Common Questions and Answers about High protein diet diabetes

diabetes

Avatar n tn Dear winkster, Actually a diabetic diet is really only what a healthy diet would be for people without diabetes. And fruits are a part of that even though they have sugar it get metabolized like any other carbohydrates.
Avatar n tn I suffer from high "protein in urine" or high creatinine levels, now it's 2.4, but it was higher. I reccommend you read Dr. Walser's book on a low-protein, low-phoshorus diet to avoid dialysis. Your kidney doctor will probably tell you to go on a low-protein diet, but won't give you specifics. Dr. Walser's book explains the diet. It's rather hard diet to stick with, but beats the alternative.
Tbd 2. Very low fat, adequate protein, high carb. This is the plant based and even vegan diet that some are promoting. This diet does not have processed foods. The diet that absolutely does not work is a diet that is high in both carbs and fats. For me, considering that diabetes is an inability of the body to properly process glucose I choose low carb / ketogenic diet. This diet is fairly easy to follow. No grains, no sugars, no starchy vegetables.
Avatar f tn High sugar can be dangerous for baby and make baby grow big. So it's important to keep it under control. I have it also. I eat balanced meals low carb high protein and I take 2.5mg of glyburide at night and my sugar is under control. Diet is really important. Some people have to take insulin.
Avatar m tn My sugar levels is high and not coming down. I am eating the right diet and exercising as well but my blood glucose levels is not reducing.
Avatar f tn This tracker will be very beneficial for those users who have dietary restrictions due to medical conditions such as diabetes and high cholesterol, and will also be useful for those who are simply trying to watch what they eat. In addition to providing a calorie counter, the Food Diary will also allow users to track their intake of carbohydrates, fats, protein, sugar, vitamins, minerals, and supplements.

Avatar f tn weigh 126..no history of diabetes in my family. Doctor suggesedt diet and exercise which I am doing..in the morning before breakfast blood sugars running 120 to 130? Is that totally not normal?
Avatar f tn by Dr Charles Clark, who is an authority on glaucoma and diabetes, and devised this diet to help prevent diabetes. - I wonder if anybody else has tried this diet. Thanks again for taking time to reply to me.
Avatar n tn Ketones and proteins in the urine can result from many factors, like excessive exercise, dehydration, high protein diet, kidney problems, and diabetes. Diabetes in the initial stages does not produce glucose in urine. However neither will it bring about ketones and proteins in the urine at an early stage. These are generally the signs of uncontrolled diabetes. You need to check the blood sugar fasting (8-12 hours) and two hours after a proper meal.
Avatar n tn We measure our insulin on the basis of how many carbohydrates a food contains and the less the better - making a high protein diet very desirable from that perspective. If you lower your need to inject insulin, and keep on an even keel that way, and test about 7 times a day, and get up 3 times a night for a day or two to test, then you will be able to isolate your problem with the sugars.
Avatar f tn She is morbidly obese and has type 2 diabetes and extremely uncontrolled high blood pressure, and a severe panic disorder. She started a low carb/high protein diet when she was diagnosed. She has lowered the amount of insulin she needs from 160 units a day to 60 units which is great. But since this diet her high blood pressure has sky rocketed. We were in the ER twice last week with blood pressures greater than 200. I think the highest was 227/115.

Avatar n tn I have recently started to feed my (16 year-old) cat a high protein diet (Orijen), devoid of all carbs, hoping to stay away from diabetes that way. Now the vet tells me that's a bad idea because a high protein level in food (anything over 40%) leads to the production of urea and actually harms the cat's kidneys. I am very confused. My cat is healthy, but which is the right food composition to keep it that way?
Avatar m tn With regards to Cholesterol, there are divided camps on this. Many people are beginning to question why their disease is still increasing even though they've dramatically lowered their lipid levels. There are certainly a large number of people with national average cholesterol levels, or even lower who have heart disease. There is a lot of research ongoing to try and understand what exactly is going on with lipids and heart disease.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately there is no perfect diet and there no perfect diet for diabetes. But avoiding simple carbs is good for everyone. A BG meter is a good tool to use. Check out everything. Even beans. Yes some people have a very large and long lasting spike on beans, even though books suggest it as a good choice. Supplements can help some people. If you want to go in that direction consider things like chromium, they help some people control BG.
2186195 tn?1339430622 I would just monitor your blood to make sure it doesn't go to high but doesn't seem like you need to stick to a diet or you will not feel well With the sugar level going down. I tested 5 over on 1 hr test so dr are just watching size of baby and told me just to add more veggies to my diet snd eliminate one carb serving a day and drink lots of water.
Avatar f tn Your key here is to eat lots of green veggies and lots of protein, protein cancels out most carbs so stick to high protein low carbs little to no sugar and you will be good. Also take short walks after eating and drink lots of water.

Avatar n tn t say what you mean by a low carb diet. I assume you mean a high protein diet, but those diets have very little clinical evidence behind them -- for most of history the only people who ate a high protein diet were those who settled in places where plant food didn't grow. They got used to it but didn't live very long, either. When they were conquered, though, and fed a lot of grains, many got diabetes.

973741 tn?1342342773 However, the latest approach is to take a much more aggressive approach to diet. NOT low fat, high carb any more, but instead low carb, moderate protein and enough fat for energy. This is the approach endorsed by Dr. Richard Berstein (Book: diabetes solutions, and U-tube lecture series "Bernstein Diabetes University") and also many who follow ketogenic or low carb way of eating.
