Avatar f tn But since Graves treatment, weight has plagued me (along with fatigue, hair loss, vision issues, anxiety/depression at times) but ALWAYS THE DARNED weight!!! Now, new endo says RAI is what she would’ve advised originally...as I’m going to most likely end up hypO and taking synthroid/levo for the rest of my life. Ugh. Anyone manage to get their weight back under control after RAI? Or on synthroid? I’m dreading this! I’m scared of RAI.
Avatar f tn Everyone is different when it comes to medications and their thyroid disease-though weight loss is more common of Graves' disease, some people gain, just like some people lose weight being hypo. I was on 5 of methimazole myself when diagnosed with Graves', and gained 15lbs. For me, it was much needed-I had lost nearly thirty pounds in just a few short months being un-medicated.
Avatar f tn And doctors do not believe anything I say about what has been going on with my body, my symptoms, and my weight. With the weight gain from graves and graves; eye disease..I do not want to be seen or go out and run into people.
199177 tn?1490498534 My husband was diagnosed with graves disease this last week .He sees the endocrinologist Monday is there anybody that can help me understand this and are the partiular questions he needs to be asking the doctor .
Avatar f tn Have you been tested for Graves Disease? Graves is a thyroid disease, often associated with hyperthyroidism, which is known to contribute to weight loss.
Avatar f tn rapid heart beat, weight loss, shakey hands, anxiety attacks and a few more. I saw my gp first and he sent me to an endo to do further testing when my tsh came back at .10. He could only tell me I was hyper at that point and the endo did the other tests. According to my surgeon, a goiter only means that the thyroid is enlarged...it can be all over or just one side. Mine was all over. I didnt think I had a goiter, but he corrected me. If you have Graves, did your gp dispense medicine for you?
Avatar n tn he could have graves disease? i am suffering from graves with similar symptoms without the weight loss I am atypical of this symptom (of course) and have gained weight. they will start him on meds to help out his levels back to normal.
Avatar m tn Sounds like your girlfriend might have an autoimmune disease called Graves Disease. I'd have to know what blood tests she had in order to know whether she was tested adequately or not.. Graves Disease causes hyperthyroidism, whose primary symptom is weight loss. Another possibility is diabetes, but it would depend on how long she's had the weight loss issue. If it's very long, she'd have other symptoms of diabetes.
877337 tn?1249844450 Thanks for the reply. I am confused about my symptoms. After much research online and self evaluation, I realized that I have most all of the hyperthyroid symptoms (except weight loss which I need). I have an apt to see an Endocrinologist on May 8th. I'm thinking I may be leaning towards having Graves Disease but my scan only showed one lobe being over active. It could simply be a form of hyperthyroidism that I haven't clued in on yet. The uptake results were high too.
Avatar f tn Graves Disease is an Autoimmune Disease and usually when one autoimmune disease is found, there is usually a 2nd one found (this one being Diabetes). The Graves and Hyperthyroidism can be treated by either anti-thyroid meds or pernmanant treatment which will eventually stablaise the Diabetes although this is extremely hard if the Diabetes has been undetected for a long time. And something to watch for is ...Metformin can interefer with thyroid medications.
Avatar n tn The symptoms I had before I was diagnosed with Graves was loss of weight, shaking, one eye was huge and I had severe abdominal cramping.
3075809 tn?1355081008 You might want to have your boyfriend get tested for Graves Disease/hyperthyroidism, which causes fast weight loss. Have him get tested for TSH, Free T3 and Free T4, along with antibodies, TSI. Diabetes is another condition that often causes weight loss.
Avatar f tn I was disgnosed with Graves when I was 14 years old and I am now 20 years old. I had general symptoms of Graves disease such as; Heart palpatations, goiter, tremors, weight loss, and sweats of my hands. I was first put on Atentol for my heart and Methmazole twice daily for my thyroid. Within a month I was off of my heart medicine and was still on Methmazole twice daily. Then probably within 3 months I was down to the dose which I still take today, one 10mg tablet of Methmazole at bedtime.
Avatar f tn Weight from thyroid disease can spiral down and cause someone years of gaining weight other metobolism issue malfunctions. Reverse T3 hormone - Lepitin - insulin resistance and cortisol issues can accompany the thyroid patients illness and the weight can be extremely stubborn to get off after those things are taken down too. You MUST balance the Free T3 is get the other metobolism components burning fat too.
Avatar m tn ve been having all the symptoms of hyperthyroidism or graves such as red bloodshot eyes/off white which ive never had before... blurry vision at times, weight loss (173 down to 163) even tho i eat more than normal..I have rapid heart beat at times ,shaky hands at times, weak legs at times and brain fog. All these symptoms come and go. I had my tests run twice now everything is "normal"i had mri for brain that was all clear. My tsh is .764, T3 free 3.4 pg/ml and T4 free 1.
Avatar n tn I was Diagnosed and Treated with radioactive Iodine for Graves Disease in the Fall of last year. Since then I have been battling hair loss, weight gain, muscle cramps and extreme tiredness. I recently in May went on the synthroid but haven't had much change except for the muscle cramps have reduced. My question is though, how does taking synthroid effect your periods.
Avatar m tn t have insatiable hunger, fast weight loss or even fast weight gain. I have had recurrent bouts of episcleritis, some fine hand tremors and sometimes, some heart palps. I am concerned about having my thyroid removed because what if there is a different underlying problem which is causing this. I don't have my levels yet, I will get the lab work in a week as well as meet with my endo then. I'm just wondering what other things should I look into so that I am well prepared for this journey.
