1153903 tn?1307740400 It helps cleanse the liver and helps to fight cirrhosis. The hypoglycemia also weakens the liver and the milk thistle combo will help. I would stop drinking for a couple of weeks and try the combo to see if anything improves. If it doesn't or gets worse go to the doctors and have it checked. It would probably be wise to also moderate your drinking even more since your liver is weak. You do not want problems later on, getting old is enough of a pain without adding to it. Best wishes.
Avatar n tn From my reading on the subject, in the later stages of cirrhosis, when the liver can no longer do its job, ammonia can build up in the brain which can cause mild cognitive impairment all the way up to complete disorientation. I'm just wondering if her hallucinations could be caused by the cirrhosis. If it is, there is a simple treatment. They would give her lactulose which would get rid of the ammonia in her brain.

Avatar f tn my husband has cirrhosis of the liver. He won't return to the doctor since being diagnosed over 2 years ago. He drinks 2 ltrs of wine a day. He has a terrible body odor of ammonia and the bathroom has a constant ammonia odor I find terribly offensive. I feel I need to clean it all the time. I think I started this post just to ask if he would excrete ammonia in his urine if his levels were high; it's beginning to appear to me that this is the case.
Avatar m tn Texas Liver Center in Houson, the Liver Institute at Methodist Dallas Medical Center in Dallas; and UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. The process can be a long one. It usually starts with finding a transplant hepatologist and making an appointment to be seen. The transplant hepatologist will review all of your husband's records, so have them sent ahead of time, and then examine him and meet with him. At that point, the transplant hepatologist will make recommendations.
