omega-3

518994 tn?1212242047 There are various vitamin-mineral supplements available that contain this or you could just add a little (~1/2 teaspoon) extra virgin olive oil to your dogs meals. Olive oil is a great source of Omega-3 Fatty acids. The omega-3's are the same for people and pets. If you give too much the result would be a bit of gas and/or loose stool.
Avatar f tn According to my vet this is supposed to help with inflammation and allergies. It supposedly helps raise good cholesterol.I certainly hope I'll get to see some results.I'm told it takes about 2 to 3 months to see any results.I guess I'll have to wait for his next blood tests to see.

Avatar f tn I have been reading a lot online about mast cell tumors, how to treat them, etc. I have decided to change my dogs diet to the Canine Cancer Diet... low carb, high fat, high protein, homecooked. I have already added fish oil supplement (human grade) I squeeze it out of the liquid capsule and the same for Vitamin E. First... I have read conflicting information about the types of Omegas some say you need 3 & 6, while others say not to Omega 6 because it can cause cancer to grow.
9214378 tn?1408881584 Egg yolks contain about three times the amount of omega-6 to omega-3, so I have always said if you are going to give eggs, give three egg whites to one egg yolk, so the balance becomes stable and beneficial. Egg whites have (obviously) far more omega-3, but they are also high in cholesterol, so feeding too much is not good for a dog's heart or cirulatory system. A much better source of omega-3 is salmon oil, as this has many beneficial properties and is easy to digest.
1645208 tn?1301072177 Yes, you can give fish oil caps. Salmon oil caps at Costco. Omega 3 caps daily. Canned sardines packed in oil. Actually, quite a few people are starting to add coconut oil with good results. This is a good link to read up on http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:U4NQT9evYhEJ:www.natural-dog-health-remedies.com/coconut-oil-benefits.html+coconut+oil+for+dogs&cd=12&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us&client=firefox-a&source=www.google.
Avatar n tn There is nothing wrong with an Omega-3 supplement for most dogs. But there are also some who are highly sensitive to anything fatty and can develop pancreatitis. My own advice? See how they go with the water. If you can't get water to stay down, or if symptoms persist, go to the vet a.s.a.p.
Avatar f tn i was wondering how much dosage i can give my 11 old shih tzu of omega3 fish oil
Avatar n tn I do both....I have a number of dog food cook books....I have 4 furkids so I usually make recipes like Turkey loafs or turkey patties that go along way...There favorite snack is homemade blueberry muffins. (Also from a cookbook). I make a batch and freeze them..Pull out a few at a time. I eat them, too. They are yummy! :) Made with honey and such with no salt or any of that...I add Icelandic Salmon oil to their food, as it is an omega 3...
Avatar f tn I take my prenatal pill one times a day. And It has everything I need But No omega 3 an I heard to take it 2nd or 3rd trimester. Just don't remember what was said.
Avatar n tn There are a couple of different options here. There is a no-pull harness that you can buy that will stop him from dragging you all over the place when you take him out. It goes around his chest and up under his underarms, and it feeds through d-rings on a belt that goes around him. This way, when he pulls, it causes the rig to pull up on his underarms, making it extremely uncomfortable for him to pull you. There is another option called the Gentle Leader halter.
Avatar f tn you know, I haven't been taking the Omega 3 since I got pregnant - they make me nauseous. I just take my prenatals daily. I try to eat healthy(doesn't always happen) but i do try. I didnt take any Omega 3 with my other kids and their fine, so oh well.
Avatar f tn s important to get the mix of omega-3 and omega-6 right, because too much omega-6 can be damaging to kidney disease. These fatty acids are in many food products, and while omega-3 is either absorbed or excreted (as it can't be stored in the canine body), omega-6 cannot be readily excreted, so it builds up. But the two fatty acids work together too, so if the balance is right, one will kepp control of the other. So, omega-3 is good at keeping control of omega-6.
1655526 tn?1330655629 ve read in this forum that others have also had adverse reactions to taking this supplement. So I wanted to put this poll out to see how omega 3 affects you. The first time I suspected krill oil, which is supposed to be the best omega 3, I used the process of elimination. Still not believing it I did it a second and third time. Now I don't dare take it even after my ablation for SVT because I don't want the other arrythmias.
612551 tn?1450022175 Hi Jerry. There are some benefits of flaxseed, as the oils are similar to fish oils but without the smell. However, there is a higher ratio of omega-6 to omega-3, which isn't too good. It's a complicated process, but effectively dogs find it hard to convert alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) to the more active non-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids, so although some omega-6 is okay (in fact, some say it's essential), it's the ratio between omega-3 and omega-6 that's important.
Avatar f tn And just get the OMEGA -3 fish oil, not the Omega -6 oil added, as there is usually omega -6 already in commercial dog foods, sometimes too much omega -6. And not enough or any Omega 3 to offset the omega 6. These are what are called "fatty acids".
2001997 tn?1333888744 This combo is probably OK... Omega-3 and b complex are frequently used in addition to normal multivitamins but I'd ask the doctor again and make sure you get a straight answer, or call a pharmacist just to be sure..
Avatar f tn I have a 3 year old chihuahua nd she sheds way to much. She's constantly shaking nd hair just falls nd flies everywhere. I feel bad Cus I wanna hold her but she leaves a lot of hair on ur clothes every time. It's a big inconvenience. Is there anything I can do to help her not shed as much?
612551 tn?1450022175 The vet assistant at my vet gives her dogs human fish oil that she and her husband also take. I don't think you have to worry too much about an overdose other than possibly it causing loose stools. She just tosses the capsule into the food dish and they love it! It was also recommended to me by the vet as an additional help with joint pain. Haven't started it yet but plan to soon.
688450 tn?1259468734 My sister was reading over the info on an box of her old prenatal vitamins CitraNatal DHA and it was stated that ingestion of more than 3 grams /(3,000 mgs) of omega-3 fatty acids per day has been shown to have potential antithrombotic effects, including an increased bleeding time and INR. Administration of omega-3 fatty acids should be avoided if on anticoagulants and in those known to have an inherited or acquired bleeding diathesis.
Avatar f tn It helps with shedding and its got good vitamins in it. That is worth a try. I know some people give there dogs canned pumpkin to and its supposed to be good for them. I hope this helps.
Avatar f tn The lab is vey active and i play frisbee with him daily. How much are you supposed to feed a grown large breed dog?The s/bc is overweight by 20lb. he wont excersize unless forced and its getting painful for him to use stairs. I give them each 2cp dry at 10am and 2cp dry plus 6oz wet at 530pm. Is this too much? The s/bc drinks tons of water when i wont feed him more. vet checked him out and he is just overweight. The lab is more active yet seems less hungry?!
Avatar f tn The omega-3 fatty acids should be in your prenatal.
Avatar f tn they suggested that i try different food, and make her treats with omega 3 or buy her some omega 3 for dogs and give it to her.
Avatar f tn 3 We have changed her food to K/D right away, but i still find her shivering from time to time. Her energy level seems ok, she still walks 3 times a day and plays with other dogs. I am so devastated right now and am trying to do anything I can. I am taking her to see a specialist on this coming Monday. She has given no med but the vet instructed us to giver her 100ml IV every other day.
Avatar m tn But there would be no harm in adding the Omega 3 oil to her food? Or adding it to a little mashed potato or sweet potato, mixing it in, and giving her bits of that as treats OK I know....a little messy...but maybe you could add this to her food?) It's also possible she will like the oil for its own flavour, and she might just lick it straight from a spoon?
