Graves disease weight control

Common Questions and Answers about Graves disease weight control

graves-disease

Avatar f tn But since Graves treatment, weight has plagued me (along with fatigue, hair loss, vision issues, anxiety/depression at times) but ALWAYS THE DARNED weight!!! Now, new endo says RAI is what she would’ve advised originally...as I’m going to most likely end up hypO and taking synthroid/levo for the rest of my life. Ugh. Anyone manage to get their weight back under control after RAI? Or on synthroid? I’m dreading this! I’m scared of RAI.
Avatar f tn Everyone is different when it comes to medications and their thyroid disease-though weight loss is more common of Graves' disease, some people gain, just like some people lose weight being hypo. I was on 5 of methimazole myself when diagnosed with Graves', and gained 15lbs. For me, it was much needed-I had lost nearly thirty pounds in just a few short months being un-medicated.
Avatar n tn I am a 33 yr old female who was diagnosed with Graves disease almost 2 yrs ago. At this point it is pretty much out of control and I am having problems getting into see an Endo. My TSH is .009, T3 1329 and T4 3.94. I have had a numerous amount of symptoms develop over the last few months the one that concerns me the most is a constant feeling of someone chocking me. Although my levels are extremely high I have still managed to gain 25lbs over the past year and a half.
Avatar f tn Hi there, I was dx'd with Graves in March 2006. I have been on MMI(methimazole) for 2.8 yrs. I started off on 30 mgs. and went very very hypo right away. I have gained 38 pounds in 2.8 years and feel dreadful. When dx'd my TSI was 243 <129. My FT4 for was 1.86(.8-1.85) and FT3 was 2.60 <2.00. I really never had very high FT's. They have always stayed low but my TSH has been low forever. I think I have many blocking antibodies because of my TBII is 31% <16%.
Avatar m tn Yeah sounds like she could indeed have a thyroid disease. Graves disease in particular starts off overactive, and symptoms are usually ignored or not noticed...for me it was impossible to gain weight, I had way too much energy and difficulty sleeping. When the thyroid gets overworked though the opposite happens and you become underactive, very quick weight gain and extreme tiredness.
Avatar n tn iam apatient who suffers graves disease. My question is : Although I am almost 4 months on Carbamizole treatment 60 mg + Taking inderal ( propanalol), but the levels of my T4 & T3 are still high and the levels of TSH is less than 0.01. what do you think , should i sstop the medication and think of the other allternatives like the radioactive iodine or surgical removal?
Avatar f tn Looks like Graves' disease based on the significant elevation in T3 however to confirm this a TSI blood test or I-123 nuclear uptake would be required.
Avatar f tn I've just been diagnosed with Graves' Disease. I have autoimmune thyroid disease that has changed from being primary Hashimoto's thyroiditis to Graves's Disease. I was diagnosed in 1997 with Fibromyalgia. I also have severe osteoarthritis, especially in both hands. What am I doing wrong? The doctor told me I'm a very strange case. What's that mean?
Avatar n tn I have had steroids for my eyes and and tapazole nothing has worked. I have toxic nodoles along with Graves disease. I have changed my diet and tried different things what do you suggest. I'm not sleeping, I have gained most of my weight back with increased heart beat. What can I do.
Avatar f tn Hi All, How do people go with exercising with Graves diease. My T4 are elevated at present and pulse rate is fast with frequent bouts of anxiety and palpatations and feeling ike crying. Yet weight is stacked on after holidays and joined a Gym to help lose weight. It is difficult to keep my pulse at safe levels and have any energy after to get tea? Does anyone else have these problems - do you have any suggestions - it is important to me to improve my fitness but I do not want to expire at 44.
Avatar m tn I found out I had graves disease in 1992. I was treated for my hyperthyroid with the medicine PTU for 2 years. I was good for 12 years (2004) then took PTU again for 1 !/2 years good until now (2009) I think had ovarian cancer and the chemotherapy and stress probably triggered it. Now I am back for tests and probably will go on methimazole this time. What the previous post said about treatments is what I know. It always takes a little time to balance, but then I feel much better.
Avatar n tn Graves is an autoimmune disease and unfortunately for life. Controlling whether they raise or suppress is key to beating the symptoms of the disease. If you are on Levo now - your labs must be abnormal and now lean towards hypoT levels. You would feel like cr@p right now with the swinging patterns you have been on. "Once Graves.... always Graves" is the saying here. But I am positive your endo or ???

Avatar n tn Thyroxin doesnt make you gain the weight...unstable levels do. Once you go hypo after RAI (I went hypo after 5 weeks)....then thyroxin will help you stabalise your levels. Good luck with the RAI....its nowhere near as bad as Hyperthyroidism and Graves. You will feel like a new person after the RAI. The symptoms arent so severe either...when you go hyper/hypo. Just make sure your Doc doesnt let your TSH go higher than 10.0 before you start on a low dose of thyroxin. Yell out if you need to vent.

199177 tn?1490498534 My husband was diagnosed with graves disease this last week .He sees the endocrinologist Monday is there anybody that can help me understand this and are the partiular questions he needs to be asking the doctor .
Avatar n tn While Graves Disease is always associated with hyperthyroidism, not all hyperthyroidism is Graves Disease, because Hashimoto's, which is most often associated with hypothyroidism, is often characterized by periods of hyperthyroidism in the early stages and can even swing back and forth between hyper, hypo and normal.
Avatar f tn Yes-I am having terrible troubles with my weight! Before I had Grave's disease, my weight was very predictable...if I cut calories, I lost weight. If I over-induldged, I gained. It was pretty easy to control. With Grave's, before I was diagnosed or medicated, I lost a little weight, but was VERY hungry all the time. Once medicated, I stabilized UNTIL my dr. upped my dosage too much. Within 2 months, I gained 20 lbs-no matter how little or healthfully i ate!

Avatar m tn Ihad exactly the same problems. After TT (graves disease) I had the same symptoms. It takes from 6 months to a year for a stable situation. All the best.
Avatar n tn Hello. I'm 36 and I am almost 9 weeks pregnant. I have Graves' disease and had radiation treatment back in 2009. I hadn't been taking my thyroxine constantly for a few months as I was super stressed and now that I am pregnant haven't missed a dose. My thyroid levels are still very high and I'm worried that this will affect my baby's brain development/IQ levels. Has anyone else had similar experiences? I'm scared and worried.
