heartburn symptoms medication

Does anybody know if you can take any heartburn medication, besides tums, while pregnant. I think what I'm thinking of is called prilosec or something.

Hi! I was diagnosed with GERD about a month ago as evidenced by an Upper GI. I have never had any symptoms of GERD, such as hearburn, etc. My doctor said there is no need to put me on medication because there are no symptoms to treat for me and prolonged use of PPI's may have consequences. She said just to take 2 Tums before bed time since the acid can erode my esophagus and rises more when you are lying down. I am nervous that it is going to do damage?

If you have had poorly controlled symptoms blamed on GERD for years why is the family doc calling the shots rather than a gastroenterologist? Time to hire a specialist.

I'm 19 weeks and 5 days pregnant, and I'm having some Hella bad migraines. I also have terrible sinuses, heartburn and I've been physically sick alot, with a fever and what not. I'm allergic to acetmenaphin(tylenol) which is supposedly the only thing I can take while pregnant. My doctor refuses to write me prescriptions for anything else and tells me to deal with it and there's nothing else like aspirin that I can take. She's very rude.

Famotidine has been effective in preventing recurrence of ulcers when given in low doses for prolonged periods of time. Famotidine also is used for treating heartburn and in healing ulceration and inflammation of the esophagus (esophagitis) resulting from acid (gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD). High doses are used for treating conditions in which there are marked increases in acid secretion such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

I have both Lyme and Bartonella (Babesia, too), and the article by Virginia Sherr, a Lyme aware GI doc, explained my abdominal symptoms very well. She calls it "Bell's Palsy of the gut." When Lyme causes partial paralysis of the digestive system, all kinds of problems appear. The stomach can't control the amount of acid it produces, so you can alternate between too much (burning) and too little (poor digestion, cramping).

The increased anxiety can cause more stomach acid and therefore your symptoms. I confess I take omeprazole for the heartburn. The burping went away with the anxiety. My stomach burned so bad I thought I had an ulcer. You can get prevacid or prilosec over the counter. Either one should help. Good luck and excuse yourself!

A very common cause of this type of symptoms is acid reflux (yes, even without classic heartburn symptoms).

Is it safe to take Prevacid 24 hr. for heartburn if you are on a beta blocker, Atenolol? I am asking for my daughter who is 28 yrs. old.

ve been taking an anti heartburn medication and it seems to have helped a bit but the heartburn more often than not comes back. Is this something I should look in to? Could it be signs of something bigger?

After doing that for about a week, I started having symptoms of heartburn - usually upon awakening and during the morning hours; it usually subsides by noon. When I eat during this time, I often feel the food going down the esophagus with some discomfort at times. My question is this - could this be a symptom of hypothyroidism/hyperthyroidism or related in any way to me taking half the dosage of levothyroxine? How should I proceed?

hiya heartburn can affect you in different ways so it may just be that and maybe over the counter remedies are not working because it is too strong go to your doctor who can maybe give you some stronger medication to help with the symptoms your having. good luck hope you get it all sorted.

I have severe anxiety issues.. and it does say that the medication (buspar) im on can cause heartburn but it burns on the right side and its not constant just kind of random pain. Is it jus my anxiety freakin me out or is it heartburn.. or is it something else i need to worry about?

I suffered with heartburn almost all my pregnancy...I'm so upset I didn't tell my Dr sooner because I thought he would tell me tums or zantac..but he prescribed a medication named pantoprazole sod 40 mg. Girl every since I started it I have had no heartburn at all, not even that gassy bloated feeling I also had...so talk to your Dr about the medication and see what he says. Best wishes.

im 32wks and i get heartburn like crazy! anything i eat gives it to me... what can i eat to make it go away? with out any medication?

For the last couple of days, anything I eat, gives me heartburn! I did have heartburn once in a while! Now I'm concerned that I get it every time I eat! Must something be wrong???

lol it's still VERY early for you!!! maybe you're having symptoms super early, but that's REALLY early for heartburn & stuff.. unless you're eating something to cause it. a lot of women don't get symptoms until 6 weeks or further along.. I'm up once again, 4:30 a.m. with heartburn, insomnia, ugh.. I still feel blessed though!!!

I go to the gym almost every day. I really don`t have a lot of gerd symptoms..just belching sometimes. I been taking medication for about 3 weeks. I also have mild colitis. It`s difficult to talk to my physician because I live in Japan and he doesn`t speak much English.

I am having the same symptoms. Heartburn, back pain, lightheaded and neausea, I also had lots of belching but I do that to try and stop the neausea. I took my blood pressure and it was 146/91 and BPM was 86, my normal is about 110/66 and BPM is about 65 to 70. I had Reflux surgery 15 years ago and have not had heartburn since, until last night. Symptoms have gone away since the middle of the night. History of my family.

My dr gave me a list of symptoms to look out for. It's heartburn that DOESN'T go away after taking tums or antacids, or anything like that. Also, right sided rib pain, and headache that doesn't go away.
