Epinephrine and the heart

Common Questions and Answers about Epinephrine and the heart

epipen

Avatar f tn I, personally would just play it safe and not give the phenyleprine drops to you. It is much, much weaker than epineprhine and you would get a much, much lower dose of it than dental injection with epinephrine. Even so, I would just play it safe for regular exams and just get tropicamide which should not affect blood pressure or pulse.
Avatar f tn It's the epinephrine in the anesthetic that causes the racing heart, etc. Next time you're at the dentist and you need/want an anesthetic ask for one WITHOUT epinephrine. The medication generally takes a little longer to "kick in" and wears off faster, but your dentist will work with you for maximum comfort.
Avatar f tn of norepinephrine in the striatum (and other areas) of the brain. One of the common drugs is Stretarra which is used to treat ADD/ADHD. Previously, amphetamines were used to increase dopamine levels in the brain. Rather than messing with the dopamine levels, Stretarra prevents the reuptake of norepinephrine and attempts to regulate the dopamine/norepinephrine balance that way. Not sure if this helps or not.
Avatar f tn Involved is the sympathetic nervous system that prepares the body for action...oftened referred to as the "fight or flight" response to a stressful situation. And it quickly does the following and heart rate is only one factor: Increases strength of skeletal muscles Decreases blood clotting time Increases heart rate Increases sugar and fat levels Reduces intestinal movement Inhibits tears, digestive secretions.
Avatar f tn Perhaps you have a tachycardia issue (rapid heartbeat) that is causing the sweating and and some of the shortness of breath. At any rate, it might be worth checking out. As you probably know, extra pounds can be hard on the heart, can be a risk factor for diabetes, etc.. I know it can be harder with menopause to lose the pounds.
Avatar n tn m wondering with my heart problem how dangerous is it to get a dose of epinephrine and how will that affect my heart? I had an epinephrine dose in the early nineties due to a breathing problem, but that was before I was diagnosed with the mvp and atrial misfire.
Avatar m tn s always high. I get heart rates of 100-150 (though my resting heart rate is 50), ice cold hands and fingers, palpitations, almost the feeling of panic. And my BP answers with results up to 160/90. If I, towards all odds, manage to stay calm when I measure it, it's usually 110/60 or lower. BP and heart rate aren't especially related but if your heart rate is high, there is usually a reason for that (elevated stress hormones) which also increases the blood pressure.
Avatar f tn s correct that local anesthetics contain both lidocaine and adrenalin (epinephrine). They both can have effects on the heart, adrenalin has an obvious effect and lidocaine is actually an antiarrhythmic drug (class 1b sodium blocker) which may have proarrhythmic effects. The problem is - adrenalin is added to prevent the lidocaine from having systemic effects, the blood vessels are constricted. If you have reactions towards lidocaine, choosing the one without adrenalin would be bad.
Avatar f tn I had to get stitches last night, and was given 5-6 shots of epinephrine and lidocane. I told the intake nurse I was taking synthroid (which I presume implies thyroid problems). I felt a little "unusual" afterward (pounding heart, feeling calm and detached..), and was googling the side effects of the shot.. an article said this: "Additionally, epinephrine and lidocaine usually aren’t used in patients with thyroid disease, or disease of the kidneys or liver.
Avatar f tn I refused the shot, terrified that it would send my heart for a loop. The Dr. came back in after the nurse left the room and after looking over my chart, told me that during my gallbladder surgery in 2000, I'd received a similar drug and had "tolerated it well." The issue was that I'd received lidocaine during another procedure as a teen and as I was laying on the table, I suddenly felt my heart just take off like I was running a marathon. It freaked me out!
Avatar n tn I had a 2nd trimester miscarriage the day that I had a mole removed at my dermatologist. They used Epinephrine and Xylocaine and when we received the autopsy report it revealed that my baby was perfectly normal and healthy without chromosonal issues prior to him dieing in my womb that day. Has anyone experienced this or known anyone who has? I researched on the web and found many warnings about pregnant women receiving Lidocaine from the dentist but not what they gave me.
Avatar n tn i don't know what the diagnosis is for your heart problems, but i do have a remedy for heart health that is supposed to be highly preventitive for any clogged arteries by removing it. You mix onion juice, garlic juice, lemon juice, and apple cider vinegar together. 1 cup of each, in a pot and boil it for like 20 to 30 minutes until about 3 cups of fluid remains. Then, wait until it cools and mix it in a jar with 3 cups of honey.
1305767 tn?1361192676 m thinking the epinephrine sends my anxiety level from like a six to a ten. Last November I had a tooth pulled and while the dentist was injecting the shot my heart rate got so high I almost passed out. They put a monitor on my finger and it was about 150! That is just crazy.
Avatar n tn It certainly can be depending on the difficulty of the extraction and whether there was an infection present at the time of the extraction. It also can be related to the age of the patient and medications she might be taking.
Avatar f tn Sounds like hormone shifts causing the mood swings and especially anxiety attacks. Seems we get adrenaline or epinephrine pushes without a quick nor epinephrine response due to hormone changes. I'm been through it. Doctors were no help at first, then I was medicated with a Beta blocker for an entirely different problem (blood pressure and heart rate issues) and wow.....
Avatar f tn s left after the epinephrine is spent, and normetanephrine, the inactive metabolite of norepinephrine, which they also measure). But it sounds like from what you are saying that it doesn't block the emission of epinephrine, just the action it takes- I'd suggest if you don't hear quickly from your doctor you consult a knowledgeable pharmacist for their opinion.
Avatar f tn Just make sure to tell them you require the special kind before the procedure and visually inspect the vials yourself to double-check the day of the procedure; I've almost had a mix-up myself and luckily I caught the mistake. Better to be extra vigilant than too trusting and have something go wrong. Avatar m tn I am sensitive to caffeine, alcohol, sugar, salt, and any source of stimulants where as I get heart palpitations and flutters. I do not know what to do because If I cannot take any meds or antibiotics how will I ever overcomes this gum disease or any other for that matter?
1047019 tn?1256719961 The preservative is necessary to keep the epinephrine fresh (epi quickly deteriorates and becomes useless otherwise). The standard local anesthetic cartridges (called lidocaine in the U.S. and lignocaine in the U.K.) have epi added". http://www.dentalfearcentral.org/allergy_novacaine.html Epinephrine is just synthetic adrenaline. You can't be allergic to something you have in your body but you can be sensitive to it.
Avatar n tn both WITHOUT EPINEPHRINE,YES,WITHOUT EPINEPHRINE and I made sure of that before the skin test. They had to discontinue the Lidocaine because of heart side effects. But they finished with the other one and they thought that everything was fine and sent me home..The next day,BOOM! they hit with a vengence..P.V.C.S over and over again lasting for 3 weeks or so until they finally tapered off.
1089281 tn?1314567514 I TAKE FLECANIDE FOR AFIB AND AM ALLERGIC TO EPINEPHRINE (CAUSES IRREGULAR HEART RATE) . CAN OR SHOULD I GET THE CVID VACCINE?
Avatar f tn I've known for a couple of years now that if I consume alcohol in any quantity at all, my heart rate will increase a few hours later to an uncomfortable level. It doesn't happen while I'm consuming the alcohol, but maybe 3 hours later or so. Normally, my heart rate is in the low 60s. If I have three drinks, it's going to be in the 80s, four drinks the 90s, and if I'm stupid and really binge, it can go as high as 120 bpm. It stays elevated for hours.
Avatar n tn For the first time in 37 years, two weeks ago when I received regular dental anesthetic my heart raced and I started having palpitations. It passed of course in a few minutes and when I went in yesterday for a root canal I asked for the anesthetic without epi. The first shot was fine, but the second injection sill caused my heart to pound hard, my chest felt shallow and made me feel a little panicy. It passed and the 3rd injection did the same.
Avatar f tn I have an irregular heartbeat, after having the epinephrine and have heard the same thing from many others going into Afib from it, or having their Afib made worse. I remind the dentist each and every time. It's not paranoia when there really is a problem!
Avatar f tn Oh yeah! Like viperron, the epinephrine makes my heart pound, I get the sweats, and shakes. My dentist doesn't use it on me anymore. I also get the heart pounding when eating or drinking certain things like too much caffeine (1 dr. pepper max), msg is a big culprit, eating too many carbs especially in the morning, cold meds, generally aspirin ( I can take 1 baby aspirin), .... Along with the pounding heart I get heart arrythmias and racing (until ablation).
Avatar m tn In a simple dental procedure, I had what I can only describe as a seizure after getting what was supposed to be lidocaine and epinephrine injection. The area never got numb, and the pain from the point of the needle each time they attempted to inject me was painful. I was taken to the ER and released after 8 hours with no explanation. I read that lidocaine can cause a seizure. I have had injections many times with no problem. What could have gone wrong?
