Avatar f tn I had milk and left over garlic bread not even an hour before I started the test. My results came out fine. They are only checking random glucose tolerance not fasting. The cutoff for the results are different so you don't need to worry. Normally Your body is supposed to produce insulin enough to cover your intake no matter how much you eat.
519736 tn?1253986826 Fasting before a test means no food or color liquids for 8-12 hours. Normal fasting blood sugar levels are 60/70 to 99 mg/dl. Prediabetes is 100 to 125 mg/dl. Usually a test result of 109 mg/dl indicates prediabetes. You can verify this by getting an A1c test, which is what doctors use to verify a fasting and/or OGTT test result. Home A1c meters are available OTC or you can ask your doctor for an A1c test.
Avatar f tn I have my test today too and on my paper it says I'm able to have a light breakfast but not to eat or drink anything after the glucose drink
Avatar m tn Hello, I am a thin and highly active 20 year old male who was just recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. The diagnosis is weird because I've never had a poor diet, I played sports, and have little family history of the disease. I should mention though that my father has been "borderline" since the age of 12 and now he is 51 and his condition has not changed. I'm not in denial but recently I've been beginning to wonder if I truly have the disease.
Avatar f tn Doctor's give different instructions. My ob office said eat whatever but the hospital said to fast...both for the same test. There is no way to 'beat' the glucose test though. Even if one passes due to fasting, fetal weight gain and physical symptoms will catch GD if it's there. Also, GD can show up at anytime so testing at specific weeks is purely precautionary and not a good indicator that one who passes will not develop GD.
956931 tn?1271636169 The A1c test is a ‘glycated (or glycosylated) hemoglobin’ test. It measures the amount of glucose that adheres to red blood cell over the lifetime of the cell; about 90-120 days on average. The results *approximate* blood sugar results; a table that compares finger-stick tests and A1c results can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar n tn I compensate by testing a couple of hours after my first sip of coffee and compensating with a tiny bit of insulin if glucose levels are rising. I believe that in my case, my body starts producing adrenalin when the caffeine kicks in. And adrenalin can make sugars rise. So I suspect that this effect is different for different people. Just check often while drinking coffee so you can catch it and compensate if glucose levels rise.
Avatar f tn My doctor told me that my glucose fasting score of 96 on a scale of 70-100 was nothing to worry about, but just bought a one touch and have noticed that in the morning before breakfast so far, I'm at between 96-113 and about 118 an hour after eating. How do I respond to these scores? By eating something immediately? What? So confused.Am collecting numbers but don't know how to respond to them? What do I do?
Avatar f tn That's crazy that so many women on here said their drs said not to fast. I've seen 4 different obgyns and all sais for the glucose test is a fasting test. Maybe that's why I see so many women on here saying they failed their test? I've never heard of not fasting for this test tho crazy!
Avatar f tn The fasting glucose test measures glucose only at test time, not 2 hours prior, the day before or the week before. Did you sit and rest after getting to the doctor's office or did they call you immediately in and perform the test? The latter can, at times, give false positive readings. False positive being higher than normal/inaccurate. New red blood cells live an average of 3 months.
Avatar f tn You shouldn't be fasting before the glucose test.. I was just told today to eat breakfast before I come in, and then once I drink the stuff I can't eat until after the test.
Avatar f tn Anyone know much about Glucose numbers? I had a test and they said number came back high and want me to retest. I asked what number was and they said 113. I asked them even after eating and that is high . .nurse said yes and come retest. All research I find says 113 is within normal to low range for after eating . . . anyone know anything on this?
Avatar f tn Does anyone have any advice on how to keep or get my morning fasting numbers down? I've been drinking the Organic "mother" Apple Cider vinegar and having a piece of cheese before bedtime and drink Ceylon cinnamon with my coffee every day. I think its helping a little cause on the mornings im high its usually when i forget to drink the vinegar. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar n tn Perhaps the best test for you would be to find out what your hemoglobin a1c test number is. This is a lab test done on glucose that shows what your AVERAGE glucose level was for the past 3 months. If that number is in the normal range, you probably have little to be concerned about. If you have not had a hemoglobin a1c test done, you may want to ask your doctor about doing it.
Avatar f tn i just looked up 3 hour glucose test and it said anything under 140 is normal so i'm confused about what your dr. told you. keep us informed. take care.
Avatar f tn hello doctor...my glucose level is 217 and fasting sugar level is 112...so may i know if my condition is too severe or mild in terms of diabetes??? plz let me know my condition....thank u...
Avatar n tn Thank you for your response. My fasting glucose test was only a blood test. I did not drink anything. It was a simple blood test and off I went. My GP told me that is the test to diagnose hypoglycemia, but his response sounded wrong to me as my symptoms are in relation to food. I am more interested in knowing how my body reacts to food since that is when I am symptomatic. From what I have read, reactive hypoglycemia is not diagnosed by a fasting glucose blood test alone but rather a GTT/OGTT.
Avatar f tn for my next appointment i going to have the glucose tolerance test beverage and i have many question + I'm scared. help is my first time.
Avatar f tn Hey you guys..I will be six months on Tuesday and my next doctors appointment will be when I'm 26weeks and one day....I should be having my glucose tolerance test soon....I was wondering how was it for some of you? Like what was the process you had to go through? I'm just really curious before I have mime..
Avatar m tn 1. Fasting - first thing in morning before breakfast and before having any colored liquids [tea, coffee, milk, sodas]. Water is OK. This will provide you with a baseline and also an insight on what your body is doing while sleeping. Normal levels - 60/70 to 99 mg/dl Prediabetes - 100 to 125 mg/dl Diabetes - >125 mg/dl 2. Preprandial - Before meals, lunch and dinner/supper. Again provides a baseline measurement.
