Hormone level testing

Common Questions and Answers about Hormone level testing

hormone

Avatar n tn TSH alone not enough. Get more testing. If your doctor does not - find another doctor. You also need antibodies IMHO.
Avatar f tn You really need to have further blood testing for thyroid hormone levels, as these generally correlate with TSH levels. Free T3 and Free t4 are the thyroid hormones levels that need checking. T4 is commonly referred to as the 'storage' hormone that should be converted efficiently by the liver into T3, the 'consumable' hormone that every cell needs. The next blood test is for thyroid antibody testing to confirm or rule out Hashimotos disease.
Avatar m tn Tsh is a a measurement that the brain is sending to the thyroid to make more hormone, and then the hormone is replying back to it. For example, people with a normal hormone system may be around 2.0 whereas someone who just had their thryoid remove may get no relay signal back to the brain and it may measure 75, 100 or more. Used by itself, it just says that something is not working properly, more than likely your thryoid. But you cannot rely simply on this result.
865758 tn?1285952904 I first had my estradiol level ran randomly. The level at that time was 45, then they retested it on the 3rd day of my cycle and it came back at 42. My endo ran the estradiol and testosterone during ovulation because the estrogen level is suppose to rise during this time. This time it came back again at 42. Does this help?
Avatar f tn Your TSH level is at the lower level of normal; I'm sure your doctor is perfectly happy with it... however, I have to ask if that's all that was tested? Did your doctor not order Free T3 or Free T4 to go along with that? Free T3 and Free T4 are the actual thyroid hormones, while TSH is only a pituitary hormone and should not be used alone to diagnose or rule out a thyroid problem... Do you have any symptoms of a thyroid condition? If so, what are they?
Avatar f tn 04 and was perscribed 75 mico....of Synthroid. The next test showed the hormone level at 9.8 but they incresed the medicine to 88 micros. If it went fom being below the tolerance level to above the tolerance level why would the medication be increased?
Avatar f tn First, TSH is a pituitary hormone, not a thyroid hormone. TSH is supposed to accurately reflect levels of the actual, biologically active thyroid hormones, Free T3 and Free T4; however, TSH cannot be shown to correlate well with either Free T3 or Free T4, much less with symptoms, which are the most important. At best TSH is only an indicator, to be considered along with more important indicators, which are symptoms and Free T3 and Free T4 levels.
Avatar f tn I would approach a pituitary center and get more testing and have them order the MRI so you get a good one as well as more hormone testing and they can do the proper treatment after the scan. CT scans often (more often than not) do not show pituitary lesions. You need an MRI with and without contrast.
Avatar n tn I have the TSH level 17 and i am pregnant. Its 6 weeks now.I have done all other thyroid test as per the doctors recommendation and every thing was normal. As per doctor i am suppose to take a medicine Thyronorm everyday during this period. Does anyone have any idea on this . will ther be any problem with this in my pregnancy.. I am very much tensed.
Avatar f tn I went that night to start testing my hormone levels. I got a call today saying that I dont have to go for my other 2 blood tests, although I already had gone to another one, because my level is at 37,810 and progesterone looks great. I am 6 weeks 5 days along. My first apt wasnt until Jan 30 and now im going the 12th, next week! What do I make of this? Im further along than first thought or Im having multiples? Ahhh either way I am ecstatic! Seems like my pregnancy is growing strong.
Avatar m tn Is the TSH level the same as Free T4 level? I am almost positive that my doctor told me that was there was no point in running the Free T3 test because it wouldn't be accurate with my condition.. Does that make any kind of sense? Thank you for the help!
Avatar n tn TSH is a pituitary hormone, not a thyroid hormone and there are many things that can cause it to fluctuate, that have nothing to do with the thyroid or the autoimmune process. TSH can fluctuate by as much as 75% over the course of day, so any doctor trying to adjust thyroid medication by chasing the perfect TSH is probably going to keep her/his patients very ill, as that's like trying to shoot a moving target.
Avatar n tn I am not sure about whether or not the cause of the miscarriages were due to the Depo-Provera but I did furthur research and wanted to share some info with those individuals that don't know. Depo-Provera is a synthetic hormone. I was very young when I took it and didn't get all of the details (ignorance). If I would have known that fact alone, I wouldn't have taken it. If you have a low Progestrone Level it will more than likely cause you to have a miscarriage. Now.....
Avatar m tn My wife having TSH level is 6.9 and iodine level 30 which is in border. Remaining all looks fine. Just want to understand, what will be complication to become pregnant or if my wife get pregnant at this stage? Do we need to treat before pregnancy ?
Avatar f tn It is a good idea to always test for Free T3 and Free T4 (not Total T3 and Total T4), whenever you go in for testing. Free T3 is the most important thyroid hormone, since it largely regulates metabolism and many other body functions. Scientific studies have also shown that it correlated best with hypo symptoms, while Free T4 and TSH did not correlate.
Avatar f tn But TSH is a Pituitary hormone, not a thyroid hormone, the pituitary senses the amount of thyroid hormone in the system, then sends a hormone(Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) to the thyroid when the hormone level is low, The thyroid produces the hormone T4, then the body converts it to T3, this is the hormone the body needs to function, they are known as Free T4 and Free T3, these two are tests that should be taken to determine thyroid balance.
Avatar n tn What does it mean to have a calcium level of 10.6? I was told that it was high and should stop all calcium supplements.
Avatar n tn i got my thyroid testing done 3 months ago and it showed my TSH level to be 65.83 mIU/ml !my doctor prescribed me tab eltroxin 100!now after 3 months when i again got a blood test done it showed TSH level to be 0.51 uIU/ml!still i am having 100 power tablets of thyrox! i would like to know if it is possible to get back your TSH level from so high to normal within 3 months?or are any of my reports wrong?should i continue with my 100 power meicine?
Avatar f tn On Sept. 10th, my TSH level was 485. After taking Synthroid for 4 weeks, it increased to 497. Just got home from the Endocrinologist, and he put me on not only synthetic T4, but also T3. Hope this helps. I feel bad, depression, fatique, hard time swallowing, bad skin problems.... Has anyone heard of a TSH level being this high?? Am worried.
Avatar f tn In my opinion, hormone testing daily with saliva will not be helpful. If your periods are regular, then you are ovulating. Additional hormone testing will not be helpful. If you are ovulating regularly, hopefully things might work out on there own. If not, your best chances if clomid has not worked out are to comtemplate either injection fertility medications with insemination, or IVF. I think IVF is most likely to succeed. Good luck.
255738 tn?1230233362 Your TSH isn't all that low and if you don't have symptoms of being over medicated it's probably nothing to worry about. My biggest question is whether TSH is the only thing they're testing or if they tested Free T4 and Free T3, as well, since those are the actual thyroid hormones. TSH is a pituitary hormone that doesn't necessarily correlate with actual thyroid hormones. It should never be used as the sole basis for diagnosing a thyroid condition or dosing medication.
Avatar f tn Can you tell how far along you are with the hormone level from the beta test? I got my results today and my level was 57,972. The nurse said I'm probably around 5 weeks but going off of my lmp I should be 9.6 weeks. I really can't go off of my lmp because with my son, I had gotten pregnant right before my period so I didn't know how far along I was until my ultrasound.
Avatar f tn Has your doctor run any tests other than TSH? Free T3 and Free T4? Those are the active thyroid hormones and should always be tested along with TSH, which is a pituitary hormone, can swing widely and is not indicative of actual thyroid function. It's possible that your pituitary only *thinks* there's not enough hormone, so it's asking for more; however, without testing FT3 and FT4, you can't know what's going on.
