Common Questions and Answers about Gas causing chest discomfort

gas

Avatar f tn I find that my pain level would be a 10, if I am experiencing gas discomfort (from not eating on time, or ingesting a gas producing food) , but, my pain level would generally be on a pain scale of 4-6 (daily). My Doctor did an EKG back in May. She also indicated that since the pain is on the right side, she is not too concern. She stated that it is a possible muscle strain. What can I do?
Avatar m tn The issues are much worse whenever I try to do aerobic exercise, unless I can do it on a completely empty stomach, the gas pushes up into my chest and causes significant discomfort. Immediately when I jump in the water to swim, I feel the gas pushing upward (buoyancy). It causes such discomfort than I can't do these activities. After a long while, I'll burp maybe 5 times in a row, and I'll feel fine.
Avatar m tn if you survived a stress test with no discomfort, then I would bet a lot of money on your heart being fine. If there is a problem with the heart it is most likely to happen when you are exercising. gas can cause all kinds of nasty pains because the digestive tract basically swells when the gas is trapped. It then presses on all kinds of nerves in the body causing pain. In our digestive system we have a lot of friendly bacteria which digests food that we can't break down ourselves.

915370 tn?1243161080 5 inches, that is where there is discomfort. To best describe the discomfort.... it is like having that sharp pain after bad hiccups... yet if gas leaves one of two entry ways (I burp or ...... eherm) then I feel slightly better, however even as I speak the pain persists. I am wondering if it is something of concern. -To note, I have had quite a few panic attacks (GAD, Depression) in the past 1.5 months, approximately one attack per 3 days.

Avatar f tn Another possibility is hiatal hernia, where a portion of stomach herniates into the chest cavity through the diaphragm. This along with chest discomfort cause shortness of breath too. These two conditions can also cause pain in the left shoulder region. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please discuss these possibilities with your doctor. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar f tn Then on Sunday 7/24 I started experiencing terrible chest heaviness/discomfort, like a bloating air/gas feeling when laying down, walking etc. I kept fluids in me and every time I belched it would relieve some discomfort for a very short time but it would hurt every time I belched. Then it seemed like the air/gas continued to be there. I seem to handle it more during the daytime hrs. but around 4pm or so it starts to really bother me. I thought by now, with it being Wed.

Avatar m tn I have been feeling some unusual chest, and neck discomfort and wonder if not being able to burp and having too much gas build up is what's causing my discomfort.
Avatar f tn If I sleep on my side or stomach the pain will move to the high point in my abdominal area like a gas. If I sleep on my back with my head elevated I can mostly prevent any pain. I still burp and pass gas more than a normal amount during the day. If I even lie down or invert my body in any way I can feel the uncomfortableness almost immediately start to build. I’m a 26 year old male. Although I’ve managed to deal with this, it’s been long enough where I feel it may never just go away on its own.
Avatar m tn Yesterday i also went to a walkin clinic and he said that my chest sounds clear and its probably a virus. I wanted to know if a virus could cause this kind of chest discomfort with stomach symptoms? I dont have any other cold or flu symptoms like runny nose, watery eyes, sore throat... im scared it might be something more serious than a virus.
Avatar n tn At times due to too empty stomach or drinking lots of water before exercising can also cause breathlessness. Since you have a chest discomfort, angina, heart attack and pulmonary embolism should be ruled out. If there is wheezing, asthma is likely. If there is cough, chronic obstructive disease or asbestos, silica etc pollution as the cause is likely. Other causes are mitral valve problems, pulmonary hypertension, anemia, hyperventilation syndrome or psychological factors.
Avatar m tn Hi, I am suffering from severe pain and discomfort in the chest for 7 years. When I got this for the first time, I thought I will die because of the gas coming up into my chest area and pain. I used to barp 500 to 1000 times a day. I was unable to breathe properly for 3 days. I went to so many hospitals and no one was able to find the exact problem.
Avatar m tn First, hopefully you are discussing your medication changes with your doctor and not performing these independently. Secondly, there are many causes of chest discomfort after CABG thru a median sternotomy including local wound problems at the healing ridge of sternal bone. It is unusual for Lipitor to cause isolated chest discomfort. Discuss your symptoms with your cardiologist or CT surgeon who should examine your sternum thoroughly.
Avatar n tn Well, I never stayed on top of it and now I have some thickening of my esophagus which is causing some of my discomfort. I also have developed an allergy to either eggs or chicken, causing much discomfort. (Jury is still out as to which one) The twitching might be caused by the stress on your back muscles caused bu the arthritis, but a rheumatologist is the one you should see about it. Since your cardiac work-up came up okay, my guess is the chest pain radiated from your back problem.
Avatar n tn Another possibility is hiatal hernia, where a portion of stomach herniates into the chest cavity through the diaphragm. Both can cause a discomfort in the chest area, burning, heaviness etc. Irritation of the left diaphragm due to acidity causing stomach distension or due to the hernia can cause hiccups. Fatty food, alcohol etc too can cause hiccups. In GERD, hiccup is body’s mechanism to prevent choking.
Avatar m tn You could try drinking something carbonated which will cause you to burp and hopefully help you get rid of some of the gas causing you such anxiety. There are some OTC remedies like GasX you could try or talk with the pharmacist about his/her recommendations. If nothing works, you should see your doctor to figure out why you can't seem to expel the gas.
Avatar f tn You note upper GI discomfort (burning in the chest area) radiating to the back, bloating, gas, as well as hyperthyroidism. The pain is brought on by eating. The GI symptoms are known as dyspepsia - simply defined as upper GI discomfort. Causes can include an ulcer, inflammation of the stomach and esophagus, GERD, or cancer. Other potential causes include gall bladder diseases or pancreatitis. You stated you are interested in non-invasive tests.

Avatar f tn Then I shall give you the reassurance you are seeking, as will everyone else here! You had coffee. (A delicious substance many of us need but is well know for it's ability to upset the digestive track and to contribute to anxiety) You got gas. You burped, You felt better. You were "rushing around." You felt out of breath. You stopped and took some very deep breaths.
