Avatar n tn We do not know much about the factors that affect these diseases, in part because they are not very common. Many years ago, a link between estrogen alone and endometrial cancer was found. Observational studies suggested that using estrogens combined with progestins would protect the uterus from this risk. Based on this information, physicians began to give combined hormones to women with a uterus.
Avatar f tn I had stage 4 endo at age 33 and the doctor said I needed a full hysterectomy which removed ovaries, uterus and cervix. The doc said it was so bad that if I don't have the surgery when I menstruate I would cough blood if it moved to my lungs. I had the surgery and have been on the estradial patch for at least 5 years. I am on .1 and .5 patch every 4 days. I am now 40 and just went to a new doc and she was shocked I was on such a high dose.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately in November 2006 that ovary turned malignant as well and I had to have it removed and due to the fact that it was my second bout of cancer, and they still to this day cannot determine whether it was a new spontaneous cancer or a recurrance (I think this is because of the previous good pathology, and the fact that there was squamous cell on the outside capsule of the ovary) I had chemotherapy and radiation treatment with it completing in July 2007. I am currently in remission.
Avatar f tn I also read this Endometrial thickening can be benign and caused by low levels of estrogen and a lack of progesterone as you transition into menopause. Estrogen builds up the lining and no more progesterone prevents it from leveling off and shedding. Even if there is abnormal endometrial thickening, it takes about 10 years for it to turn into cancer, so its good you got a biopsy but it is more likely going to either be benign or premalignant.
Avatar f tn hi,my mother in law had endometrial cancer one year ago,had hesterectomy and then positive peritoneal cytology.she had 8 cycles of chemotherapy.two months ago she had recurrence of cancer and some cysts are seen in MRI but when she's undergoing the surgery, doctors cannot remove the tumors as she has complete bowel obstruction and frozen abdomen.she cannot eat and drink.she is given ivs and a drainage pipe inserted from her nose to her stomach to suction the fluid from intestines.
Avatar n tn Even though it is an antagonist in breast tissue it acts as partial agonist on the endometrium and has been linked to endometrial cancer in some women. Therefore endometrial changes, including cancer, are among tamoxifen's side effects. With time, risk of endometrial cancer may be doubled to quadrupled, which is a reason tamoxifen is typically only used for 5 years.
Avatar n tn Also, he mentioned that Prometrium will help protect me from endometrial cancer and possibly breast cancer. I read that it may increase the risk of breast cancer so I am totally confused. Can someone help and offer advice? I am going for a 2nd opinion in December with another Ob/Gyn. Thanks.
Avatar n tn ive been on tamoxifen almost 4 years and was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer estrogen receptive. i had a total mastectomy even though no lymph nodes were affected or the vascular lymph system. it was a grade 2 and the tumour was 1 cm. now, im having problems with simple dysplasia and i have three options do nothing, go off the tamoxifen or hysterectomy. would it be advisable to go off the tamoxifen for 3 months to see if the spotting which i only had twice stops.
561921 tn?1216605621 I had a bilateral mastectomy from having DCIS, from strong family history of breast cancer. I recently just went through bilateral oophorectomy and tubes removed. I was told by the nurse at the hospital, that my doc will probably prescribe hormone replacement therepy. Is this safe, even though I no longer have overies, or breast? Is estrogen replacement the best therepy?
Avatar n tn Causes of post menopausal bleeding could be ovarian cysts, endometriosis, diseases of pituitary gland, hormonal imbalance of estrogen and progesterone, thyroid hormone imbalance, cervicitis and cervical cancer. Your doctor may consider tests like blood sugar levels, thyroid function test, prolactin, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSA), estrogen, and testosterone. Imaging studies, such as ultrasound, X-ray, and CT scan or MRI brain may also be recommended in certain individuals.
Avatar f tn Just to add to what Lauren said regarding tamoxifen vs. other AI's, they do work differently in the body. Tamoxifen works by blocking the body's use of estrogen, whereas AI's reduce the amount of estrogen present in the body. In studies of breast cancer patients, AI's have proven to work better than tamoxifen in preventing recurrence, and there are far fewer serious side effects with AI's than with tamoxifen, too. Tamoxifen can cause blood clots, and stroke..
Avatar n tn Last week I had an vagibal ultrasound showing endometrial thickness of 18 mm. My ovaries were normal. Just 7 months ago I had a vaginal ultrasound and it was normal with my endometrium 2.9mm. I was on birth control pills at that time and have been taking them for over 10 years. I have no vaginal bleeding or discomfort. I started Prempro last month for a month, but stopped due to symptoms of bloatness and weight gain.
Avatar n tn The following year 10/07 I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer with a bowel obstruction. I received emergency surgery and a colonostomy. I am happy to be alive. I have gone through chemo. The side effects of chemo on the colon was tremendous. The next surgery is to reverse the colonostomy. I just wanted to say you're not alone and a speedy recovery to you.
Avatar f tn ve been reading about as I asked for progesterone and estrogen testing - thyroid was not something I considered. Thanks for any help or insight.
Avatar m tn My mother had endometrial thickening and she is 54.6 months ago she undergone biopsy and result shows prolifferative endometrium. Now she bleeds again. what is proliferative endometrium, is it cancerous?
Avatar f tn At the least, get your estrogen levels tested, because the things you are talking about (DVT and endometrial hyperplasia and even heart issues) seem to be related to estrogen production.
Avatar m tn estrogen makes this type of cancer grow faster). However, I was diagnosed early stage and there is no history of breast cancer in my family. I was treated with a lumpectomy followed by four rounds of chemo and 30+ rounds of radiation. I have had no problems since then. However I have been in and out of being peri-menopausal for the past seven years. Early on, I was treated with zolodex, which kept my estrogen levels low.
Avatar n tn if endometrial hyperplasia with atypia is discovered there is a 40% change of having an early endometrial cancer. Most gyn oncologists would recommend a full hysterectomy in that setting. as for your abdominal pain, it may be unrelated.
Avatar f tn Gravida 3 para 2. My last pregnancy ended 5 weeks ago due to Iufd, no known cause. I was induced and had a vaginal delivery and then had to have a d&c an hour later to remove placenta. My ob ordered a vaginal US yesterday to see if I had a uterine septum . On the transvaginal US the tech said she thought she saw a endometrial polyp with"a little" fluid( I started my period 4days ago also) .
752468 tn?1237560359 I am a smoker (trying to quit now) and have a family history of breast cancer so not sure hormones will be a good choice. Thanks for your help.
Avatar n tn For cancer of the uterus, estrogen is the hormone that can stimulate growth of cancer. megace is actually a therapy fro endometrial cancer as it inhibits growth of the endometrial lining. I suspect you are given megace as an appetite stimulant.
Avatar n tn I am pretty anxious about all this. I am tall and on the thin side of normal weight. There is no cancer in my family and I have 4 older and one younger sisters. I have three grown children who I breast-fed- the last two for about a year. I took birthcontrol pills when I was younger, but not after my 21 year old was born. My husband had a vasectomy.I can't find anything online to check my symptoms that is not HRT related.
Avatar n tn s still there, the adrenals produce it. If you have an estrogen positive cancer, you want to block it. You got cancer once and were really lucky it was caught early. I hate the tamoxifen too but if it saves my life, it's worth it. I do understand your pain!
