Avatar n tn My daughter uses the One Touch Ultra, and she has had no problems with it. When she goes in for her quarterly exams, the numbers in her meter seem consistent with the A1C numbers. Does anyone else out there have advice on meters?
Avatar n tn Is there usually a difference in the test results from blood drawn from the arm and blood drawn from the finger tip? I heard that the fingertip blood can test higher than blood drawn from the arm and I wondered if that is usually the case.
Avatar n tn Dear Jerry, Again i'm no doctor but when i do get a blood test done i also do a reading on my meter and though they may be off it isn't 10% to 20%. And when i compare my note with my endocrinologist, she says that is well within the lab specs for a test. But i'm usually high in my meter test. Hope other may shed more light on this. Being a little off is within the parameters of lab type tests.
Avatar f tn Diagnosed about 4 months ago and use one touch meter to test I have been vigilant watching what I eat.this has happened quite a few timesfor example, . I test two hours after meal and am at 133, which I think is high for what my meal was. Only Two minutes later I test again and meter drops to 117?? Is meter not good or broken? Should I change meters?
Avatar m tn It's good to see that you are trying to manage your glucose levels b4 they get out of control. An OGTT requires you to be sedentary 2 hours post test. Being active 1 hour post defeated your "homemade" test. See this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glucose_tolerance_test Q: "What can be the normal glucose level after 3-4 hours lunch or dinner time" A: Glucose peaks 2-3 hours after meals where the normal value is <180 mg/dl and the optimum is <140 mg/dl.
Avatar f tn Use your home meter to test your glucose levels. If you're having memory issues start a log - date/time/dose - so you have something to reference in the future.
Avatar n tn He told her to contact her doctor immediately in regards to high blood glucose. This was on Monday. She had an appointment with her primary care physician on Tuesday anyways for an unrelated issue. She said she told her primary care physician about the blood work, but her doctor didn't take it seriously or did not believe her. This is where my sister intervened. She received a call from the nephrologist's office nurse with her concerns about the blood glucose.
Avatar f tn Intook my 1-hour glucose test this morning. It was horrible. I am praying I don't have to take the 3-hour one. I have been nauseous since. Anyone else get nauseous after drinking that awful drink?!?!
885280 tn?1289562555 Anyway I looked on the box that the glucose meter came in and the exper. date is 12/2009. I wonder if that could mean the numbers are off because like I said before I almost pass out when I hit 70. With the information you gave me it makes alot more sence. I have never had a A1c test. I plan to ask my doc to give me one when i go back on monday. As for proper weight LOL I have put on 20lbs last month. This is really suprising sence I have been the same give or take 4lbs for the past 5 years.
Avatar f tn s interesting that you question the accuracy of your glucose meter for I was reading the September 2008 issues of Consumer Reports that rated both blood-pressure monitors and blood-glucose meters. Only one blood-glucose meter scored excellent overall and also scored the highest for consistency- the Johnson & Johnson Lifescan OneTouch Ultra Mini. The Ultra Mini was followed by Ascensia Contour, ReliOn Ultima (WalMart), and Accu-check Compact Plus.
Avatar n tn CAN WE ***** HIS TOES OR FORE ARM ETC? ALSO, SHOULD I GET A PSYCHOLOGICAL TEST ON MY SON BEING DIABETES HAS AN EFFECT ON HIS BRAIN DEVELOPMENT IF HE RUNS LOW? HE SEEMS FINE TO ME EXCEPT WIHT HIS SPEECH AT TIMES MY HUSBAND AND I FOUND THAT WHEN HE IS LOW OR EVEN HIGH LIKE IN THE 300'S HE TENDS TO STUTTER.
Avatar m tn Low glucose levels are the most likely etiology. I know you say you "do not have diabetes", however I would like you to obtain a glucose meter, and take a blood stick. The shakiness and dizziness are hallmarks of low blood glucose levels..
Avatar f tn Tingling and numbness can be signs of nerve damage caused by uncontrolled and unmanaged diabetes - excess and unknown glucose levels. Does your husband have a home glucose test meter and is he testing his glucose levels at the appropriate times? More can said about this once we hear back from you. Also, not mentioned is his last A1c test result.
Avatar m tn m not certain of the health protocols in India regarding home glucose meter purchases. In the States they run around $10-15 American and can be found at most all drug/pharmacy stores. If you are uncertain call your doctor and ask him/her. Test first thing in morning [fasting] then 2-3 hours after a meal [postprandial]. The latter tells you how the foods you consumed affected your glucose levels. Avoid/restrict those that do.
Avatar m tn Acceptance criteria in ISO 15197, 2003 are that 95% of all differences in glucose values (i.e., between reference method and meter) should be within 15 mg/dL for glucose values less than 75 mg/dL, and within 20% for glucose values greater than or equal to 75 mg/dL.
Avatar f tn The other day, I did two measurements of sugar blood in a row, (same finger) seconds appart and the glucose meter showed a difference in the numbers.
Avatar m tn Glucose will only show up in the urine once it has reached high levels in the blood. As a result, a glucose urine test is not useful for helping a person monitor and control their diabetes.
Avatar f tn A1c test - will provide a mean glucose measurement. The test result is in % [percentile]. The optimum max range is 5% [99 mg/dl] even though some set high a value of 7% [154 mg/dl], which to me contradicts normal fasting ranges of 60/70-99 mg/dl. Also test for Thyroid dysfunction. A TSH [Thyroid Stimulating Hormone] test will check the release of T3 and T4 hormones by your pituitary gland. A malfunctioning thyroid will disrupt insulin production causing your glucose levels to be erratic.
Avatar n tn First, any prandial test (fasting and after meal) captures glucose only at test time, not yesterday, two days ago, or a three weeks ago. It really doesn't tell a doctor what is going with your glucose levels at all times of the day. Home glucose meters are good to see how well one is managing their glucose levels. Having scaled results (high to low, or normal to near high or above) calls for an A1c test to see the entire picture. An A1c test measures your glucose going back three months.
Avatar f tn They are not meant to be an accurate representation of your glucose but an estimate for you to judge what your liver is doing while sleeping, for you to test upon awakening in the morning, to test and provide a baseline measurement preprandial [before meals] level, and to test to see how the foods you consumed affected your glucose level postprandial [2-3 hrs after meal]. Random testing is useless, don't bother as you have nothing to refer against.
Avatar m tn The machine I am using is the one the Doc gave me in her office. I used it twice in her office to test and the numbers I came up with matched pretty closely the numbers she had gotten from me on her meter so I am guessing it is not a meter issue. I also just got this a few days ago so I don't think a recalibration would be needed so soon.
Avatar n tn is this necessary? do i need the glucose test if my blood sugar test came back just fine??? thanks for the help !
