How long should chest congestion last

Common Questions and Answers about How long should chest congestion last

I came down with a bad case of bronchitis about a month ago and just got over the coughing last week. I was on doxycycIine which cleared it up pretty quickly. I still have congestion in my lungs every day since. I have returned to my daily exercise routine last week which consists of 45 - 60 mins on a treadmill. I can work out without any problems but my lungs feel like they usually do after a workout all day and then the congestion sets in again overnight. I don't have any SOB either.
start to drain and it was a bit watery with blood. then afterward just blood . Anyways my question was is how long does this ETD last ? What happen was over a wk ago i went ot friends house and she was remodling her kitchen and knocking down walls, counters, bricking , ect .
last night did nothing but have humidifier on our AC. how long will this postnasal drip last from that sinus infection? Should I see an allergist or ENT specialist? Thanks you! This discussion is related to Sinus ifection for 3 months.
I went to the ER this last weekend because of severe chest pain, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, and extreme fatigue upon ANY exertion beyond activities of daily living, i.e.; brushing teeth, showering, etc.. Someone finally did a chest x-ray and that revealed Cardiomegaly and Lung congestion. Both are mild at this point, and I emphasize AT THIS POINT. My blood pressure was 169/69! I can't imagine what would have transpired if I hadn't pressed to get my thyroid dose increased.
Two days later I woke up in the middle of the night with a deep whining-wheezing-gurgling sound in my chest. I tried to cough out congestion without success. Feels like an obstruction in the airway- felt like it was honking shut. Wheeze sounds like a bubbling, foaming, crackeling noise. Nextday saw the UrgentMed MD who prescribed Levaquin (500x7 days) and Albuterol inhailer (2 puffs every 4 hours.
After I eat, no matter what it is, I have to clear my chest of congestion and blow my nose for about 10 minutes. Why?
I found if I used it in the evening, then used the Neti Pot right after that I would get some great rest for at least a few hours. It's amazing how it clears you out! Also - check with your dr first (as always), but Sudafed and Tylenol are both approved for anytime during your pregnancy. I used Sudafed a lot with my first pregnancy and am already taking it with this one since it's now fall and the molds are coming out like crazy! Good luck!
I was recently diagnosed with Pelvic congestion Syndrome! does anyone else have this or know of some good resources of information on this. Since I have had several children, and have also have interstitial cysitits, along with Meduallary Sponge kidney disease, with multiple stones and infection, I spend a lot of time in research to find answers. I am also an IC support group leader and work with other Pelvic Pain organizations, yet find little to nothing about this condition even there.
As I said, I have always been pretty healthy, and my immune system can usually deal with something like this no problem. Any ideas on how long an illness like this should/can last? 4 weeks seems ludicrous to me! Anything else I can do other than rest, drink plenty of fluids, eat healthily, avoid smoking (all of which I am doing already), that can speed up my recovery? I am getting pretty fed up with feeling like this, and in all honesty, I am starting to worry there's something seriously wrong!
I can't recall any connection between quitting smoking and the congestion problem. I think the congestion problem started about 5+ years ago, long after I had quit smoking. In any case, I still like living and prefer suffering some congestion and other sleep problems to not being here - and finding I enjoy living more and more as the end approaches.... another experience I share to the younger who are not listening as they plan to live forever - not sure that would be a good thing either.
Except for the other symptoms I'd have thought I pulled a muscle wile lifting weights. I also had a slight feeling of chest congestion. After about a week I developed a minor cold but the other symptoms went away. Within a week, though, I was waking up with night racing again, anxiety, chest tightness. This lasted about three days. Then it subsided to the knot again. I have continued have minor symptoms for the last couple of months.
I haven't been able to pin down how long pain lasts as it seems to not really have a pattern. In general I'd say the pain is dull (3). I had one night where the pain was much sharper in my left breast and when I took deep breaths I could feel like my muscles/breast was grating over the spot that hurt. The spot was also tender to the touch. Today I had two instances during my work out where I took a deep breath and my heart "skipped-a-beat".
I was not on a decongestant/ cough suppressant. I have no idea how long it will take to heal these ribs. Am taking steroid now, short term dose, I think. Helps a lot. I just wanted to urge you to take something to suppress that cough before you damage your chest cartilage like I did. I had no idea that might happen.
), and am coming to the opinion it is a help in dealing with nasal congestion....and should have not affects on ones' heart rhythm. Unless, of course, if thinking about it causes anxiety :( A question: why saline (salt) solution, and not just plain water....same for the saline spray treatments. What does the salt add to the whole process? When one brews their own, how much salt? Is the a dangerous level due to too much salt?
Another symptom I've noticed is that my nose always feels congested all year round, could it be post nasal drip? Would a chest infection cause a low peak flow reading and how long does it take before it starts to improve. My doctor wants me to monitor my peak flow readings for two weeks after I have finished the antibiotics and then go for a spirometry test.
i have a question, i have been having a tightness in my chest for the last week and a half. What I have been feeling can be described as this: diffuculty breathing or just hard to catch my breathe ( especially when sitting up or standing, easier to breathe when lying down) When i first noticed this it was very very mild, but i it got worse after being around cigar smoke. I went to the doctor last wednesday, just to make sure i didn't have phemonia or nothing like that.
I have a vibrating, tremor-like feeling in my chest that can last for minutes but usually for hours. Sometimes at the same time I have the sensation that my heart is beating fast but when I check my pulse, it is normal. I sometimes feel palpatations at the same time but the vibration seems to be independent of heart rhythm. Initially it would occur about 30 minutes after laying down to go to sleep.
Over 2 years ago I had an echo done and it showed trivial regurgitation in the Mitral, Aortic, and Tricuspid valves and the EKG was fine. last June I had another EKG done for Severe chest pain/pressure (it was done a week later, my fault). The nurse called the next day and said it was normal, but during the follow-up, my doctor said I had LAE and poor R wave progression, nothing to worry about.
how long has it been since the ablation? It sounds like the ablation fixed your arrhythmia but now you have tingling. If the ablation is recent some people do comment on having some mild ache in the chest after the ablation but it's not debilitating. As for the tingling, it sounds like there's some irritation of a nerve. Did you get a catheter in the neck vein as well? I only had the 4 in the femoral veins. After my first ablation I did have some achy feelings in my one leg for a few months.
It doesn't seem out of control, it just freaks me out. Anyways, not I have chest congestion and mucus and I am so paranoid because I really think I have HIV. ( No fever, no muscle aches, stiff neck in the morning sometimes but I think its a nerve, and no rashes) . First question, (I am a heavy drinker and smoker) are these symptoms common and how well correlated are they to HIV. I have read up a lot on thrush and they say it is not a primary HIV symptom.
I think the infection may have spread into my chest. last night, I began to get this *graveling* feeling under my sternum. There was a *gurgling* feeling in my throat and it restricted for short periods of time. I don't cough much or even sneeze a lot. The last few days the pain in my chest seems to have become more *defined*. If you know what an infection feels like, that what I am feeling. But I am not sure, I'm not a doctor. I have a weekend to wait now to find the results.
I guess im wondering if these flu/virus like symptoms im experiencing in the last few days are potentially related to how i had been feeling? I've been sleeping 11-13 hrs a day in the last couple days and just totally blown out and sleepy all day, but it feels kind of distinct, like whatever was going on was its own thing, and then i got sick on top of it (because of it?).
I also have a little chest congestion that seems to make me cough in the evening hours. My teeth actually hurt worse than anything right now! I don't even want to eat and I can't have hot drinks because I also have rosacea. I am a mother of two toddlers and attend online classes for my school. I am so busy all the time and can't concentrate as well as I used to. I just took some Ibruprofen, about 800 mgs..does anyone know of any other solutions at this point?
) how long should I wait to take another one?
I can't find any mention of chest lumps and EBV, and most chest lumps seem to not be a good sign. Should I try to insist on a biopsy if the surgeon doesn't want to do one? Any other suggestions? Thanks.
I have a variety of things going on here. I'll try to keep it as simple as possible. About 4 weeks ago I began to have a dry, unproductive cough that resulted in a dry/sore throat, as well as a hoarse voice. About 3 days into it, the cough became VERY productive. After about 2 full weeks, the coughing become MUCH LESS FREQUENT, but still there. In fact, I STILL have a cough (not NEAR as bad as before....but I still do have to cough).
I am having a hard time stopping and I know I need to . I have taken this for a long time. First, I was prescribed this med and then I found other ways to get it. Knowbody knows I take it as much as I do. Anyone....have some advice?
And though he seems to have returned to his old self, how long this will last, remains to be seen. I did know if the cause was cancer, I would have put him down. And I know if it comes back, I will need to do that too. I will keep you posted on his progress.
They are also iridologists which he does see black marks for my heart and lung in my left eye and last year when the pain and discomfort in my chest were feeling a bit better, those marks got lighter. I had told my family doctor I didn't want to go on Lipator, I said I was trying some natural things and it did take my cholesterol down, so he said if it works keep doing it. So he is open to doing natural things, but isn't knowledgable in that area.
