Common Questions and Answers about Ibuprofen and kidney problems

ibuprofen

Avatar m tn Can Kidney pain be a side effect of taking Ibuprofen? I was taking ibuprofen last week consecutively for 3 days (400mg t.i.d) after laser eye surgery. A day or so after starting it I experienced mild pain/discomfort in my left flank that came in waves. When I stopped taking the ibuprofen the flank pain also stopped. The next day I took one more dose - the flank pain started again within an hour, but was gone the next day.
Avatar f tn gfr measures your kidney function.. low filtration rate is suggestive that your kidney has not been working very well.. creatinine is fairly reliable indicator of kidney function.. so the high value of your creatinine may be because of your kidney.

963889 tn?1359677334 My girlfriend had an open biopsy on her kidneys and it showed ibuprofen caused the damage. Her doctor in Florida did some research on Ibuprofen and then did a report for the AMA. Ibruprofen (advil and etc) is the number one cause of kidney failure of over the counter products in the Nation.
Avatar f tn Back when my pain was consistently on my left over the course of a year and a half I had three CT scans done. It was determined that I had kidney stones in my left kidney and that my pain was being caused when I was passing them, outside of that no abnormalities were found in my scans. I have seen two urologists since the discovery of these stones and was dismissed by both. They claimed my symptoms are not consistent with kidney stone pain.
Avatar m tn I have acid reflux disease and esophagus problems as well. Is it safe to take all this Ibuprofen with the stomach problems I have, or should I talk to my Dr. about possibly prescribing another medication? Would it be safer to go back to Meloxicam or try something like Celebrex? Thanks very much!
1386405 tn?1291587800 The biggest effect of Ibuprofen is in the last trimester. It affects the kidney/urine output of the fetus, which results in lower amniotic fluid levels. It can also thin your blood, which can increase the risk of heavy bleeding during delivery and after. Your OB will tell you the same thing. Everything will be ok, and now you know, and you won't take it again. Good luck with the pregnancy!
Avatar m tn I would not recommend taking all those medications, unless prescribed to you by your doctor. As well as possibly getting kidney and liver problems from too much medications, Ibuprofen can also cause internal bleeding and should be taken with or after food. Make an urgent appointment to see your doctor.
1326572 tn?1275500911 My liver and blood count look great but my doc said my kidney function is slightly off. The creatinine is high at 1.09 and the GFR is low at 54. I was occasionally taking ibuprofen but have stopped completely now. I'm also on mtx, folic acid, norco for pain and also xanax. The doc said she wasn't too worried but she wants to watch it. I'm wondering if anyone else has had the same sort of thing.
1654058 tn?1407159066 With low platelets from tx and a compromised liver and kidney system, any of the NSAIDs are contra-indicated for you (includes Motrin, Advil, Aleve). Tylenol is not to be taken indiscriminately either, though. With cirrhosis, no more than 2000 mg per day max (that means no more than 4 Extra Strength Tylenol in any 24 hour period).
Avatar f tn It is very frustrating how he needs certain anti biotics because of his severe sinus problems and cant take them due to severe kidney pain when he takes them. He is frustrated that the doctors cant really do anything, and they cant explain the constant kidney pain he has.
535822 tn?1443976780 First of all I have kidney stones ever present inside my kidney. They don't usually cause problems. About 3-4 weeks ago, I started having symptoms resembling a stomach bug (diarrhea) and fatigue for a couple of days, then started having flank pain. Went to urgen care and they gave me 3 days worth of cipro. She said I had a "few" white blood cells in my urine, but that was all. She also ordered a CT scan.
Avatar f tn No don’t take above recommended dose .
Avatar n tn May be wise to have your labs checked Creatinine and BUN and GFR for kidney function.
Avatar f tn 3-99.9 and Ive been using ibuprofen off and on for what was supposedly muscular back pain. I have gone to 97 a few times. That its my NORMAL resting temp. Both my child and I regularly rest around 97.3. The thermometer still showing her normal, and me at 99.3 so I know this is not the fault of the thermometer. I am tired of being sick. Doctor sending me for more bloodwork. UPDATE: Doctor came back "Bloodwork looks good, bacteria in bladder still" I finished my antibiotics.
Avatar n tn It has the potential for addiction because it affects neurotransmitters like seratonin and norepinepherine like other opiates. Tramadol usually has Tylenol or Ibuprofen in it an a adjunct pain reliever. What else have you tried for back pain? Tylenol and Ibuprofen are unfortunately overlooked. I would always try them first. They can be taken together safely. Ibuprofen is not recommended for long term use for people with kidney or stomach problems.
53833 tn?1234996629 Says everything goes a little dark, also mentioned black spots and she gets a bit dizzy - room spins, then she blinks and bobs her head and it goes away. Lasts total about 5 seconds. Anyone have any opinions? I'm a bit worried.
Avatar m tn Hi Ju! I also take a prescribed anti inflammatory, Voltarin, and I was told by both my Dr. And my pharmacy Not to take any type of NSAIDS, ie, Advil, or Ibuprofen, with my anti inflammatorys! Definately check with your Dr. And let them know that the Meloxicam isn't always helping! All the best!
Avatar f tn Can Ibuprofen cause dizziness, ear pain, stuffiness, and feelings of passing out if taken several times a week?
Avatar f tn Tylenol is perfectly safe and will not harm the liver in the recommended doses. It is overdose that cause problems, and they can be serious to the point of fulminate liver failure requiring transplant, or even becoming fatal. NSAIDs, on the other hand, are not good for long term use. My doctor has steered me away from them. The active narcotics in the pain reliever (hydrocodone, for Vicodin and Lortab) are not harmful to the liver as far as I know.
Avatar f tn Off and on for a year, but now daily, I have left flank pain that feels like you implanted a tennis ball in my back! I have no blood in my urine, no trouble urinating or bowel movement problems, but when this comes on, I can't even stand up. I take 2 Alieve, 4 200mg Ibuprofen, 3 antiacid pills, 2 Vit C every morning to cope with it. When that doesn't work, I take a hot shower and add a lidoderm patch and my heating pad. A few hours later, some relief.

Avatar f tn All these put together make me concerned about my kidneys and whether these could be secondary to kidney problems. Am in remote area and unable to access blood tests to test creatinine/BUN levels.
Avatar f tn My brother told me that his doctor said his kidney was not functioning as well as it should for someone his age. He also has a touch of scoliosis. Some of his organs are compresses because of the curvature. The doctor wants to do some test. What does this Mean? Is there something that can be done? I am really concerned. Thank you all.
