635402 tn?1270162477 Hello Sam and welcome to MH. I have found some information that you might find helpful. It is a new medication in the treatment of migrains. On May 16, Glaxo-Smith-Kline Pharmaceuticals, the makers of Imitrex, announced that they were releasing a new drug for the treatment of migraines. The new drug is to be called TREXIMET and according to the makers, was to be a vast improvement over Imitrex.
Avatar m tn I assume you are taking the tablet version of Imitrex. Getting something into the system quickly is key. My wife uses Maxalt MLT and that seems to help but sometimes the environmental triggers are too overwhelming for the meds to help.
Avatar m tn I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.
Avatar f tn I don't have much of a question, but wanted to introduce myself. I've periodically had migraines throughout my life, but they were never very often. However, that changed since I've been diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia (as well as other chronic pain issues). Especially since the fibro was discovered (about 15 years ago), my migraines have increased in frequency. The week before last, I had 3 in that week alone.

1046692 tn?1255391835 Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.
1056589 tn?1273747102 If you suffer from some other types of medical conditions too, Imitrex should not be taken. Do not take Imitrex if you have underlying cardiovascular diseases, if you have uncontrolled hypertension, if you are taking MAO-A antidepressants or and do not take Imitrex if you have severe hepatic impairment.
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
Avatar n tn Oh, I dont have any Vikki, I am just doing my research of prep for when they do come. Now reading these posts, I think I will pass. My mother uses excedrine migraine but she does not get them as bad. Triptan's or Imitrex sound like the best solution if or when they hit.
Avatar f tn so there is no reason to become an addict or to crave the medication, but ones body will still become highly dependent on the medication to a point that if you take the body off the medication abruptly you can cause seizures and even death... Imitrex is NOT like that!! Imitrex does not cause any sort of high or euphoria so you cannot become addicted to it, you will not "crave" it when you are not in pain...
Avatar f tn I am pretty loyal to Imitrex. But always at max dose of 200mg. There is a new drug from makers of Imitrex called Trixamet. It is Imitrex plus an NSAID. I got a sample from my doc. I loved it. Trixamet is supposed to be covered by any insurance that takes Imitrex, but mine doesn't cover it. Maybe yours will. Hope I helped.
Avatar m tn Hi there, migraines can be controlled in the long run with medications such as Verapamil 240mg, Imitrex Injections or Pills, Oxygen for 5 minutes. I suffered from cluster headaches and have been in remission for 2 years now and I take one verapamil 240mg each morning for maintenance and it works great. I used oxygen and Imitrex when I had my cycle of headaches, and stay away from a lot of caffeine too, only limit it to small quantities, also see a neurologist every 6 months.
518798 tn?1295212279 Good Morning guys! I woke up with another migraine this morning. This is the 3rd one this month. I usually have about 2 in a year, but never this close together and this often. I have been taking 1 imitrex when I have a headache. My question is, "Is Imitrex habit-forming?" I have researched all the websites, but they also say that ultram isn't habit forming. I was just wanting some info from someone who has taken it.

Avatar f tn I used to get so many migraines and I was taking imitrex injections. When I moved the migraines got worse from stress and I started taking the imitrex daily, sometimes even multiple times a day. After about 3 months of this I started getting heart palpitations. They got so bad that I stopped taking my imitrex (cold turkey) on the whim that it was causing them. The palpitations started getting worse, but I had now talked myself into having a fear of imitrex (that it would kill me).

Avatar f tn I am having trouble determining whether my migraine medication, Imitrex, is one them. Sumitriptan and naproxen are not on the list, but since this drug narrows blood vessels, I wonder if it's best not to take it before surgery.
Avatar n tn I nee help. My mom is 45 and she has terrible headaches everyday. She takes Imitrex. She takes it everyday. She had bad headaches since 10 years ago, but now it's everyday that she has one. It's been like that for a month? What is wrong with her? I hope it's not some kind of tumor. Avatar n tn I have been put on everything from narcotics (which I refuse and hate) to Beta Blockers. (Which Do help) Currently on Propanol. But my very FIRST and ONLY time using Imitrex Oral Capsule. Avatar n tn I'm not a doctor, but every time I get a migraine, which I've been getting for 16 years, I've noticed that during the most severe migraines, I'm very nauseous and even thrown up...which made my migraine so bad, that I had to got o the hospital for pain meds. The only medicine that got rid of my migraine (and the nausea) was Imitrex. I've even gotten the imitrex shot. Have you tried Imitrex?

Avatar f tn Hello, Oh my goodness do I ever have hormone headaches. I even notice vauge head discomfort with ovulation some months. Imitrex tablets and the Imitrex injectable pen have completely helped me. I hardly ever need the pen and can usually get away with only half of an Imitrex tab. Hormone headaches are definitely for real, get yourself some pain relief and enjoy feeling better. Take care.
Avatar f tn After taking 100mg of Imitrex for my migraines, within 3 hours after I usually feel all of a sudden kind of "out of it". I am just really "slow" feeling and neutral in personality unlike usual. Is this typical? Why does it do this?
