom is anxiety, since it is a stimulating antidepressant. Works for some anyway, but it would usually be used only if your anxiety was secondary to depression. Buspar has not done well in trials, and is only used these days much as an augmentation to certain ssris.
Lexapro is derived from Celexa and has the same positive effect at a lower dose without side effects. It is suppose to help even more with Anxiety. There should be no delay in its effect and no withdrawal effects from Celexa.
Like mentioned above there is no generic for Lexapro, but my doctor told me the closest generic to it would be Celexa. I tried it for awhile and it worked well for me, but I started to gain weight, so I went back to Lexapro.
I have found the generic Lexapro to be very good, and have only heard the usual side effects that all AD's have. But you should mention this to your doctor and see what he says. This all could be from your withdrawal or a combination of both, but you need to let your doctor know what is going on, if just for your peace of mind. Good luck in getting off the Vicodin, I wish you all the best.
BP pts take wellbutrin, celexa, lexapro in the majority of the cases. A few take seroxat/paxil to go with lamictal. But my experience if you have unipolar depression then it';s OK BUT for BP you eventually will end up in mania. I tried all sorts of antidep[ressants you just name it. The only one i haven't tried is St John's Wart (natural herbs) but it is said also that it can bring mania. BP pts take usually a mood stabilizer not an AD even if they have a bipolar depression.
I've been on and off (back on now) Lexapro for the past two years. Lexapro and Celexa are essentially the same drug. The company that produces both basically made a small (and insignificant) change to Celexa to create Lexapro so that they could hold on to their patent for a few mores years (there is no generic Lexapro currently). The Lexapro definitely helped a lot with my anxiety, panic, and depression.
i was also on Lexapro, but it became expensive so I am on Celexa which is a sister medication to Lexapro. Celexa has a generic called Citalopram. However, you might need to take a higher dose of Celexa if it is a good idea for you to switch. Talk to your doc to make sure.....Just my thoughts.
My Dr now wants me to try Celexa instead of clomipramine but I can't take it for at least 10 days as he says there maybe interactions with Celexa and clomipramine. So I am to taper off Clomiprmine and then start with celexa.I have been on Clomipramine for 19 yrs now but it does not seem effective. I have been on Clonazepam for the same amount of time. Now my question is what is Celexa and what are its benefits?
Not sure why your insurance company will not accept Lexapro. The cost difference between name brand Lexapro and name brand Celexa is nill.
I think celexa may be the generic form of lexapro.
My problem is that Celexa is not the generic for Lexapro and some doctors still refer to it as being the same med.
When my psychiatrist switched me from Lexapro to Celexa, she still tapered me slowly off the Lexapro and slowly switched me over to the Celexa. Which is what your psychiatrist should have done, assuming you have a psychiatrist and aren't using a PCP -- they're clueless about these meds (so are most psychiatrists, but you at least have a fighting chance).
is celexa better than lexapro or worse I mean generally speaking because this is patient dependent. But the IMPORTANT question: can one switch over from lexapro to celexa easily I mean directly or you wean off first by titrating down. But how, as I am taking the smallest dose already.! i.e. is there any difficulty, withdrawal symptoms etc.. and so forth. Remember both are the products of the same company.
I took the generic form of celexa for quite some time (over a year) and i gained about 50 pounds!!!! I'm the heaviest I've ever been and it's depressing. While on the meds, I went from eating mcd's for breakfast, lunch and dinner with a blizzard to eating less than 1100 calories per day (lots of fruits and veggies) with vitamins and daily gym routines (5d/w @ 30-45m at a time). I did this new life style for about 3 months and i GAINED weight!!!
Of course, I was taking other prescribed antidepressants at the same time. I no longer take it as I don't have insurance. I take the generic predecessor to Lexapro, citalopram, which also seems to be helping me. In my particular case I did not find it made me sleepy, but reactions to psychiatric medications are often very subjective. I recommend you give it at least six weeks to see how it works for you.
I am unable to take Lexapro and Celexa due to the "restless leg" syndrome. Unfortunately it was the only side effect I suffered from these meds. I put up with it for years until I realized it was coming from those medications. As soon as med was out of my system the syndrome ended.
When I go to the pharmacy to pick it up, the give me celexa and tell me that with my insurance company, lexapro has to have a pre-authorization, and that they wouldn't authorize the med until i tried to celexa 1st! So they called my doc and she said it was ok to give me the celexa. I asked the pharmacy how much would it be if I paid for it without the help of my insurance and they said $112 for a 30 day supply!!
I was on lexapro and I suffer from anxiety/panic disorder. I found that it did not help from me. When I first started medication Paxil Cr was perfect for me! I no longer had any anxiety! i took it for about a year and then got off it because one side effect was increased appetite and I gained like 20+ pounds. So I then went to Effexor, Lexapro, Remron, and I am now on Pristiq. SO far the prestiq has helped my depression.
Forest Pharmaceuticals took Celexa and removed one molecule from it so that they could create Lexapro and hold on to their patent for the drug citalopram (Lexapro is called escitalopram). Celexa has a generic. Lexapro does not, but all the non-drug company studies show that they are equally effective. However, because they drug company removed a molecule that had no effect of treating depression, Lexapro is supposed to be a "cleaner" medication - meaning less side effects.
( I was considering taking Lexapro or Celexa. I know that the are chemically related, but which one is better for GAD? Is one more stimulating than the other? I don't want to be on an SSRI that will give me anymore anxiety than I have right now :( I have been on Paxil and Zoloft before, but they made me feel like a zombie :( Any info would be greately appreciated!
Hello I have been taking 20mg of celexa for about 6 years for treatment of general anxiety and agrophobia. the only thing is that I had gained 80 pounds which is bad but is better then feeling anxious. I went to a psych about a year ago that gave me 30 pill of lexapro and said to just switch without tapering off, I am afraid to switch please let me know what to do? and if I should expect any sorts of side affects anxieties etc.. or should it go smooth? and how should I do it,just switch?
I went from Lexapro to Celexa (Citolopram, generic Celexa) with excellent results! We don't know what medication will work best for us until we take it. We all respond differently to these types of medications, and what works best for one, may not for another. Five years is a lot of time to get out of your medication, it may be that your body just built up a tolerance to it, compounded by the stress of your job. I wish you all the best and take care!
I was on celexa then lexapro and switched back to celexa. It's generic only now and cheaper co-pay. Good luck. did you get my post awhile back when I said that anxiety IS helped by A/d's. It was the last post so you might not have seen it, back when you were first asking about a/d's.
From my research online, Celexa seems to be the SSRI that reacts more heavily to alcohol consumption....or is that not true? 2. If Celexa is working well with me, should I talk to my doctor about switching to Lexapro or just stick with the Celexa? Thank you for your time.
Don't know the ordinary dosage of Celexa, but it sounds like your psychiatrist is dosing it as if it's Lexapro, which is it's newer cousin but uses a lower dose. And don't expect any med to make you anxiety free entirely -- one might, one might not. The only true way to get to anxiety free is through some change in your way of thinking -- easier said than done, of course.
I was on Prozac for 8 weeks prior but had bad nausea and dizziness so my Dr switched me to Celexa. The psyhc Dr has diagnosed me with general anxiety and stress anxiety depression. I'm beginning to think that the cure is worse than the disease. Anyone else have problems with tiredness/fatigue and Celexa? Thx for your input, Thom.
But I was on Wellbutrin, Zoloft, Cymbalta, Lexapro, and Prozac. I did the best on Lexapro and the worst on Cymbalta. I read up a little on Celexa and found that the MAX dose is usually 40 mg and yet your dr. STARTED you on that?. So, I'm thinkin you are very wise to cut them in half. It will take 2-4 weeks to actually begin working in your brain chemistry, but that differs for all of us...some notice sooner....some later....
