If I remember correctly one of the drug companies just came out with a single pill that has both Flomax and Avodart in it. Just for your understanding, Flomax will give you relieve in just an hour or two so you can pee freely, but does not reduce the prostate size much(which is the the long term goal) where as Avodart slowly reduces the prostate size over months. Obviously, two two together will give you the best outcome.
I take Mirlax to help with constipation. About once a week I have a decent bowel movement, but can't quite get it all out. This causes me to leek stool through out the next couple of days when I bend over or sometimes just when I walk up stairs. When I reported this to my Neurologist he sent me to a Urologist, who now has me taking 0.8 mg of Flomax which has helped me to empty out my bladder. I plan on seeing a GI doctor next. Any input or suggestions to help would be really appreciated.
Peppers, alcohol, and other strong foods can irritate the prostate and the urinary tract, so try to avoid them if you think this is causing your problem. Another cause of irritation is constipation and hard stools, which press against the bladder and prostate. Take a stool softener and drink more water if you have hard stools. Take saw palmetto if told to do so by a doctor; this helps with minor prostate enlargement (BPH), but does not treat infections or anything else.

52 yr old male HX: Diverticulitis,Asthma Meds: Prednisone asthma, miralax, flomax, theodur asthma Started having LLQ abdominal pain (no tenderness) one week ago today. Saw my PCP on Thursday, he said that he thought the pain was due to spasm in the colon..... RX Levsin. Didn't take the Levsin because I was worried about negative impact on BPH, and asthma. Over the past seven weeks I've been to three urologists (the first one was assigned by the ER), the doctor mentioned earlier and my primary care physican, but so far they seem to be treating the only the symptom and not aiming for the actual problem - any advice would be greatly appreciated because they're convinced Flomax will help! I'd be remiss to mention that the ER attending physician twice asked me, "Are you sure you weren't diagnosed with any disease?
I am a 30-yr old female who has recently been diagnosed with bladder retention. My current urologist doesnt know how it started or why it will not clear up. I've been going through this for 1 month now and I am very frustrated and depressed. I was in the hospital a month ago diagnosed with bowel obstruction. The doctors also stated that I have a great deal of scare tissue and endometreosis(not correct spelling of word). I would like to know could the ladder cause me to not urinate.

also - beware of constipation! Constipation is what just brought my symptoms back. Do your stretches, find a good physical therapist/masseuse and believe in yourself. This is a LIFESTYLE change, this is a life long fight that you must engage in. I'm actually back in pain right now because I've slacked on my stetches and posture, and working on it.
My new Ms doctor put me on Flomax and what a difference it has made! I do not have to go 100 times during the day. Not really but it seemed that much. I can actually pass urine now. What a pleasent change that is. I know this medication is for men but it has been approved for use in women with MS. It has been a great help to me.
Both possible related to neurontin...?. Arm pain is most common symptom, as well as fatigue. Chronic constipation. I have had a recent stess in my life which has increased my fatigue, anxiety, and I have been having irritability issues, for no reason. I feel terrible like my mental health is declining. Physically I am very tired often. I have recently cut down my hours at work and I hope that helps. I have difficulty concentrating, focusing, and with handling my demands.
The MRI for the cervical spine did find a right posterolateral C5-6 disk herniation that mildly contacts and flattens the ventral cord extending to the proximal right C5-6 foramen. I was on flomax/avodart for 7 months with no change in urinary habits. His recommendation is for a procedure…TUMT/TUIP or TURP. I recently went to another doctor for a second opinion. The results (history/tests) from the first doctor were forwarded to the second doctor.

Hey all, I found this article on the web in one of the expert forums. It goes into quite a bit of details, I cannot vouch for how correct they are, so if there is any doc here, they could verify. the information sounds very correct and might be of help to one and all. This is an answer to a person called Mike who's question was this : Hello! Thank you for your time, Im mike, a 15 year old male from Ohio. I tried to massage the prostate because I read it was the male G-spot.
And the usual side effects from such a med - even doubled - were minimal. Not much of a dry mouth nor much constipation. This was a sparkle from the med box that I didn't mind. Suddenly, I was sick. Indescribably sick - literally - I couldn't describe it. My whole head was about to crack open, my skin felt tight and hot, yet the movement of air from a fan was horridly painful and uncomfortable. I was nauseated. My head roared.
Coreg (beta blocker), Plavix, Lasix (diuertic for fluid in legs and lungs), Digoxin (to improve pumping ability of the heart, magnesium oxide, daily aspirin, darvocet for pain, Diovan for hypertension, Allopurinol for gout, Flomax for prostate/urinary, Miralax for constipation that is caused from all the drugs, Megace for appetite stimulant because some of these drugs will reduce appetite, Breathing Treatments - Spiriva/Brovana, Duoneb.
These are harmless to use as the bladder muscle is unique in its kind and can therefor easily be targetted. Constipation and faecal impactation make the issue worse also and can result in soiling if it goes on for too long. Unless the child has an unusual diet, these are usually caused by the child getting into the habit of holding on too long and ignoring the brain telling them they have to poo.

Many have been put on beta blockers like Flomax as well to ensure that the prostate is relaxed and therefore makes urination more efficient. Using this medication does what it is supposed to do but also relaxes the sphyncter. As Dr. Singh mentioned there are meds that can be tried but they all have their side effects. These meds also do not have the same effects on every person. So the medications might work OK on one person when the next person is not at all effected.
5 days ago, my doctor started me on a test run of Flomax. Mind you, I have no urinary symptoms whatsoever. Not particularly frequent, no pain in that area, no burning....pretty much normal. Prostate seems normal (I'm a male in my mid 40s). Anyhow, the Doc said it was a longshot but maybe it is prostate related. So for 5 days now I've woken with absolutely no flank pain whatsoever.
mitral valve prolapse (no meds), hypothyroidism (synthroid), depression (Wellbutrin), anxiety (Xanax--occasionally), and recurrent UTIs for which I'm on a maintenance antibiotic and flomax---just in case that provides any clues. Oh... and I HAVE been very stressed over the last few years, to the point where I've been concerned it might affect my health.
Only the Alpha Blockers worked, of which there are several types, Tamsulosin (Flomax), Doxazosin, Terazosin and others. I'm not in a relationships right now, but I do also dread having to strip off in front of a woman, when I do find one. I guess I'll have to take the alpha blockers or Viagra beforehand. Doctors don't have a clue about this. I have asked several Urologists, and they just say it's normal !
