glucose

Avatar f tn These are the times to test 1] preprandial fasting [nothing to eat or drink [except water] for 8-10 hours] - this will provide an insight on how much glucose your liver dumps in anticipation of your awakening energy needed. 2] preprandial [before meal] - this will provide a baseline measurement against how the foods you consumed affected your glucose levels 3] postprandial [2-3 hours after meal] - this is when glucose from foods you consumed plateau in your bloodstream.
Avatar n tn Dear Jerry, Again i'm no doctor but when i do get a blood test done i also do a reading on my meter and though they may be off it isn't 10% to 20%. And when i compare my note with my endocrinologist, she says that is well within the lab specs for a test. But i'm usually high in my meter test. Hope other may shed more light on this. Being a little off is within the parameters of lab type tests.
Avatar n tn Fasting glucose: 62 This is low and dangerous if was measured in mg/dl. It helps us understand better when you post your measurement results in full. This forum is visited by people from around the world. Different countries use different scales. In The USA mg/dl is mostly used, where the UK uses mmol/L. Impaired Glucose tolerance Two hours after drinking the test liquid you measure 140-199 mg/dl. You don't mention what your two hour level was. I bought a store brand glucose meter..
Avatar n tn I would do two things; first, fasting test with another meter and with yours at the same time to see if yours is out of calibration; two, I would get an A1c test to verify normal glucose level. If the A1c results are normal, don't fret anymore.
Avatar f tn Hello! I'm not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. I assume by your 'machine' you mean the glucose meter? The most common reason for such swings in glucose scores is because of residue on your fingers when you test. Make sure you wash your hands well, with particular focus on your fingers, using a non-perfumey soap. Perfume soaps have extra alcohols in them which can cause your blood sugars to falsely show as being high.
Avatar f tn The other day, I did two measurements of sugar blood in a row, (same finger) seconds appart and the glucose meter showed a difference in the numbers.
Avatar n tn If you had soap or alcohol residue on your finger the test results would be imperfect. If the meter was old and mishandled, uncalibrated, test strips expired the test would results would be imperfect. The OGTT is one way to help determine blood glucose levels. Be sure to fast 8-10 hours prior. No food or colored liquids during this period. Don't cheat. Just a little bit skewers the results. Good luck.
Avatar n tn It is aweful when those levels fall....i went out and bought a glucose meter and started testing myself when i had those symptoms and starting charting. Low and behold i was dropping into the 50's and 60's. I started eating something every 2 hrs and modified what i was consuming to help me through these lows. You won;t know unless you get meter and start testing yourself throughout your days.
Avatar m tn Buddy - Be sure to include some sort of 30-60 minute daily exercise, like walking for example. Exercise helps to: • Burn off excess fat • Improve insulin production which helps lower glucose levels • Lower blood pressure • Improve overall health When exercising the body requires fuel/energy. It gets this from your muscles and liver. Walking briskly like you're late to catching your airplane flight makes the muscles and liver release stored glucose, in turn you burn this off.
Avatar n tn Is there usually a difference in the test results from blood drawn from the arm and blood drawn from the finger tip? I heard that the fingertip blood can test higher than blood drawn from the arm and I wondered if that is usually the case.
Avatar f tn Diagnosed about 4 months ago and use one touch meter to test I have been vigilant watching what I eat.this has happened quite a few timesfor example, . I test two hours after meal and am at 133, which I think is high for what my meal was. Only Two minutes later I test again and meter drops to 117?? Is meter not good or broken? Should I change meters?
503651 tn?1223174601 Inconsistent meter readings can and will happen. Here are some things you need to be aware of about home test meters; 1. Home meters run off of a photo cell battery. The battery may have drained below its normal usage mark resulting in inaccurate readings. Change the battery if your meter allows it. 2. Meters should be calibrated every three months. 3. Lets not forget that mechanical/electronic things fail out of the blue. This might be the case with your meter. 4.
Avatar f tn I had it with my last pregnancy and kept track of it by checking my blood sugar and dieting. It went away after I had my daughter. I did my glucose test today and I'm assuming I might have it with this pregnancy as well.
Avatar m tn It's good to see that you are trying to manage your glucose levels b4 they get out of control. An OGTT requires you to be sedentary 2 hours post test. Being active 1 hour post defeated your "homemade" test. See this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glucose_tolerance_test Q: "What can be the normal glucose level after 3-4 hours lunch or dinner time" A: Glucose peaks 2-3 hours after meals where the normal value is <180 mg/dl and the optimum is <140 mg/dl.
Avatar m tn I would blame this result on the meter. But both results are very close, so your meter is also likely also quite accurate.
920032 tn?1550680156 s important to let us know which standard you are using. Makes a huge difference. Did your home test meter come with a User Guide? Most do which explains how to correctly use the meter. If not you can always Google the make and model number as most manufacturers post "How To" guides online.
Avatar f tn That is why this pregnancy I am resorting to checking my blood glucose with a meter for how ever many weeks instead of subjecting myself to that test. Another one of my friends dud this and her on was fine with it. My daughter is also a type 1 diabetic so we already have the supplies. Good luck on the results. Drink lots of water and rest today.
Avatar m tn Since we have no mention of a home glucose test meter in your post my question to you is how do you know when your blood glucose is going down? And when? See this link on when to test your blood glucose before, during, and after a workout. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/diabetes-and-exercise/DA00105 As Sally mentioned, it is best to monitor your blood glucose with a home test meter. This is the only way to know, besides being tested at the doctors office, your glucose levels.
Avatar n tn Careful, an old meter and/or a meter out of calibration may show false positive results or totally inaccurate test results. Meters need to be calibrated every three months. Last years fasting levels don't count today. Go see your doctor and get tested, at least get the HgbA1c test. A fasting test only measures that moment at the time of the test not over period of days. The A1c goes back three months. The latter will determine whether you are a diabetic and/or a candidate.
Avatar f tn If your fasting glucose is higher than 125 you are actually diabetic. If you get a blood glucose tolerance test your glucose level should be below 200 one - two hours after the test...
Avatar f tn Before you become distraught over your home test results, keep in mind Consumer Reports found ONLY one home glucose test meter providing consistent accurate results. Others failed or were off by some degree. This is the Johnson&Johnson OneTouch Ultra Mini. You can obtain a free one here https://www.onetouchgold.com/simplestart/ Instructions are included with the kit. Until you obtain and test with a known accurate meter I wouldn't trust the results.
