The lower the glycemic value, the better. There are a lot of other lists available on the internet - just do a search for "low glycemic foods". Most vegetables "qualify" as low glycemic, except things like white potatoes, etc.
Avatar n tn Insulin, a hormone made by the pancreas, helps the body use glucose for energy. Glucose is a form of sugar that is the body’s main source of energy. The body’s digestive system breaks food down into glucose, which then travels in the bloodstream to cells throughout the body. Glucose in the blood is called blood glucose, also known as blood sugar. As the blood glucose level rises after a meal, the pancreas releases insulin to help cells take in and use the glucose.
484844 tn?1253968693 I was told by my Dr that my insulin level is high and after a boarderline glucose test I had a fasting 3 hour glucose that came out normal. She has suggested a low carb diet and I was wondering if any of you had advice on which one was best. Thanks a bunch!!
Avatar f tn Tingling and numbness can be signs of nerve damage caused by uncontrolled and unmanaged diabetes - excess and unknown glucose levels. Does your husband have a home glucose test meter and is he testing his glucose levels at the appropriate times? More can said about this once we hear back from you. Also, not mentioned is his last A1c test result.
6452556 tn?1381422100 So all of a sudden when you start taking glyburide, enough insulin is released to push glucose into you bodies cells. Therefore, any excess glucose that is taken up into cells that is not immediately needed for energy is stored in the form of fat for later use, hence weight gain.
Avatar f tn However, you may be seeing other associated symptoms, if you truly do have diabetes, including very foamy urine, which is a sign of excess protein.
Avatar f tn In cellular metabolism, glucose (sugar) can be converted into fatty acids. Many viruses use these fatty acids to build their viral envelopes, or outer coatings, which help the viruses penetrate and infect human cells. When the Hepatitis C virus gets into your body, it tries to increase your metabolism so that it can reproduce more quickly by using fatty acids to build protective outer coatings which will help it penetrate and infect your liver cells.
Avatar f tn New red blood cells live an average of three months. Excess glucose binds to the outer walls of these cells never getting ingested to be used as energy. The A1c will read this. Bottom line, go get a checkup by your PCP.
Avatar f tn Another possibility comes from your liver releasing excess stored glucose. Then we have Dawn Phenomenon which is the release of certain hormones in the middle of the night.
20839146 tn?1530400343 I wanted to see if anyone would be able to give insight into my labs. If this is not okay to ask for here, please let me know or just ignore! My blood results are which are within "normal" range, but with some (H) and some (L). My C-Reactive protein has been high in the past, but wasn't measured this time.
Avatar m tn does excess protein intake (like eating excess tuna fish) increase liver enzymes ast and alt?
Avatar m tn Fasting does not remove excess glucose from your blood, what it does is give a baseline result without foods or colored liquids skewing the test results. Try not to exercise 48-72 hours prior to testing to let your liver settle down and not produce excess blood glucose. To the point, your last fasting test result of195 mg/dl is suicidal.
Avatar f tn in the book "The China Study", T. Colin Campbell, PhD states "in mice, HBV (hepatitis B) initiated the liver cancer but the cancer grew in response to feeding of higher levels of casein. In addition, blood cholesterol also increased. These observations fit perfectly with our human findings. Individuals that are chronically infect with HBV and who consume animal-based foods have high blood cholesterol and high rate of liver cancer.
Avatar m tn If you take insulin you may be taking too much for the amount of food you are eating. As insulin helps the glucose get to the cells and tissue. If you are not taking insulin your body may be releasing a large amount of insulin in response to a meal high in carbohydrates. You need to find a balance as hypoglycemia can cause you to serious problems. I would talk to your dr.
Avatar m tn To prevent memory loss when a person has diabetes, one should change their diet to include foods with fiber, protein, and calcium that will stimulate blood flow and also help replace some of the nutrients lost. Exercise will also promote blood flow. Walking is an excellent exercise that does not put excess strain on the body, joints or limbs and helps to reduce glucose levels.
Avatar m tn re late to catching your airplane flight makes the muscles and liver release stored glucose, in turn you burn this off. Continued exercise cause the muscles to store excess glucose for future use. This lowers your glucose levels. At this stage you already know you are prediabetic. There is no need for an A1c meter. This where the home glucose meter becomes a useful tool. I'm not certain of the health protocols in India regarding home glucose meter purchases.
Avatar m tn As insulin resistance progresses, it causes excess glucose to buildup in the blood, which leads to type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is also a risk factor for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, one of the causes of cirrhosis. Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes, accounting for 90 - 95% of cases. In type 2 diabetes, the body does not respond properly to insulin, a condition known as insulin resistance.
Avatar m tn Along with this is daily 30-60 minute exercise which helps burn off excess glucose. If you live near an indoor mall go there before stores open and walk the aisle ways. Its a great free place to beat winter conditions. Your tingling and numbness can be signs of nerve damage that can be verified by a doctors evaluation. An Ophthalmologist can check your vision issue too.
Avatar m tn In the mean time, it already started to convert all the excess glucose you ate into body fat (yes, it comes from pasta, not from bacon) and store it for times when needed. If you don't eat for a long time, the body will start converting that body fat back into glucose, and that's why your levels are elevated even if you don't eat anything.
Avatar m tn This means if you eat a ultra rich protein meal without fat and little carbs, the body can respond by injecting insulin into blood, driving the blood sugar super low, and then this is followed by your body converting some of the protein to glucose, via a process called gluconeogenesis. Kind of a bummer if someone goes intentionally low carb to control their blood sugar.
Avatar f tn I was told to only eat protein.
1773108 tn?1314158067 It's good to see that you care about your boyfriends well being. What he needs to understand is that popping pills - being supplements or drugs - will not cure diabetes alone.
