Index finger metacarpal fracture

Common Questions and Answers about Index finger metacarpal fracture

finger

Avatar m tn I am having pain in my Right index finger (knuckle) for almost two months now. I don't have any swelling, warmth, or redness around the site. Could it be related to the distal radius fracture surgery which I had one year back on my Left hand. Thanking you in advance for your highly valued advise.
Avatar n tn I got in a fight last night. One hitter quitter. The knuckle of my middle finger is pretty swollen right now. It wasn't that bad last night. Two hours after the fight, I was playing pool with minimal pain. Since I have no insurance, I'm wondering how long I can wait before having the more serious consequences of a fractured hand... my friend's mom says hours... but I'd guess a couple days??
Avatar m tn the doctor said it was pretty bad because the broken metacarpal was placed near my 4th metacarpal. well anw he was an orthopedic and put my finger in the right position and placed a cast. Then he did some xrays to make sure that the metacarpal was placed correctly and it did. now after watching the doctor in my town we saw that the neck of the 5th metacarpal has moved a bit downwards.
Avatar f tn What you are describing sounds concerning for a boxers fracture, which is a fracture of the metacarpal neck right near the knuckle...It is a very common injury from punching things, especially walls... I would strongly suggest getting an x-ray to evaluate for a fracture...Based on the history and symptoms you describe I would be suprised if you didn't have a fracture of the metacarpal neck.
Avatar n tn go back and speak with the doctor that treated you. While a csmetic deformity such a "losing your knuckle" is not uncommon after a fracture of the fifth metacarpal, if there is a functional deficit, you may benefit from a course of hand therapy.
Avatar m tn I punched a wall and broke my 5th metacarpal bone (Boxer's fracture). about 8 weeks ago. Had surgery 7 weeks ago with plate and screws to realign bone. Aside from the most nasty scar in the world, I have so much stiffness in my pinky finger at the knuckle and swelling in the entire finger. How long should the stiffness and swelling last? Will it be permanent? I started occupational therapy and they seem to think it will get better but it will take months not weeks.
Avatar m tn However there is a boxers fracture (fracture of the 5th metacarpal) seen. I would suggest consulting an orthopedician for appropriate management. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar m tn Keep the finger straight and strap it to the next good finger. You can do this by putting a plaster around the bad and good finger. Most finger problems are dealt with in this way to help to immobilise the finger to let it heal. You can take pain relief as directed on the packet if you hurting a lot. Your profile says that you are 114 years old - congratulations a very ripe old age!
Avatar m tn s gonna release me i had surgery on my left hand for dequervain;s release and for 5th metacarpal fracture this happen in 07 i still have pain , numbness and tingling the hand still swells it been 13 months and i still have problem i dont know what to do he want to put me on light duty how can i relieve this uncomfortable feeling
Avatar n tn I broke my fifth metacarpal (40 degree angulation) over 3 weeks ago and a week ago the spint was taken off and I was allowed to "use it but not overuse it." Well, I have not used it much, just to write and type, etc. And I have noticed that it is extremely hard to raise my pinky finger off the table, and once I get it off about a mm, I feel a sharp pain. Is there a way I can fix this pain, or some expercised that I can use to strengthen my finger? I also have terrible grip now.
Avatar m tn Hi! So back in October 2015, I broke my 5th metacarpal. I'll attach a link to the xray below. So after breaking it, I didn't bother telling my parents because I thought it was just a normal swelling (first time experiencing a boxer's fracture) and thus I ended up just putting some coldpacks on the broken finger for a while. I squeezed it quite hard hoping the swell would go down a bit? I think I closed the break instead.
Avatar f tn t been able to make a fist since it happened however i can move my hand around and used by thumb, index sand middle finger, still have a lump in the 5th metacarpal bone, tender to the touch. I have also been experiencing numbness and cold fingers in my left hand. And yesterday i had what i can only describe as a muscle spasm in my pinkie finger and pain radiating into my forearm. Can someone tell me is what could be wrong and is it to late to do anything?
Avatar m tn I have been diagonised with enchondroma in the ring finger of my right hand. The finger now has a fracture and it is being treated for the fracture. I wanted to find out how soon after the fracture has healed can I have the surgery to get the tumour removed and how long with the post operative care be?
Avatar m tn anyways, i got operated on 12 hours later. had 3 k-wires inserted in my right smal finger, got a hard cast and was released the other day. The surgeon called the fracture comminuted and just yesterday i was given a plastic cast and was asked to use the fingers every 1 hour or so. My question, how well will my right hand recover, will i have any defects or will pain remain when i light heavier objects? I am a very right handed person and am on computer for 8-9 hrs every day for living.
Avatar n tn Hi, Thanks for writing in. Boxer’s fracture is the fracture of the metacarpal bones in the hand which connect to the bones of the fingers as well as to the bones of the wrist. Usually it is the 4th and 5th metacarpal bones that are fractured. Symptoms of this condition are pain, sensation of loose bone, swelling and some amount of discomfort on making a fist. Usually with conservative measures like rest, analgesics and using a splint or cast are useful in treatment.
Avatar m tn Hello, After four weeks since my hand was put in gypsum, my doctor told me just now that I have a choice whether to make surgery to straighten my finger metacarpi or leave it as it is without any functional damage to it but with a bent weld. My question is whether to go with surgery or not, given that so much time had passed.
4173185 tn?1350594679 Ok, a couple days ago I got very upset and punched a dresser that is made of very heavy wood...the dresser won. My pinky, finger beside my pinky, and middle finger are all swollen, so swollen I can't wear my engagement ring. My knuckles are swollen and hurt very bad, and my metacarpal region is swollen. All of the swollen parts hurt very bad and are bruised, the bruising is black, that's never happened to me before is black bruising normal?
Avatar m tn I worked hard for a couple months doing some exercises I found online trying not to fail my classes and make money. I regained much of my mobility however my index finger (the finger with the knuckle I broke) won't bend down all the way its now been 6 months since the break. this has made hitting the bag and future self defense a bit more tricky when throwing a punch my index finger hits first and makes it bend causing extreme pain which would be impractical in a self defense scenario.
Avatar m tn Been diagnosed a distal radius fracture - but also have pain running down hand from pisiform to metacarpal 5 when cupping the hand. Any ideas? Just wondering if I need to go back to doctor. Thx!
Avatar n tn After about 3 weeks of gradually worsening pain I had an x-ray. It shows a fracture to the 5th metacarpal. I have an appt. with the orthopedic doc, but not till after the holidays... Yeeouch!
Avatar n tn On my left hand, my index finger is longer than my middle finger, my ring finger is shorter than my middle finger. On my left had, my middle finger is shorter than both other fingers (ring & middle). It's nver caused any problems but I've always wondered why my Mom & I had it.
Avatar m tn I was tucking in my shirt and heard a pop, and then felt sharp pain in my index finger. Looking at it I noticed the top knuckle is bent in the direction it should bend at about a 45 deg. angle, but it will not straighten. It stays bent at 45 deg. even if I try to straighten out my finger. There isn't a lot of pain. It was numb last night and is still not 100%. The only pain and swelling are actually on the middle knuckle. What should I do?
