Fainting on a plane

Common Questions and Answers about Fainting on a plane

fainting

Avatar f tn I have fainted on a plane three times during long journeys. It usually happens after waking up from a deep sleep. I wake up, start feeling sick to my stomach, get up to try and go to the restroom and then I pass out. My doctor says that I should elevate my legs abouve heart level. That is impossible on an airplane. has anybody out there experienced it and done anything about it. I do not have a heart condition, or thrombosis. My blood pressure is normally a little below the norm.
Avatar f tn Do you wear rx level thigh- or waist-high compression hosiery when you fly (such as 30-40 mmHg)? Are you on a salt- and fluid-loading regimen? Are you on a lower body exercise regimen to increase skeletal muscle return to your heart? All of these things contribute to better tolerance for upright position and pressure changes.
18860756 tn?1468945709 Last month I fainted in a crowded room while on a business trip. It was in Colorado so I believe it was a result of the high altitude and dehydration. A week later when I was back home, I started to feel funny while driving in traffic for an hour - my arms and legs were tingling, I felt weak and light-headed. I thought I was going to faint so I pulled over & called 911. I ended up not actually fainting but I felt all the symptoms of passing out.
Avatar f tn I am 15yo and at around 5:30 pm I started feeling sick after getting off a plane. I started getting these cramps which I thought were because of my period which is two days late. I went to the toilet and I was fine so I went back to wait for my suitcase and the pain came back but was worse. I started feeling dizzy, turned pale and fainted. Once I got to the hotel the cramps were still there and diarrhea started to occur.
168006 tn?1241012961 I was just curious if there is any problem with taking a newborn on a plane due to the pressure in the ears and all. Does anyone know? If so, at what age is air travel considered safe?
341190 tn?1295467125 Hi everyone, Last time i was on here was about 2 years ago, well so much has happened, firstly i was fitted with a loop recorder to try and find out what was happening when i fainted then my 17 year old daughter told me she was pregnant, shock wasent the word, i got used to the idea and was actually looking forward to it, she then found a lump in her breast when she was 8 months pregnant and had to go for a biopsy she obviously wanted mum with her so i dragged myself along, just as they were cut
Avatar n tn I got very lightheaded and dizzy. It felt like I was having a seizure and next thing i remember is waking up on the ground next to the toilet, with a busted lip and the whole right side of my face bruised.
Avatar f tn I believe a pacemaker has little, even no, effect on Atrial Flutter or Fibrillation. Thus, I conclude, it is reasonable to have an ablation when also using a pacemaker. I guess the pacemaker is there to keep your HR from falling too low, it will do nothing about any extra beats that come from the Flutter problem. Good luck, let us know how it goes. We can always use current experience on ablation work for more questions that will continue to come in.

Avatar f tn I am boarding a plane in 2 hours and i am 21 weeks pregnant with my miracle baby (i was told i couldnt conceive). Anyhow its a short 1hr and 30 min flight round trip but i am terrified it will hurt the baby or cause me to miscarry. I was fine until a coworker told me the pressure would hurt the baby.
Avatar f tn I flew early in my 3rd trimester. My doctor said after 32 weeks I couldn't travel by plane any longer. I wore compression stockings, drank tons of water and walked around the airport to help my circulation.
Avatar f tn I flew with my son at 4 months. I gate checked the stroller to go under the plane. I have never seen anyone allow a stroller to go on the plane. I think it's probably too big for the overhead bins. If you buy an extra ticket for your baby you should have no problem taking it on board with you.
167426 tn?1254086235 Hi Marty, Have a very safe trip to AZ. I know it'll be a rough time for you. Love on your kids and grandkids, remember fond memories of Les and celebrate Jesus' birthday. At least you'll be warmer.
Avatar n tn They moved him to an area on the plane where he could lay down. He still had a very strong urge to have a bowel movement and urinate. Once he was stable, they allowed him to go the bathroom. I would say it was a good 30 mins before he seemed ok...he was slightly ill on and off for the remainder of the flight (14 hrs), however, he was very sleepy. This really scared me. I thought he had a heart attack, stroke, etc....My husband is 38 years old, six feet one, and weighs about 240.
Avatar m tn What is your opinion? I was hit by a racquetball on the left side of my head on Saturday, had my eye examined on Sunday and again on Tuesday with dilation, no findings... but that Thursday I had a two hour flight, and it was during the flight that my symptoms began. I was diagnosed the next morning with PVD. Did the plane ride cause the PDV, or was it just a coincident?
1530342 tn?1405016490 Oh, I'd chew someone's arm off it they raised a hand to my baby or called him a name. That's ridiculous, obviously. I always feel sorry for the person holding the crying baby in that situation. I've been that person before. A straight backed hysterical baby. Whew, that was a rough ride. I've also been the person on a plane silently willing a baby to quiet down too.
Avatar f tn Has anyone been on a plane while being in the 2nd trimester? I will have to fly for a wedding... It is a 2 hour flight. Any tips or advice? Thanks!!!
Avatar f tn Wow. No I don't but I have a question for you. How often do, did you faint? What are some of your triggers? Did you have a particularly scary or embarrassing episode? I'm curious more than anything. I'm also curious about your assistance dog. What is he/she trained to do? Very interesting......
Avatar f tn Traveling with a newborn is pretty easy. Nurse on the way up and the way down. Use your seat for a changing table if the plane doesn't have one. I always brought a front carrier to keep baby in while flying.
Avatar n tn Hi, This has happened to me 4 or 5 times... you may have "vasovagal syncope" (situational fainting) and it's likely related to the low oxygen on the airplane... I usually get it after I've fallen asleep for a few minutes, on the way up (I've not gotten it on descent)-- you breathe more shallow when you sleep, so get even less oxygen (and it's low on airplanes to begin with). I wake up feeling sick, get up, and pass out near the bathroom (never usually actually sick).
Avatar m tn Nothing surprises anymore (I take that back. Last week I saw a bicycle chained to a Light Pole on my way to work. On the way home I noticed the tires had been stolen off of it while it was chained. That surprised me) If you find the article post it. I would like to read it.
1166456 tn?1417305537 The terms median plane or mid-sagittal plane are sometimes used to describe the sagittal plane running through the midline. This plane cuts the body into halves (assuming bilateral symmetry),[1] passing through midline structures such as the navel and spine. It is one of the lines defining the right upper quadrant of the human abdomen......
Avatar f tn Its fine up until close to the end of pregnancy when theres a chance you could go into labor. Dont want a baby born up in the air!
Avatar n tn Moderate to severe abdominal pain usually after a large or greasy meal.Left eye twitches before and after fainting spells as well as a right sided c-shaped headache that last no more then 20 min and starts behind right eye area.Any help or suggestions would be helpful. Been to a good handful of doctors the last 5 months and no answers.
