1427077 tn?1282913207 I have a lump on the top joint of my index finger which has been there for about 2 months now. Sometimes its sore but now always & its starting to get bigger. Is it worth getting it checked out?
Avatar f tn Back in january this year (2011) I broke the end of my left pinky finger. The first surgery was a disaster, the finger was now dislocated! The 2nd surgery (july 2011 at a different hospital!) was a arthrodesis of my left pinky end joint to fix the dislocation (the fracture healed on its own). Now I have a pin in my finger. The pin is only visable on an x-ray as it is internal. Will this type of pin be removed? If so when/how?
Avatar f tn I dislocated my PIP joint on my ring finger 2 weeks ago. It was reduced at the hospital and I went to the hand clinic 24 hours later. They said it was doing ok and I didn't need to go back unless there was a problem with it. I was told to keep it buddy strapped for 2 weeks. I now have the buddy strapping off. The finger isn't that painful unless I bump the joint accidentally. I'm a little concerned as I can't fully straighten it or bend it more than halfway.
Avatar n tn A person deliberately grabbed my index finger and forcibly wrenched it. The force applied was roughly perpendicular to the direction of joint movement, though slightly inwards as I recall. X-rays revealed at least one small fracture (probably along the side, not sure). The injury only seems to affect the middle PIP joint. It hurts when I press on the sides and bottom of the joint. The tendon along the top appears undamaged. Most of the swelling subsided 2-3 weeks after the injury.
478554 tn?1208034407 When I tried to bend my middle finger, I feel the joint movement not smooth, kind of snap and bounce like a toggle switch. I am unable to fold and curl my middle finger back to touch my palm, like trying to hold a fist. When I put my finger in hot water, the joint movement is smoother and less painful. I am taking Glucosamine Hydrochloride (1500mg) plug MSN (methylsulfonylmethane 1500mg) daily, but showing no help. My doctor has X-ray and blood test for Rheumatoid Arthritis.
Avatar m tn I have treated twice for Hep C once for 15 mo standard Interferon and Rib, second time for 7 mo with addition of Alinia stopping Jan of 09. I have severe loss of finger joint movement in both hands. started 3 or 4 months after final treatment. My ortho guy doesn't see any structural damage or signs of arthritis .Could there be tie to the Hep C or treatment??
Avatar m tn If only a small portion was involved and tendons were unaffected, recovery may be near normal; however if the joint was involved, the distal inter-phalangeal joint may not be rendered capable of movement. It would be best to discuss the expected prognosis in detail with your treating orthopedician. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar n tn In 2004 I broke by PIP joint in my pinky finger during a basketball game. I had surgery about a week later and had a pin put in. I then started physical therapy a few days later. From day one I was not able to bend the PIP joint at all. I thought this was due to the fact that I just had surgery. 7 years later I am not able to bend the PIP joint at all. It is basically in a straight line with no movement. My DIP joint won't staighten.
Avatar n tn the injury occured in the middle joint, joint that is above the knuckle. However on the inside of this joint (facing the middle finger) it looks bulged or rounded. I traced my finger over it and it is definitely rounded and very hard. I know the joints are naturally a bit roundish on the outside but this is large compared to the ring finger on my right hand. Also looking at it you can see the bulging. I was wondering if this is bone or a bone I was feeling?
Avatar m tn t been able to move that index finger for 4 weeks since the pins were still in there, as any movement in that finger caused extreme pain...but now my index finger seems to be stuck in that same position (slightly curved, as if holding a cup). I started OT the Thursday after the pins were removed, but I couldn't do half the tendon gliding exercises as I could not make a fist.
Avatar n tn t loose movement in that finger. Just last month I got full movement back...so it could take a while. Hope all goes well!
Avatar f tn Last year in July I hurt my ring finger on my right hand. It was due to catching a ball which struck the finger. I had pain throughout the finger, couldn't bend the joint closest to the finger nail. Xrays were taken at the ER and they suspected a crack on top of the joint that is located above the knuckle and also to the inside of this same joint (facing the middle finger). I did see my family doctor a week later and another xray was taken.
Avatar m tn This flared up about a month and a half ago, and is in the middle joint of my right index finger, the PIP joint. It has gone through cycles of being almost normal to....like today- more swollen and painful than ever. The joint is tight, painful, and has a good amount of fluid over the knuckle. It is a sausage-like finger now. Warming it and slowly working it get some movement back for the day. There seems no rhyme or reason for what flares it up.
Avatar m tn Ouch, I play piano and some guitar - I totally understand the dilemma. I'd be inclined to simply continue to try/try/try/try/try and hope that as your grip improves as will movement of the finger. This - not knowing the specifics of your condition however - I'd be prone to check with your specialist just to make sure that you're not agitating the condition or making things worse.
1524304 tn?1326396974 I heard a really loud crack in the joint of little finger and terrible pain. It lasted only for a while but now when I touch the joint it has some mild tenderness and when I try to bend it at certain point I can feel slight pain. There wasn't any swelling, at least not noticeably. So I'm just wondering because there was an incident with stubbing toe and now I believe I cracked it then (several years ago).
Avatar m tn Hi all, i have had aching cramp type pain in my left and right hands for 5 weeks now, after 2 weeks the middle joint in my 3rd finger left hand felt like it had something in it, tight for a bit when i get up in the morning lasts about 5 minutes or so still have full movement can feel slight tenderness when i press on it. or i feel tension on it if i make a fist, no visible swelling and dosent look red or anything.
Avatar m tn Recovery on track except my ring and pinky finger are clawed now, hurts to attempt any movement. Xray showed joint fusing, my Dr wants to give me cortisone in the pinky, I am not a fan of cortisone but, i'll give it a try. any ideas why this is happening? Since surgery I have developed a bump in the palm of the same hand.
Avatar f tn A day or two later I had lost movement in my thumb and index finger. I still have not gained movement in them. I went to the movement disorder clinic to run some tests and it came back yesterday with mild carpal tunnel syndrome. The doctor who read the results was not the original doctor that I saw, and when I explained ot him what the prblem was, he said it was not carpal tunnel syndrome and that I seem to have two issues.

Avatar n tn Hi, Pianists usually develop median and ulnar nerve neuropathies due to the constant movement of finger and strain on the wrist joint. These neuropathies are usually seen in professional pianists and usually improve with rest. Physical therapy and neurontin usually relieve symptoms if the neuropathy is advanced.
Avatar n tn specifically, the two finger joints of the pinky, the top joint of the ring finger, the central joint of the middle finger and sometimes the knuckle and central joint of the index finger. My thumb's central joint can be popped but causes no pain or tightness. Pressing my hand flat on a surface and forcing it to remain there causes tightness at the wrist and I can feel what can only be described as a 'spring effect' at the knuckles when I release.
Avatar f tn I also have the same thing going on at the same time with my left upper arm (not left joint or neck) but it is just an ache, I have free movement and the left side is not causing pain, just an ache, sometimes I will wake through the night and my ring finger and little finger will feel numb and tingly in my left hand.
Avatar n tn About one month ago, the largest knuckle on my index finger(the joint on the actual finger, not the one connecting to hand) swelled up, became stiff and painful. No injury happened prior, nor can I remember a significant one in my life.It is sharply painful when I press between the joint nad on the sides of it. In the last month, it has been both worse and better. Last week it was 90% to be fine in regards to pain and movement. Yesterday it wet to worse than ever.
Avatar f tn I have hard knots on both sides of 1st joint on several fingers. they are there always but sometimes get bigger and hurt so bad I can't hold a pen o write or even bend the 1st joints. Rhuem dr said this is OA. Does anyone know if it will get worse or spread to other fingers? I do not take meds for OA due to medical conditions I have I can't take anti-inflamatories or advil, motrin, etc. Dr is not interested in discussing OA only fibro and I need answers. Thank you.
Avatar m tn I cut my finger pretty badly about two months ago. I didn't go to a doctor because I don't like to and also because I didn't realize how badly it was cut at the time. In any event, it should have healed by now. It was a clean cut across the inside of the right middle knuckle that went to the bone. It has healed to some extent, but I was checking it earlier and found that when I tried to bend it very far the scar turned bright red as if blood was welling just beneath the skin.
Avatar f tn Hey, I have had the worst joint pain this last week. Like it is in my finger joints, my knees, my elbows, my toes... I have never had anything like this before and I am only nineteen years old. It literally feels like I have arthritis lol. I have no pain in my muscles or anywhere else...only my joints. I've noticed that I mostly feel it when I wake up in the morning or am coming off of oc. Has this happened to you guys? Do you think it is just because of the oc? Or something more serious?
