Finger joint replacement surgery

Common Questions and Answers about Finger joint replacement surgery

finger

Avatar f tn I had surgery to repair tendon in ring finger two weeks ago. First off the incisions made were way more than I expected, it went from middle of my palm to til bout 1/2 inch from tip of finger on both top and bottom, Dr said he had to pt two pins in my finger. Now I'm told I will have to have joint replacement due to extensive damage to my knuckles and joints. The pain and swelling are horrible and I can not move nor feel my ring finger still. Is this normal for tendon damage being repaired?
Avatar f tn If total wrist fusion and elbow joint replacement (same arm - dominant) have been recommended, which surgery would ideally come first?
Avatar n tn SINCE HAVING KNEE REPLACEMENT SURGERY IN MARCH 2009 I HAVE HAD SEVERE HEEL PAIN. NO ONE HAS FOUND THE CURE. THIS INCLUDES THE KNEE SURGEON, A PAIN DOCTOR, A FOOT DOCTOR AND A NEUROSURGEON.
Avatar f tn Back in 1973 & 1974, at age 19, I had both kneecaps removed due to Chondromalacia Patella. I wasn't given replacement parts. Now as a 62 female, I find myself walking with a cane and my left knee is extremely painful. I consulted with 2 orthopedic MDs. The first one wanted to do joint replacement surgery. The second one said I am not a candidate for joint replacement surgery since I don't have kneecaps. He prescribed diclofenac potassium for the pain.
Avatar m tn I had hip replacement surgery three months ago. In the last month or so I have been troubled by insomnia. I wake up most nights after a couple of hours of sleep. I have no pain or discomfort. Several patients at the physical therapist who had hip or knee surgery had similar experiences. One woman who had knee surgery six months ago is still experiencing insomnia. Is there a connection between the surgery and insomnia and how can it be treated? I do not want to take any medications.
Avatar f tn I had a total shoulder replacement in September 2008. The first week or so after the surgery were definitely the worst pain wise. I also noticed a difference to the good with the pain level after my staples were removed. The actual staple removal process was quite uncomfortable, but once they were out, it helped things a little. Be very diligent about doing what and ONLY what your surgeon tells you you are allowed.
Avatar m tn Injections like Synvisc act as a supplement to the normal joint fluid and help in joint lubrication during the joint motion. They are usually given to delay the joint replacement surgeries. However, it does not replace the joint with the "normal" joint fluid since it is absorbed and cleared from the joint within a week (hence you have to take it every week). I would not say that it is totally useless since there have been observed benefits of this injection in some patients.
Avatar m tn Hi, Little amount of joint mobility noise does occur after a joint replacement as most of the times its made of metal. If you have no pain, local rise of temperature or mobility problems, you could wait for your regular appointment.
Avatar f tn After a successful total knee replacement surgery you would need to follow up for physiotherapy very intensely and regularly or else the surgery will not succeed. With regular physiotherapy most of your pain from surgery should decrease by a month and the rest of your pain should be gone by 3 months. There can be some nagging pain but by regular physiotherapy your quadriceps will increase in strength and your pain will decrease if all other parameters are normal.
Avatar f tn Interestingly, the more movement of the ankle that there is before the joint replacement surgery, the more will exist later. If a patient has no motion or very poor motion of the ankle before surgery, we can improve this, but not nearly as much.
Avatar f tn We went to a doctor earlier who asked us to get an MRI and suggested that he might need a surgery. My Dad wants to avoid the joint replacement surgery and so he went for the Nerve Block treatment. I have seen his x-ray and the AVN looks pretty bad. He got the first injection yesterday and says he has been feeling better and said that he could walk in the morning but limps otherwise. I can literally hear his bones crack as he walks, he needs my support for walking.
Avatar f tn I also am looking at having to have additional joints replaced - both knees and at least my right ankle. The idea of joint replacement surgery was very scary for me - especially since when I had my shoulder done I was "relatively young" - age 45 - but I do feel it was definitely the right decision.
Avatar f tn The doctor expressed a concern doing joint surgery until I rule out inflammatory breast cancer via breast biopsy. Is this right, I have one day to decide. I really need an expert opinion.
Avatar f tn It is rough surgery and the recovery time is extensive - as with any joint replacement - if you decide to do the surgery, be sure to follow all pre and post op instructions as far as PT and limitations as to how much you can use the affected arm. Have you tried or discussed cortisone injections in the shoulder? For me, they did not help, but it could be different with you if you and your doctor would like to try it before proceeding to surgery. Best of luck!
Avatar n tn I would not think having HSV2 would affect the recovery of Hip Replacement Surgery, although you may experience slightly more outbreaks which would be quite common while your body was undergoing stress of Surgery and recovery, since Herpes is viral and not bacterial I wouldn't think it would cause any particular problems,it's a very interesting question though and I am keen to see other Members views on this and am happy to stand corrected if I am wrong.
Avatar n tn In 2004 I broke by PIP joint in my pinky finger during a basketball game. I had surgery about a week later and had a pin put in. I then started physical therapy a few days later. From day one I was not able to bend the PIP joint at all. I thought this was due to the fact that I just had surgery. 7 years later I am not able to bend the PIP joint at all. It is basically in a straight line with no movement. My DIP joint won't staighten.
Avatar n tn what are my chances of getting better and not having to have a hip replacement? This discussion is related to weakness in legs.
Avatar f tn When i was 11 a girl broke my right index finger at school and no one believed me when I said it was broken. So obviously it wasn't splinted or even buddy tapped. In the eight grade my mom took me to a doctor that told her that my finger did break and that the bone healed eight degrees off. After six months of trying to buddy tape it and splint it, the bone only moved two degrees. The doctor recommended surgery to pin and straighten out the bone and my mom decided on getting me the surgery.

Avatar f tn My surgery is in 3 weeks.I realize you can not tell me if I need surgery or not but I would like you thought on this.Thank You so much Dr.
606078 tn?1247264553 I was wondering about maybe having a joint replacement section here at medhelp. This site has been a Godsend for me and to have a place to talk and vent not only about the Fibro and chronic pain, but to have a joint replacement discussion would be wonderful. Just a thought....
Avatar f tn If these fail then you go for surgery. Joint replacement surgery may be required. Individuals with very painful OA joints may require surgery such as fragment removal, repositioning bones, or fusing bone to increase stability and reduce pain. Arthroscopic surgical intervention for osteoarthritis of the knee have been found to be no better than placebo at relieving symptoms. So discuss all the pros and cons with your surgeon and every case differs from the other. Take care!
Avatar m tn Wish you had received an answer I have the same symptom. Index finger near the joint with a burning sensation, not when touching it but when carrying a plastic shopping bag or when my purse handles lay across the finger between the first and middle knuckle.
