Common Questions and Answers about Doxycycline gonorrhea treatment

Probably you were no longer infectious within a couple days of starting the doxycycline. Routine advice is exactly what you were told, no sex until completing treatment -- but doing so toward the end of treatment shouldn't be a problem and did not put your partner at risk. And missing a single pill makes no difference. However, you don't mention whether your partner was treated.
Hello, I would like to know if doxycycline 100 mg on its own is effective against gonorrhea? Also, I had a possible contact with gonorrhea yesterday. So if I am tested the day after , will gonorrhea show up in the test just 1 day after my encounter? Thanks.
Suspecting it as gonorrhea (thru reading the net), I self medicated with doxycycline 100mg taken twice for 7 days. The discharge was gone after 4 days (continued the medication till the 7th day). I never had sex with anybody during these period. Aug. 31, 2012 I had protected sex with my girlfriend and after 6 days, discharge from my organ showed up again. So I finally decided to go to a doctor to have it checked.
So since may 30th i had gonorrhea and on june 5th it's negative which was before treatment with the doxycycline. It confuses me so much that i over analyse these things in my head...and how did i ever get the gonorrhea. I know that my husband and i never had a problem in our sex life. We're both clean people and never thought that this would ever happen to us. My doc asked me if i had any other ex bf's before my husand and i said yes which was like 6 yrs ago.
Ceftriaxone 500mg im stat (make up with 2ml lignocaine 1% or as per data sheet) plus doxycycline 100mg twice daily for 14 days Better or worse than this treatment: Ceftriaxone 500mg im stat (make up with 2ml lignocaine 1% or as per data sheet) plus azithromycin 1g. How much azithromycin should be the recommended dose to definitely eradicate chlamydia? What is an im stat? Thankyou.
Was treated for gonorrhea/chlamydia with Doxycycline (2 tabs, 100mg, 7 days) and Rocephin (shot). I'm on the 6th day of 7 day treatment and I am still experiencing the burning sensation when I urinate. I was wondering what this means for me. How long is it supposed to take for symptoms to subside, is this an antibiotic-resistant strain, Am I stuck with gonorrhea forever, are you f**king kidding me? etc. I'm stressed over it.
Hello folks. 40 year old male. Contracted oral gonorrhea from a partner. Treatment consisted of 250 mg IM injection of ceftriaxone and 10 days of Doxycycline. Symptoms included sore throat, swollen tonsils, neck muscle aches, swollen glands, low grade fever. (99.9) and discharge in the back of throat. Sore throat started to go away after about 3 days of treatment. On the west coast gonorrhea is treated with cephalosporins and Doxy for chlamydia at the same time.
Actually, Doxycycline is reportedly effective for Trichomoniasis. Doxy treatment for most bacterial infections (gonorrhea, chlamydia, ureaplasma, mycoplasma and Trichomoniasis) is 100 mg pills, every 12 hours (or 2 pills per day) for 7 days in a row. The treatment your husband received should be adequate in getting rid of the infection (if he had it).
Handsfield, Just to update you, as you know i was diagnosed with Nonchlamydial NGU and was prescribed with Azithromycin (single dose) and then Doxycycline (one week) after the azithromycin failed. Well, my treatment is now over for the Doxycycline and i still have symptoms of NGU which include scant perfectly clear discharge and perhaps a slight discomfort when urinating.
My husband gave me chlamydia and gonorrhea 8 months ago , we both got treated and things were okay. We both got ceftriaxone for the gonorrhea. For the chlamydia, i was treated with zithromax and he took doxy twice a day for 7 days. Everything was okay. Then he developed penile discharge and tingling 2 weeks ago and now his test PCR DNA probe is positive again for chlamydia. He swears he did not cheat on me again.
I suggest you wait for your STD test results instead of worrying. Also, if you are taking Doxycycline, you have to finish the treatment... which is usually (For most bacterial STD's) 7 days, 100 mg, taken twice per day. For primary and secondary Syphilis though, it would be the same, except the treatment would last 14 days.
Said the test came back positive for something but it didn't have the usual stuff you find in gonorrhea or chlamydia, but they said something was there. So I was prescibed Doxycycline, 14 tablets, 2 per day for 7 days. I'm on day 3 of taking them and while the intensity of the itching has lessened, it's still there. Still have the slight clear discharge. I'm just wondering if the medicine is working. They also gave me an injection the day I started treatment.
The doxycycline you took would cure most gonorrhea, all chlamydial infections, and NGU. If you had been exposed to syphilis, the doxycycline would have prevented that too. Finally, the pimple that you developed during therapy does not sound at all like an STI either. My advice is not worry further. There is no need for further testing or therapy.
I, however, am a worrier when it comes to sexual health, and took myself along to a local GUM clinic, 3 days after the encounter, was tested, (came back negative) and also received two tablets (I am unsure what these were) to treat gonorrhea just in case, and also 7 days worth of doxycycline. My first question would be is 3 days long enough to get an accurate reading? And also, if I did indeed briefly have these two infections, would I now be clear of them?
Rocephin and Doxy treatment. After treatment no symptoms. Should I get tested for STDs? 2- Should I get tested for Hiv?
Will a week of Doxycycline be enough to nip this NSU in the bud? Will Doxycycline continue to be effective after I finish my 14 pills in one week? Or perhaps, should I ask for another week of Doxycycline, which would be ok too since this drug is DIRT CHEAP and is absolutely wonderful in terms of side effects. The side effects are only mildly annoying, which cannot be said about other drugs I have sampled. However, I hate the "gut rot" as I call it...
A couple of days back, after having unprotected sex, I started having burning sensations while urinating, and also thick yellowish discharge from my penis. I commenced a 7 day treatment with Cipro and Doxycycline. I completed the treatment about 3 days ago, but I still have discharge(though less thick and not as plentiful), and a slight discomfort when I urinate and when I get an erection. How long does it take for the symptoms to disappear, and did I take the wrong medication?
I will have a gonorrhea test on Thursday at PPH. By the way, would doxycycline cure gonorrhea and is the dipstick test that showed minimal white cells a good sign against gonorrhea? Thanks very much again for your responses, they have been very helpful.
As I said, nothing you have reported suggests gonorrhea - I told you this and so did your doctor. If you had gonorrhea, penicillin will cure some but not all infections because some gonorrhea is resistant to penicillin. It is time for you to forget about this and move on.
Many clinics prefer knowing that the antibiotic is actually using an injection. Further, in the future, as gonorrhea treatment may evolve to only involve ceftriaxone but for now the cefixime is fine. 3. When my test results from the STD clinic come back in 2/3 weeks time, I'm suspecting they will be positive, but what should I then do, go back for another test and wait another 3 weeks?
jus like a pea size, but it swelled. aug 26 i went to a urologist and gave me a cefotaxime shot. aug 26 i started taking doxycycline 100mg 2x a day for 7 days. 5 days have gone and until now i still have a clear discharge at the tip of my penis. :c 1. what does a green semen stand for? 2. when can i see the result of cefotaxime IM injection? 3. did i infect my girlfriend? she also did oral sex with me last aug 24.
The doc wanted to put me at ease so he prescribed me the same medication the man with gonorrhea of the genitals had (Doxycycline). my question is, even tho my friend was prescribed Doxycycline and had some shot for his genital gonorrhea, will the Doxycycline (only) i was prescribed still prevent me from getting pharyngeal gonorrhea or any gonorrhea in my mouth??? He told me he caught it from a girl who he had intercourse with six weeks ago.
I understand that with one single episode of unprotected oral sex I have been very unlucky and the most common scenarios are Gonorrhea or NGU. Is it possible to have Gonorrhea without discharges and pain from the uretra? (other symptoms continue). Would it be possible that the antibiotics have altered or avoided some symptoms even if reinfected by my wife (asymptomatic)? Maybe influenced by antibiotics..
Had you not said a test was positive, I would have been skeptical about the diagnosis of gonorrhea, especially following several days of doxycycline. Gonorrhea can be highly resistant to doxy and related drugs, but it's uncommon. Also, the course of events doesn't add up very well: testicular pain moving from one testicle to another, apparently without discharge of pus from the penis (at least you don't mention it).
