I'm getting ready to try muscle relaxers (flexeril? soma?) -- any experience out there? Has anyone transitioned from an anti-anxiety med (e.g., low dose ativan) for sleep to a muscle relaxer?? Curious....
What I say below may work for some people, nothing works the same universally, but I thought I'd share in case it even helped 1 person. as of Day 9 my sleeping returned to normal and I no longer had to an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>takean> Flexeril to sleep after the first week. Things I think that helped - avoiding caffeine after my 1 morning cup and I've been avoiding sugary stuff. I also exercise before 7pm so I'm not amped up from the exercise when trying to go to bed. I never nap, even if I'm tired.

Have an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> tried Soma? It's a central acting muscle relaxer like Zanaflex. I an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>takean> Soma and Flexeril and Soma is far better for me. Flexeril makes me feel very apathetic and tired. Soma does not have that effect on me.
One thing I found that helped me during some of the worst parts was Benadryl. I helps an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> sleep, and will relax an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> some during the day. It doesn't help much with that "feeling", but it an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>takean>s some anxiety away. Drink lots of water, an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>takean> the "recipie" if an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> want, some swear by it, for me it didn't do anything, and I was sick of taking pills altogether, so I threw the stuff away. I only kept the Multivitamins. Hot baths before bed help, so do showers.
as for Soma, I would stay far away from that. I've heard it is very addictive. I'm not sure about Flexeril and how addictive that is. My boyfriend an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>takean>s one a night for neck pain and finds it helpful. The doctor didn't mention anything about it being addictive, and she usually does. For an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan>r back, are an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> taking 800 mg. ibuprofen (though make sure an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> protect an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan>r stomach with Prilosec or something.) also, ThermaCare back patches are great.

I don't sleep well at nights because my legs and arms would feel restless. I an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>takean> neurontin and Flexeril at nights to help me alittle bit. I'm wondering how long will I experience this? Im afraid that I would become dependent on those medications. Thanks!
)It is hard to sleep with the hard collar on, so I an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>takean> a Benadryl to sleep.as well. I have had some headaches and some incisional pain but I was warned that would be the case.If an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> wear glasses, be careful because an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>canan>'t look down and may walk into something an fall. (I wear contacts, so this is not a problem.) It really helps to have a good support system.
Thanks for all an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan>r comments and advice, I appreciate it! I called my doc today and he's phoning in a scrip for Zofran and Flexeril, so hopefully those will give me some relief with nausea and muscle pain. I'm looking into options for sleep....melatonin hasn't been strong enough, Benadryl makes me groggy in the morning, and apparently I sleepwalk (and sleep-cook and sleep-clean) on ambien, so that's out! Figuring out ways to deal with sides has definitely kept me on my toes!

barbie I have an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>takean>n Ultram, Ultracet, Effxor, Neurontin, Lyrica, Flexeril and pain meds. all had side effects or made me sick because of UC and IBS. Right now only doing 5mils of Fexeril at night, 20 mils of Tranxene 3 times daily and tylenol. Helping with sleep problems, eases pain just a bit and keeps me calm. Problem though is sleepy, loopy minded, and balance is bad. If an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> do not have stomach problems Flexeril might help an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> if an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>takean> several doses daily.
Most sleep specialists warn that Benadryl an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>canan> have some adverse effects on REM stage sleep. My neurologist suggested Flexeril or Zanafelx as better choices. I typically reach for 10 mg of Valium.
I have been having panic attacks, mood swings and nightmares lately and I am really scared. I work full time overnights and sleep during the day. I an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>canan>'t an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>takean> any time off of work so I am basically looking for the easy way out. I am not even sure if I am taking enough to be addicted. at this point, I am more afraid of w/d symptoms than I want to quit. any thoughts or advice on this?

ambien(Zolpidem) Lunesta(Eszopiclone) Sonata(Zaleplon) Imovane(Zopiclone) also to be avoided are muscle relaxants like Soma and flexeril. they are not only addictive, but they will make an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> behave like a monkey and then not remember it later. If an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan>'re actively abusing opiates aND taking Benzos/hypnotics/muscle relaxants, then an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> are basically getting down on an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan>r hands and knees and begging for an overdose.
I also got melatonin and Benadryl and took massive quantities of those to help sleep. I now only an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>takean> Benadryl every once in a while to sleep. an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>canan> do this! It really ***** for about 2 weeks and then it gets better! I promise. Molly P.S. I started taking Trazadone for sleep and it is giving me headaches. I cut it from 150 mg to 75 mg and that helped some. Will the headaches eventually go away?
If an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> absolutetly need something I think that flexeril is an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan>r best option. I used it and an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> are right, it just puts me to sleep which might be what an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> need. Of course, don't drive while taking it...an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> know the routine...Good luck!
Soma and flexeril are boyh muscle relaxers.
