Avatar f tn There have been increased incidences of fibromyalgia among people suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. Having rheumatoid arthritis can be considered as a risk factor for fibromyalgia. A lack of vitamin D is associated with higher risk of rheumatoid arthritis. A correct intake of vitamin D, along with calcium is very important in protecting the health of our bones. Low vitamin D may lead to early progression of the disease. You need to see a specialist.
1110049 tn?1409402144 Glucosamine is commonly taken in combination with chondroitin, a glycosaminoglycan derived from articular cartilage. Use of complementary therapies, including glucosamine, is common in patients with osteoarthritis, and may allow for reduced doses of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents.
Avatar f tn A traumatic injury or ankle sprain is common cause of ankle swelling and pain. Other causes are rheumatoid arthritis, gout, vascular obstruction etc.In osteoarthritis there are degenerative changes and damage to the articular cartilage. Diagnosis of osteoarthritis is confirmed by physical examination and X-rays of the ankle joint. Medications like glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate are being used as they are effective in reducing the pain of OA in all joints.
Avatar m tn Would a like to try Glucosamine & Chondroitin for my mild hip arthritis. Anyone have good results? Dr prescribed Meloxicam 15mg but am hesitant to start taking it.
Avatar n tn I'm virtually certain I don't have the rheumatoid(arthritis) One could develop/get it anytime(as I recall), & even osteo from rheumatoid, I suppose. I was diagnosed with osteo in '03 & show no egregious new symptoms which would suggest rheumatoid. If the opposite(were true), I'm certain my physician would've had me do the tests you recommend(ed) I know there's "no cure" for osteoarthritis, but inhibit acquiescing since I (appear to) have it.
Avatar f tn Something similar is a glucosamine/chondroitin combination. Again, be sure it's formulated for cats. In humans, both the avocado-soybean unsaponifiables approach and the glucosamine/chondroitin approach seem to have about equal effectiveness. While talking to the vet, also check about prednisolone is not being considered. It's a steroid and often given to dogs, maybe it's not done that much in cats? But it reduces inflammation.
Avatar n tn If arthritis is part of the problem, the glucosamine and chondroitin will help to rebuild the cartilage that wears away because of the arthritis and will make her more comfortable. Please keep us posted as to what the vet says.
1388999 tn?1370042814 that leg a bit in cold damp weather) So I started her straight away on the maximum dosage for her weight of both Glucosamine and Chondroitin (That is 500mg Glucosamine and 200mg Chondroitin for her weight which is 28lbs) I asked the vet could I use Human grade pills. He said yes the substances are exactly the same. The human ones are much cheaper than veterinary ones! So I bought a huge pack of the pills at reduced price for bulk buy.
Avatar n tn Whoops - yes, Glucosamine with Chondroitin. There are some formulas that include MSM in them too.
Avatar f tn Im having pain in the L4 L5 area in my spine. It hurts to walk. Would glucosamine chondroitin help with the oain ? If so, how much do I take? What is the dosage amount ?
Avatar n tn NSAIDS (Rimadyl, Metacam, Previcox, and others), plus Tramadol, and Amantadine, and Chondroprotective agents (Glucosamine and Chondroitin combinations). Acupuncture is also very effective, as is Stem Cell therapy. She should also be checked for Lyme disease and other tick borne disease that affect joints. All her painful joints should be X-Rayed because some joints may require surgical correction or stabilization. .
Avatar n tn I do know the Glucosamine/Chondroitin Tablets Double Strength 3 a day have helped my knee arthritis a little bit. I do see a difference if I stop taking it. I have not had any back pain, but I am having pain down the front of my leg and cannot lift it or the pain goes into my groin. Everyone is telling me that its from my back being unaligned, even if it does not hurt. It is expensive, and its up to you if you want to try it.
6669309 tn?1462648142 Hi. Arthritis is very common in older dogs and the longer dogs live the more common it is becoming. Nutritional supplements Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate are two substances that have fast become the standard treatment in canine age-related arthritis. These are often sold as a single combined substance in good pet shops and quality supermarkets. Alternatively, just look up "Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate for dogs" on Google and you should find a supplier.
1093971 tn?1257833640 How pure are the ingredients? If you’re considering taking glucosamine with chondroitin you have another ballgame. Since you didn’t ask about the latter I’ll stick to glucosamine by itself. If you search the Internet you’ll see inconclusive evidence of glucosamine having negative effects on blood sugar. The consensus, however, is CAUTION and only take glucosamine under the supervision of your doctor, especially if you have diabetes.
Avatar f tn I was on twice a day anti-inflammatory salve (diclofenac) for my knuckles for a year, and then tried chondroitin and glucosamine capsules [based on my finding an excellent double blind study testing them against a placebo].
Avatar f tn Yes I am currently giving her 750 mg glucosamine + 600 mg chondroitin + 500 mg MSM, but it still doesn't seem to help. I am going to look into the adequan injections. Thank You so much!
Avatar f tn Glucosamine/ Chondroitin/ MSM is generally used when there is suspected arthritis. The supplement is used to help the body make more cartilage, and to reduce pain; in the knee for example. There is controversy as to how helpful this supplement is in improving arthritic knee pain, but some patients do report benefit with long-term use.
Avatar m tn Hello and hope you are doing well. If the Baker's cyst is restricting movement it may need to be surgically corrected. For the arthritis conservative measures are weight loss, rest, ice, canes, bracing, physical therapy. etc. Also, nutrition supply should be considered, with chondroprotective agents (glucosamine & chondroitin phosphate, MSM, Omega-3). Glucosamine and chondroitin phosphate are unlikely to cause any drug to drug interactions with your other medications.
Avatar m tn The vet said we could expect that she might develop arthritis in it. I started her on Glucosamine/Chondroitin (500/200mg respectively, daily as she was approx. 30lbs) And I kid you not -she never favoured that leg again. It took about a week to see some definite improvement. She never limped on it again for the rest of her life. I have heard of Glucosamine not being effective though -not so much in dogs as in humans. A friend of mine with arthritis said it didn't help him at all.
Avatar f tn Firstly you could start him on Glucosamine and Chondroitin supplement. It really does help. You hear that the dog has to have taken it for a few weeks for there to be any noticeable change, but I have found it can take effect quicker than that. To give you an idea of dosage, my dog weighs 28lbs and I give her 500mg Glucosamine, and 200mg Chondroitin daily. If his weight is twice hers, or approximately, you can give double that dose.
Avatar n tn Can I perhaps supplement it with additional glucosamine (no chondroitin)? Maybe the chondroitin is upsetting his stomach. I've ordered Si Maio San to start with and will slowly introduce the other recommended Chinese medicines above one by one. Can he continue to take Forsythia 18 indefinitely? It seems to be normalizing his inner ear equilibrium and balance but he's only taking half the recommended dosage.
