Hormone production

Common Questions and Answers about Hormone production

hormone

Avatar f tn Spotting and milk production at this time may be attributed to hormone changes and usually resolves when the hormone levels return back to normal. However, if it persists, further evaluation may need to be done to rule out gynecological issues and implantation bleeding. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn I am under the impression that when you take thyroid hormones, your body cuts its own natural hormone production, because of the hormone feedback loop. If this is true, why does thyroid medication work? Is there a point, during which your body accepts the incoming hormones without lowering hormone production? Thanks!
Avatar f tn m wondering should I start drinking some tea I heard of that helps the production of it or doing things to insure I have enough. Do you think it's a good idea ?
Avatar m tn Because IGF1 levels are tied to growth hormone levels, lower levels of growth hormone in the bloodstream correlate to similar reductions in the production of IGF1. Growth hormone, IGF1 production peaks during childhood and adolescence and declines as we get older. We know that muscle cells get bigger and stronger because of the result of their capacity to continuously adapt to the stress of resistance training with weights.
Avatar n tn re referring to is probably prolactin, which induces milk production in pregnant women. In women who are not pregnant, the blood level of this hormone is usually low. An abnormal increase in prolactin in non-pregnant women can cause abnormal milk production, which may manifest as "nipple discharge". Prolactin doesn't usually have any relation to the occurrence of breast cancer.
Avatar m tn This has the unfortunate effect of a biased opinion whenever I try to get an honest answer. My question today graduates to pro hormone use, I hear from people it is always bad to take pro hormones as a younger athlete. As I understand it, when one injects testosterone (lets say Testosterone Enanthate) the body converts (with an enzyme) the excess testosterone into estrogen.
Avatar n tn t know of any data regarding melatonin interacting w/ thyroid hormone but any pill has the potential to interfere w/ absorption of thyroid hormone. Might be worth trying to separate these by an hour or so.
Avatar f tn When you begin taking thyroxine the areas in the brain that control thyroid hormone production sense the increase in T4 levels within the blood stream. This feedback system will then cause the thyroid glands natural production of thyroid hormones to slow down. Less natural T4 and T3 will then be produced and released and blood levels may remain stagnant or even decrease temporarily. Less free T3 hormone available to the body will slow down cellular metabolism.
Avatar f tn It's not caused by low testosterone. It can RESULT in low hormone production and low testicular growth. It's thought to be caused by venous malformation/malfunction, which can be just bad luck. If an adolescent has a variocele, it should be examined and treated, if necessary, by a doctor. Sometimes they just go away on their own, and/or don't cause any problems.

Avatar f tn Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) - These hormones control the production of sex hormones (estrogen and testosterone). Melanocyte-Stimulating Hormone (MSH) - MSH regulates the production of melanin, a dark pigment, through melanocytes in the skin. Increased melanin production produces pigmentation or tanning of the skin. Some conditions causing excessive production of melanocyte-stimulating hormone may lead to darkening of the skin.
Avatar n tn I was just pointing to the fact that Cortisol production, due to Cortisol being a catabolic hormone, happens to suppress the production of many other hormones (including Insuline). In the case of long-term or chronic stress, in the medical sense of the word, Cortisol levels are often found to be chronically heightened along with heightened blood glucose levels.
Avatar m tn Sometimes the med increase causes the TSH to drop and thus less production of natural thyroid hormone, which is both T4 and T3, Since the Thyronorm is only T4, I guess that you could speculate that the med change is affecting the level of Free T3 unless conversion is adequate to make up for the loss in natural T3 production. All this is part of the rationale for gradually increasing thyroid meds as necessary to relieve symptoms.
Avatar n tn Lymph nodes clear. After surgery had mammosite. Should I do hormone therapy? I also had ovarian cancer 2 yrs. ago. Stage 1A also. Doing well here. Took chemo for OV. and left me with aching legs and joints. The hormone therapy has so many side affects. The drugs suggested for me are Arimidex or Raloxifene. Is there anyone that does not take hormone therapy and is still doing well with no recurrance?
Avatar m tn I say that because serum thyroid levels are the sum of both natural thyroid hormone and thyroid med. As medication doses are increased the production of both TSH and natural thyroid hormone is diminished. Only when TSH is suppressed enough to no longer stimulate natural thyroid hormone production, will serum thyroid levels reflect further increases in thyroid medication.
Avatar f tn The best way to encourage your body is to relax. During labor, your body produces a hormone called oxytocin. That hormone is also produced when relaxing, having sex, laughing, hugging, spending time with people you care about and feeling loved. Getting babies things ready, a warm bath, a pedicure or massage, feeling love from your partner, family game night will all encourage the production of oxytocin. Trying every old wives tale in the book will only frustrate you and stress you out.
Avatar f tn Ferritin is the iron storage hormone and iron is also necessary for energy production and red blood cell production. Red blood cells carry oxygen to cells throughout the body and lack of oxygen causes tiredness and can cause lightheadedness... Vitamin B-12 also has a part in red blood cell production. Cortisol tests might also be advantageous because too much/too little cortisol can also cause exhaustion.
Avatar f tn If it is hyperthyroidism or in other words there is excessive production of thyroid hormone then anti thyroid medication are given to counteract the effect of thyroid hormone. If she has hypothyroidism ie low production of thyroid hormone, then thyroxine is given. The presence of thyroid disorder does explain some of the MRI findings like empty sella.

Avatar f tn The only thing that I, specifically, avoid is soy products. Soy, both, interferes with hormone production and the absorption of thyroid hormones. That's per my doctor, though he says the effect is minimal. I think you have to look at things in a practical manner.......The list of foods on the goitrogen list are all those of a good healthy diet and eliminating them takes away a lot of the nutrients and fiber you would get from them.
Avatar f tn The anti thyroglobulins are antibodies that are beleived to be made to stop the production of hormone because to much is be let out into the system.......thyroglobulin and iodine is what thyroid hormone is made out of. In my opinion I see antithyroglobulin antibodies at higher levels then the TPO when the patient has temporary thyroiditis usually brought on by pregnancy or illness that will cause the thyroid to have to increase its production, ie.......
Avatar f tn So, I had this many moons ago and it was a hormone imbalance. They checked me for a small, non cancerous tumor in the pituitary gland as that can create this situation of prolactemia. I didn't have it. So, we then looked at my hormones. I had a natural excessive production of estrogen. So, talk to your doctor about this as you likely have one of the above two scenarios. Let us know!
