Common Questions and Answers about Heartburn symptoms weight loss

heartburn

Avatar m tn After doing that for about a week, I started having symptoms of heartburn - usually upon awakening and during the morning hours; it usually subsides by noon. When I eat during this time, I often feel the food going down the esophagus with some discomfort at times. My question is this - could this be a symptom of hypothyroidism/hyperthyroidism or related in any way to me taking half the dosage of levothyroxine? How should I proceed?
Avatar m tn When I workout I mainly lift weights so I expect that I should gain weight rather than loose it right? The weight loss has been pretty drastic. A couple of months ago I was about 240ish pounds. Then I dropped down to 225 pounds. At that time I wasnt really eating, as I didnt have an appetite. Then, I was making my self eat. I would eat a lot as well. My weight would go up to about 227 pounds then go right back to 225. I went to the doctor because of this and he tested me for diabetes.
Avatar f tn Sometimes you'll lose weight in the 1st trimester due to MS and also in the 3rd due to heartburn/ acid reflux and other symptoms. So don't fret especially if your doc haven't an issue with it. Instead take pride in it. I gained 17lbs so far and I'm 36 +2 and ive been suffering from a loss of appetite now due to acid reflux and heartburn.
Avatar n tn I am on 500 mg and it has done nothing for weight loss. It actually constipated me for the first few days and gave me heartburn and chest pain. I don't know if that is normal or not. My doctor says I am insulin resistant and he thinks this will help me loss weight. Should I ask to increase it? Or is it to soon?
378497 tn?1232147185 I was healthy weight-wise to begin with, had a healthy BMI. I'm not sure why the weight loss, really, but I'm also not complaining. Might just be that with daily thyroid hormone pill instead of whacko thyroid, things have equilibrated. Not constipation here. ;-) Somethin' else. The only meds I take are levothyroxine in the a.m. and low-dose Pill in the pm, neither of which is new. I do prop myself up (learned that one while pg), but it's just not doing it.
222011 tn?1265475648 I always a bit of a mild heartburn problem, but shortly before my hashi hypo dx (and the onset of my hypo symptoms), I developed raging heartburn, all the time, bad enough to wake me up every night. I was sent to gastro MD and diagnosed w/ reflux. The endoscopy is nothing to fear, in fact I slept through the entire procedure and I don't remember ANY of it!!! They gave me an IV w/ some sort of drug/anesthesia that completely put me under!!! My friend had exact same experience.
Avatar n tn About a month ago, I noticed my abdomen getting significantly larger- belly is distended to size I was at 4 to 6 months pregnant, worse at night. Weight unchanged. I was worried about my weight and my growing belly- Dr. ordered emergency ultrasound. Morning of the ultrasound, I began vomiting and also had diarrhea- relieved the distention. Had a fever that night.
Avatar m tn if everyday i use to drink lemon water, will i loss my weight ?
Avatar f tn Drink water throughout the day, too. And, of course, follow GERD diet/lifestyle changes. And yes, weight loss is quite possibly THE best thing you could do for your symptoms. (FYI: I used to be 324lbs. I'm now 237. I speak from experience.) As for the medicines, all PPIs take a few days to start working.
Avatar f tn The right side of my abdomen is now swollen, it is apparent that is is swollen due to the fact that the other side is sunken in severely after all the weight loss. I am beginning to worry and each day I feel weaker. If anyone has any idea what might be wrong, I would very much appreciate the input.
Avatar m tn Other symptoms such as abdominal fullness or pain, dark stools, excessive belching, vomting, nausea, loss of apetite, as well as general decline in health and presence of weakness or weight loss are also present. Also, symptoms may not occur in the early stages of the disease. Diagnostic tests will help in the diagnosis. Lifestyle changes such as smoking cessation, eating healthy, and taking medications as prescribed are highly recommended.
Avatar f tn I'm at the end of the rope with these medications. I've changed my diet, and lost weight. I don't smoke or drink. Yet my heartburn is seemingly chronic. For me, it's chest pains after a meal (no matter how small). On a good day I only have this constant feeling of needing to burp. I'd greatly appreciate any medication recommendations, or any advice!
Avatar n tn Does anyone know if a hiatel hernia could cause rapid weight loss, vomiting, fatigue and a burning sensation behind the sternum? He's lost another pound since Friday. He simply can't go on like this.

Avatar m tn A short while back--before I went vegan, and after gaining 20 lbs in 2 months, going from 226lbs to 246lbs--I considered medical weight loss. There I was told that I could, at most, expect to drop to 200. (My body fat percentage was about 26.6% then.) My goal was 180, but no matter: all I want is to be healthier. Besides, I already have this not-so-nifty skin hanging around which may need to be snipped.
1666434 tn?1325265950 Ok everyone it's almost the end of the week, how is everyone doing with their weight loss program? Do you notice some things you are doing that help more than others? Is it exercise or watching what you eat? Or both? Share your progress, we can do it!
Avatar m tn My sugar is still great but no more weight loss. I thought this was going to be my answer to weight loss prayers. I did have a lot of nausea and loss of appetite so I guess that had a lot to do with it. I have contacted the company but haven't gotten a reply. Let me know how you do.
Avatar n tn I am hoping with a strict exercise/diet regimen that once I draw close to my projected weight (a 125 pound loss), my GERD symptoms can be managed without medication. Previously I had noted that even a 30 pound loss was able to make a notable difference in alleviating reflux. My main concern though is whether I let too much time pass and that I may now be at risk for Barrett's Esophagus.
222011 tn?1265475648 Hi, I had part of my thyroid removed 2 years ago due to a benign nodule which resulted in having to take Levothyroxine (100mg) daily. Haven't felt really well since my op with numerous symptons. Have had ECG,Ultrasound,Barium Swallow, CT scan on neck, tested for Helicobacter pylori, blood tests but every test has come back negative. Have constant pressure in my chest and suffer greatly from heartburn and cough (not chronic & no weight loss).
Avatar n tn I have severe, painful heartburn. I don't seem to be able to associate it with food and tums don't help. It scares me to no end because of the chest discomfort I have been having. It happens sporadically and every time I think I'll let it go because it's happened before -- but I can't. I have worn a 30 day monitor too. I had this nasty heartburn at the time and it recorded nothing, well except NORMAL cardiac activity. I still have a hard time with that one.
1486478 tn?1307466597 However, as wonderful as that is, it seems that the more weight I lose, the more miserable I become. I dunno whether to blame the weight loss, the anxiety, or both. Main symptoms are chest heaviness constantly, back, shoulder, neck, and chest pains that are intermittent throughout the day. It's even worse at night when I try to sleep, which has led to insomnia, so I'm not getting much sleep either. I'm literally miserable.
937650 tn?1314280349 Unsteadiness and nausea increased, Upcoming days I suffered more symptoms. Returned 5 weeks ago, many symptoms still! Lost weight. Before trip 70kg/154pounds, now 61kg/134pounds.
Avatar n tn Do yall think I am safe or not? Also dr. gave me Phentomine to help with weight loss, has anyone else taken this? What was your experience? I didn't sleep all night last night and I am not sure if it is from that. Thanks!!!
Avatar n tn Well all have a varying amount of symptoms for me it was lower back pain, heartburn, changes in bowels, tummy bloated(ascites fluids)pain with sex,and a fullness in my tummy after only eating a few bites, fatique and weight loss even though my tummy kept expanding.
Avatar n tn Last week my health practitioner diagnosed gluten and lactose intolerance, after few different docs were trying to convince me that I need antidepressants and a psychotherapy. My main symptoms were pains in the stomach, constant heartburn, loss of appetite, very loose stool, gases, weight loss, weak muscles, fatigue and exhaustion, but the worse was constant anxiety and depressive moods.
Avatar n tn Well, the last time I posted was 11/08/05 re my gall bladder/weight loss/abdominal pain and since then I've have started the Protonix (since changed to Nexxium) and I haven't had any pain attacks in my upper abdoment area. I thought Protonix/Nexxium were for ulcer/GERD (which I have NEVER been diagnosed as having either of them) yet, it seems to be keeping me free from the pain I was experiencing. I still eat what I want.Breakfast: oatmeal and toast. No more coca-colas everyday.
Avatar f tn At 6 weeks I was diagnosed with Hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) which is persistent vomiting, nausea, dehydration and weight loss and have been battling with it everyday since then (I'm 14wks, 4d now). I'm on IV's and a Zofran pump 24 hours a day! It's difficult.
Avatar f tn About 7 weeks ago, I started vomiting every time I ate or drank more than a mouthful of food or liquid (and sometimes with swallowing any amount at all). This was accompanied by a near-total loss of appetite. Both these symptoms are still active.
