Avatar f tn The CD DST (collagen gel droplet drug sensitivity test) is a method that has been used to test chemosensitivity in colorectal, lung and head/neck cancers. As far as I know, this test has not been incorporated in the treatment guidelines as a standard procedure in the management of these cancers.
Avatar m tn Mohs’ micrographic surgery might prove useful for excision of melanoma, especially lesions located on the head, neck, hands, and feet. However, there are no formal recommendations pending additional studies.4 Studies suggest that the current recommendation of 0.5-mm margins for lentigo maligna (melanoma in situ) is often insufficient. Mohs’ micrographic surgery and margin-controlled excision of lentigo maligna offer lower recurrence rates and allow tissue to be conserved." http://www.
Avatar m tn I am trying to get something in writing to show that this decision does not follow within the accepted guidelines for treatment of his form of Hepititis. I believe the Dr. in Az. may have made this decision not realizing he did not have a 12 week blood sample. My son is 43 years old and in otherwise good health. He has not had any symptoms of Hep C nor has he had any side effects from the treatments.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed anti-depressents which calmed me but the headaches continued. I was then sent for a MRI head and neck scan without dye which came back clear. I have also had a ct scan of bowel and several other tests which again have been ok. I am now feeling sick but my GP will not send me for any more tests. I have a fear of cancer after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer ten years ago which turned out to be a complete mistake.
5559430 tn?1369931341 I have a hard time tolerating this stiff neck and head pain. I feel so bad that I almost always feel like I should go to the emergency room.
Avatar n tn Lymph nodes enlarge when there is an infection. The head and neck area have an extensive network of lymph nodes. These lymph nodes function like a filter, and thus increase in size in the presence of infection to filter out organisms. Even with treatment, some lymph nodes remain enlarged. A recurrent infection would further increase the size of the lymph node. However, there are other conditions that can present with lymph node enlargement. Head and neck malignancy is an example.
Avatar f tn Tamoxifen is always recommended following radiation after lumpectomy when the tumor is ER/PR+. The usual course of treatment is for 5 years. This is the standard medical treatment in cases as noted above ... I can't imagine it NOT being recommended by any publication; unless of course the tumor was found to be ER/PR neg. Then it would be of no value. Regards ....
Avatar n tn This happens very infrequently, but if it does, there are many treatment options available. If a cancer recurrence is detected in your neck lymph nodes, the best course of action is usually an operation to remove the affected node or nodes, as described above. Other treatment options include radioiodine therapy. Radioactive iodine is given as a pill and this iodine is taken up by thyroid cancer metastases and the radioactivity destroys them (without harming other parts of your body).
523728 tn?1264621521 According to the NCCN (National Comprehensive Cancer Network) 2009 guidelines, acceptable chemotherapy drugs in relapsed (platinum resistant) ovarian cancer include liopsomal doxorubicin, docetaxel, gemcitabine, etoposide, paclitaxel (weekly), pemetrexed, and topotecan. There is no overwhelming data to support the selection of one drug over the others, and doctor and patient preference plays a large part in deciding which agent to choose.
Avatar m tn For patients without history of cancer, follow-up is based on Fleischner Society guidelines, which takes into account nodule size and appearance, as well as if patient is low risk or high risk for lung cancer (e.g., smoking history). For patients with history of cancer, as in your case, Fleischner Society guidelines do not apply. Instead, follow-up is based on the specific clinical situation and at the discretion of ordering provider.
Avatar m tn 9 so I went through radiation with hormone therapy for seven weeks. PSA went down to .01, after the hormone treatment. Follow up appointments were made, the latest PSA was 2.9 in April 2011, My oncologist said that the PSA reading is too low to be concerned with. I also had bone scan, MRI done and they found 5mm size growth in my pelvic area. My oncologist told me that he wants to see me in August for evaluation. I am concerned about the rising PSA.
587787 tn?1218804459 Keep in mind the MRI was early in the morning, laying flat on a table with a towel roll under my neck, and a head stabilizer strapped to the back board. So I still wonder that if the headaches are worse as the day progresses, the weakness is worse, the numbness of my face, tingling of my fingers and feet.
Avatar n tn This is consistent with the Guidelines developed by the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery Foundation. The following is an abstract that explains those guidelines and provides information on the non-surgical diagnostic evaluation and treatment of chronic sinusitis. I have included the information from that document, cited below, for you to have a better understanding of chronic sinusitis and to serve as a starting point for discussions with your physician(s).
Avatar n tn Oral HPV has no preference oral or vaginal, its equally satisfied to live in either place, it loves mucosa. Avatar m tn I am a former smoker, 39 years old, recently quit. I was looking up lung cancer screening guidelines and determined that I don't fit into the first category of people for whom yearly low dosage screening is recommended, and I never will as I do not have anywhere close to 30 pack years of smoking. My question is about the second category (recommendation 2b). I have calculated conservatively (meaning overestimated to be safe) and I came up with 19 pack years of smoking for me.
Avatar m tn The doctor thinks that there is no purpose in doing the ultrasound and the results does not change the current tdf treatment plan. He said there is no guidelines on requiring ultrasound scan while on treatment. I'm believe ultrasound should still be good to check, I am looking for the guidelines and see if ultrasound is necessary while on treatment. Does anyone know the USA approved guidelines on whether ultrasound is necessary while on antiviral treatment?
611254 tn?1223914841 I'm a 38 yr. old who is currently undergoing treatment for two neck issues and I don't know if they could be related. I have had a thyroid nodule for 7 yrs. now. After the initial check of the lump I was told to come back in 6 months. Well, 7 yrs. later I decided to see a Dr. to get it re-checked because I really don't feel good. After an MRI,US & FNA (showed atypical very hypocellular) I am currently awaiting my appt. for a surgeon to biopsy the nodule.
