This is really hard for me to answer. Typically rehab lasts up to 4 to 6 weeks but that also depends on the progress. I am sure your husband also has his own opinion regarding this matter as well.
My family and are looking into doing an intervention with my 53 year old sister. She talks about trying to quit, but we know she cannot do it alone. We do not have thousands of dollars to send her to a medical detox center. If she agrees, we will be bringing her to our home which is in a different state. We are well aware of how painful this process can be as we have all witnessed it once before when she came to visit and took all of her pills in 3 days.

Now we have had her in a rehab center for 3 weeks and she has been detoxed and sober now for over a week. The real work and therapy has begun. The doctors say there is a big difference between sober and recovered. We have spent countless hours in family therapy and learning how to change things when she gets out so that nothing can cause one of her triggers to make her want to take again. This has been the hardest thing our family has done but we decided that she was worth every effort.

Then in treatment, with a counselor, I spoke of when I started using drugs, and alcohol and why? Family of origin was discussed. You talk about whether your family of origin contributed to your using. In my case, this culminated in me writing letters to my family members, and how I felt with the way I grew up. How it affected me acting out. I then burnt the letters, and "let it go". My family refused the family sessions that were available. I could not control that.
Is detox necessary "before" entering a rehab center, if someone is on opiate?
My local health center is Lone Star Family Health Center in Conroe, Texas, and they have a directory of local family doctors serving Montgomery County, Texas. The directory includes photos, medical field, and a biography for each of the physicians. I find this information very helpful when I need to find a new family doctor, or a specialized physician.
Please keep encouraging her to move and try and comunicate with you anyway she can, with my son it started as blinking once for yes and twice for no and then progressed to barely legable writing and then finally he started to speak softly to us and as time went by louder so we can hear him. He went to the Brain Injury Rehab Center in Orlando FL and spent 3 weeks there and now he is at home with us and about to start outpatient rehab.
Watching Heidi Fleiss was really sad.. I saw her on celebrity rehab where she retreated to the desert with a bunch of parrots! It was so sad bc you could see how much pain she was in.

We do it in our hospital under medical supervision when is very hard levels or at Domus Retreat our center when in some cases. There are a number of ways to do it. Cold turkey ( that I do not suggest) , medically supervised, titrating or inpatients rehab.
In most case the withdrawal symptoms last anywhere from 3 to 5 days. If you can have medical assistance at least by phone in case you need it is always better.
I just got done a year long rehab center since coming off of drugs i've had problems with me stomach. i had black stool and thin stool my stomach makes weird sounds. i've been to the doctor he he's done blood work, stool samples and urine tests hes says i am fine. Since there is now colon cancer in my family he' thinks its my diet. I forgot to say i'm 26 years old.
I would recommend Al-Anon meetings, also most of the treatment centers have on site support for family counceling, as well as for the family members not in treatment. You might want to contact the center and see if they offer any of these services. You can find the number for Al-Anon information in the white pages of your telephone directory.

When I hit the bottom, it broke my nose, blacked my eye, and made my family hate me. On sub I regained trust from my family and my own ability to make good decisions. Just bearing witness, not giving advice. I lived in the streets of L.A., Bangkok, Hilo, Calcutta, etc...You can do it, but it is to your best interest or another rebel act like me? Please don't take offense, I just want you to know, you are not alone. Good luck and keep us posted.
Rehab people are now very pessimistic regarding his recovery, but he had been making progress before. We are concerned that they let him get dehydrated in the Rehab center and this has also caused some kidney issues as of today.
Has anyone had any experience with this type situation? Did clots resolve on their own?
Should we look at moving my dad to another hospital that deals more with stroke complications?
Should we be upset that he got dehydrated in rehab center?
You may want to plan a family intervention and confront your family member with your concerns and let them know that none of you plan on enabeling him/her. Find out what options you have ie. inpatient, out-patient, rehab specialist in your area and whatever resources you need as far as insurance, private pay ect. Present these options to them and let them know that you will support their attempts at recovery but not their continued abuse of drugs. Best of luck to you.
