fainting

Avatar f tn Or if the blood vessels are weak or are over-expanded due to medication, blood flow is reduced and the amount of oxygen that can be dissolved and carried through the body is reduced. This condition is called stagnant or hypokinetic hypoxia. Thanks for the question, and if you have any follow-up questions you are welcome to respond. Hope this has given you an insight and perspective for your father's hypoxia. and I wish him well going forward.

Avatar n tn Hi, This has happened to me 4 or 5 times... you may have "vasovagal syncope" (situational fainting) and it's likely related to the low oxygen on the airplane... I usually get it after I've fallen asleep for a few minutes, on the way up (I've not gotten it on descent)-- you breathe more shallow when you sleep, so get even less oxygen (and it's low on airplanes to begin with). I wake up feeling sick, get up, and pass out near the bathroom (never usually actually sick).
Avatar f tn loss of oxygen and difficulty breathing. when my oldest daughter was 5 or 6 she started fainting but then it stopped as she grew older.
748618 tn?1233130901 Red blood cells transport oxygen. The red blood cell picks up oxygen in the lungs and transports it to where it is needed. Carbon monoxide "mimics" oxygen and has a stronger affinity for the red blood cell. When a red blood cell picks up the carbon monoxide it CANNOT transport oxygen. Worse yet, the affinity is so strong, the cell may not be available to transport blood for several days. The combination of low blood pressure and inability to transport oxygen spells trouble.
Avatar f tn Or if the level of oxygen or sugar in the blood decreases, the brain may not get enough of them. Many disorders interfere with getting enough oxygen and sugar to the brain and thus can cause fainting. A less common reason for fainting is temporary interruption of consciousness by a seizure. Fainting can result from overstimulation of the vagus nerve, which helps control heart rate and blood pressure. Stimulating the vagus nerve causes the heart rate to slow and blood pressure to fall.
Avatar m tn I have been suffering from lightheadedness and feel like fainting for couple of years without any medical explanation. I have been diagnosed with moderate obstructive sleep apnea and I am using CPAP machine now. What bothers me is that my apnea events have come down. I only have zero to 5 events per night. But still I am desaturated <90% 5-10% of the time during nights. Otherwise my saturation is between 90-95%. During day my saturation is 95-96%.

Avatar f tn Syncope or fainting,is generally caused by insufficient oxygen in the brain. This can be through cerebral hypoxia or through hypotension, and other medical conditions. One common type is vasovagal syncope. It may occur in scary, embarrassing or uneasy situations, or during blood drawing, coughing, laughing, urination or defecation. If it persists, have this checked by your doctor for proper management.
967168 tn?1477584489 What are the chances that OSA is causing me to have VTACH episodes? I have obstructed hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and had an ICD implanted 2 years ago due to malignant arrhythmia's (polymorphic ventricular tachycardia) and found out in the same week I had OSA (1 point from severe) waking 72 times nightly and oxygen going down to 76% but the sleep study showed no arrhythmia's during the test even though all my other tests showed 50,000 pvc's daily during that time frame.
1834303 tn?1318192625 My husband is NOT sick and this does not happen because he is sick or has recently been sick, it just happens! My husband tries to cough, can't get any air and passes out... it has happened about 5 times in the past 2-3 years; it used to just happen if he was drinking alcohol, after 3-4 beers. I used to think maybe the alcohol somehow caused his airway to get inflammed or something to restrict the airflow....
Avatar f tn Hi! I'm Mandy! I'm 28 and have been suffering from dysautonomia for 13 years now. A couple years ago I began feeling anxious about my fainting episodes. Now it is constantly on my mind. I'm always assuming I "might" faint in the most horrible of circumstances. I worry about crossing the street! I have an assistance dog now that has almost completely cured me from my anxiety. Thank goodness! Does anyone else have a fainting phobia?
1634318 tn?1300070431 Then after a few minutes I think I was fainting and my lips were deeply white without squeezing my lips and I think I was breathing hard because I though my body needed more oxygen and I actually though they were going to call the ambulance but what my mom did she gave me food and sniffed alcohol and the alcohol was actually helping. Do you doctors need more information I need to give you because I really do need your help? Also can this cause my feet to be itchy? .
Avatar n tn Is the pacemaker actually working? Are the settings correct? It sounds like sounds like he may be going into a dysrhythmia and the pacemaker not kicking in, therefore causing him a lack of oxygen to brain so he passed out? He may be dropping his heart rate too low and the pacemaker not kicking in lick it should be, therefore causing him to pass out.
Avatar f tn While walking behind a car I chose not to inhale but further exhale my breath, to the point where I felt I had completely discharged my oxygen. Now I am having a headache and obsessive thought that exhaling so deeply could've caused brain damage, even in the slightest bit, by depriving my brain of oxygen. Is this even possible? Or does breathing have to completely fail for this to happen?
Avatar f tn I am an active healthy 26 year old and have never had any issues with my health, other than the regular, but in the past month I have experienced some weekends where I have come close to fainting but have not yet actually fainted. I thought the first few times may have been hydration and not enough sleep due to having drinks with friends.
Avatar n tn The immediate cause of this fainting is the hard cough that causes reduced blood flow to the brain and can quickly deprive the brain of oxygen. However, there are many causes of sudden hard coughing, one of which is what is called Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD or “heartburn”) that irritates the larynx (voice box). In these instances, treatment of the GERD can often reduce or stop the cough, and thus prevent the seizures.
Avatar n tn mellymoo76 have you had a full cardiology workup yet?
Avatar n tn My husband smokes and when he coughs he coughs so hard that he passes out. This is due to lack of oxygen. I think it may be more. His father/uncle have epilepsy. Do you think this is possible? He tries to stiffle his cough because he knows that it upsets me and then he passes out. This doesn't happen all the time but for me once or twice is enough.
Avatar f tn Is anyone else having problems feeling really dizzy or fainting? I passed out last week in the middle of cosco and almost again in Wal-Mart anyone else having or had this problem??
Avatar f tn I have been having episodes that are strange and I hope I can explain this correctly. I feel dizzy and have a moment of a fainting feeling. It happens so fast, it's about the same amount of time as a camera flash. I feel like I have fainted, but it only lasts for a second, not long enough to actually fall down before I come to. I know this sounds bizzare, but am hoping someone else knows what this might be.
Avatar n tn I was hospitalized with congested heart failure, and I was in the ICU for several days and involved was removing the fluids for the lungs and stabilizing the oxygen level. Normal oxygen level for me at the time of my hospital discharge was in the low 90's which is not a medical problem. If the level of oxygen in an individual's body is too low, mild to severe complications can occur. The person may experience fatigue and have a grayish blue skin hue.
Avatar f tn My doctor says ita cause we have so much extra blood and are heart and veins and lungs are working overtime just trying to get oxygen to the main parts of the body and sometimes the brain doesn't get enough cause its all directed to our pelvis region
