Doxycycline for uti

Common Questions and Answers about Doxycycline for uti

Avatar_m_tn I was recently diagnosed with NGU and was prescribed doxycycline 100mg bid for 7 days. My physician said to abstain from sex until all the medication was gone. That is exactly what I did. I ended up having sex 4 to 5 hours after I took my last dose of doxycycline on day 7. Did I put my partner at risk by having sex so soon after treatment? Also, I took 13 out of the 14 pills. (I choked one of the pills back up and spit it out). Would that have an impact on the meds efficacy?
Avatar_n_tn I was given azithromycin, but after one week conditions persisted and the discharge got a little darker in color (was almost clear at first). On the second visit I was given doxycycline which I took for seven days. I thought symptoms were starting to get better (decreased discharge), but two full days after completing the treatment I still feel some warmth/tingling in the head of my penis and discharge seemed to be a little darker again this morning.
Avatar_f_tn I was just prescribed Doxycycline Hyclate 100mg tablets for Chlamydia, I received a 10 day supply for my partner and I. Can we have intercourse while taking the pills? If need be, we can use condoms, but it is okay to do so? Also, I am currently on Metronidazol 500mg for a UTI, is it okay to mix the two prescriptions?
Avatar_f_tn I never got a positive for the stds, the swabs were negative. The medication given to me, I was told, was doxycycline specifically for chlamydia as a precaution, and the other tablets were a high dose of something which treats I assume I am clear either way, what with negative swabs as well....but I think perhaps I have a secondary infection like thrush or something from the antibiotics?
1390055_tn?1365618655 But I'm not entirely sure, which is the reason of my posting. If you have been on Doxycycline for an STD or UTI, have any of you experienced anything like increased urination and output, dehydration, and increased thirst?
Avatar_m_tn Morning, 48 hours after rocephin shot and 5 days into doxycycline regimen, I noted discharge at my waking. Dysuria was the same as it has been for 6 days now. Discharge was thin, yellowish in color. If I had no discharge until this point, would this likely indicate a yeast infection instead? Isn't discharge usually early on in the timeline? Please advise. I'm dreading these results coming back.
Avatar_n_tn He told me that he dont pay attention to my bacteria, because the antibiogram says that it was 100,000 and the urologist treat after 500,000, so he told me that he just going to give me an antiinflamatory for the prostate, but when i see the medication, he gave me doxycycline and my antibiogram says that the bacteria has resistance to the tetracycline and im very scared to taking it, because it can increase the bacteria. he told me that take it and ejaculate every 3 days. but im very scared.
Avatar_m_tn The GP then tested me for STD and discovered chlamydia. I was given doxycycline for 7 days . Again, I had a yeast infection which cleared with clotrimazole. Three days after I ended the course of doxycycline, the burning sensation returned, worse than before. I was given doxycycline again, and again I had yeast infection. This time, the vaginal pain disappeared and it seemed the chlamydia was gone. Yet I was left with a very strong burning sensation in the urethra and maybe the bladder.
Avatar_n_tn I had to return to the GYN to have a colposcopy performed, and was put on doxycycline again for that procedure for two weeks. About a week later, I went back to the doc with back pain and frequent urination (but no burning) and they changed me to macrobid for a week. They said I didnt "grow anything weird", but I still had a UTI.
Avatar_m_tn I was recently diagnosed with a UTI, I was prescribed Cipro for 10 days. by day 4 the discomfort was getting worse, itchy Urethra, rectal, pain, etc... I was prescribed Fluconazole for possible Yeast infection. The next day about halfway through the day I was in severe pain from the testicles up to my left flank. Saw my Doctors PA and they took a urine sample. Sample actually came back clean and I went home.
Avatar_n_tn So I went to Walgreens and picked up a trusty AZO UTI test kit. It tested positive ( I mean as purple as it can turn ) for Leu and 100% negative for Nitrate. So I called a friend of mine whos mom is a local doctor here where I live and she prescribed me to one capsule twice a day for 10 days of an antibiotic called Doxycycline. Its the afternoon of day 8 for me and I have been taking it once in the morning and once before bed.
Avatar_m_tn i went back to the hospital and after urinalysis, urethral swap, mp, wbc count, the doctor told me i was not having a measure problem but for a fear of infection and malaria.he prescribed ciprofloxacin quinine for 10days. while taking the drugs i was urinating at a rate of once in 2 hours but was relieving except for the constipation. bu after about 8 days all the symtoms came back . i perseviered and finished the treatment.
Avatar_f_tn After 4 days it still wasn't getting better so i went to the doctor. Since i had antibiotics in my system, the urine test came back negative for a uti. So the doctor gave me cipro to take for 7 days and told me she was going to send my urine off for culture. Well i have been on the cipro now for 3 days and it still hurts everytime i urinate. I'm really confused because i don't understand what else this could be. I have thought about STD's, but i am married and am monogamous on my part.
Avatar_m_tn The doctor treated treated me for everything that day because it would be several days before the results were in. Doxycycline 100mg for 7 days in case it was chlamydia or gonorrhea and a shot in the rump of something in case it was syphilis. I did tell her that I had taken an antibiotic and she acknowledged it. took 7 days to get the results back and everything was negative! YEAH!!!! I felt fine. 6 days after I finished the script symptoms started returning.
Avatar_m_tn If I have Chlamydia or a UTI infection, or prostate for that matter, would the Doxy sucessfully block/treat it? I had a prescription for bactrim and my wife (MD) suggested that I start it as I indicated I felt like I was getting another prostate infection. (I had only taken one pill evening b4 tests at clinic). If I do not have an std, I am incredibly fortunate and lucky and do not intend to tell her. If I do have the UTI bit or Chlamydia, would her Doxy block it? Advice?
Avatar_n_tn Hi, Doctor has prescibed me Doxycycline 100 mg for UTI( urinary treat infection). I have doubt wther it will be effective to cure. could you pleae advice?
Avatar_m_tn t=29492 Can't remember where I got the info for the misdiagnosis of veriocele for hernia and vice versa. Just do a search for yourself.
Avatar_n_tn Ten days ago I tested positive for Chlamydia, negative for Gonorrhea. My doctor gave me a ten day treatment of doxycycline. I have taken the medication as instructed, however, ten days later I am finished with the medication, but my itching and burning still remains. It is not as bad as it was when I went to the doctor, but it still remains. This worries me. Is this normal? What should I do? I have an apt. scheduled for next week, but I am worried in the interim.
Avatar_n_tn I was told to continue Omnicef for 6 more days and doxycycline for another 3 weeks and then they will see. I will definitely print out your comments and see if I can have some of the test done.
Avatar_m_tn Anyway, like two months ago , I was also on doxycycline 100mg for 28 days for suspected prostatitis. Can you please kindly tell me from what I have described what could it be ? Could be a UTI or prostatitis or any other infection. Could it be the doxycycline I took tow months ago did not clear up the prostatitis and it is a recurrence happening now? Please kindly note that I have a pain during urination . My only symptoms are pain at ejaculation and there is no blood in my semen.
Avatar_n_tn In late October I got a UTI, no burning or stinging but pain in my lower stomach/bladder, tickling, sensitive clitoris after urination, feeling like I have to pee often, and just an uncomfortable feeling at times mostly during and after urination, but I waited a few months to go to the doctor, I know bad idea, but I thought that whatever I had would go away on it's own anyway I went and my urine was tested, and I was told it had blood and white blood cells in it, indicating an infection, my urin
Avatar_n_tn I went to the doctor (no stranger to a UTI) and was told I had bacteria in urine. They gave me cipro. One week later the symtoms returned and I had a small raw spot or soar on base of penis near bulb (red dot). I was give doxycycline no std tests were performed. I have also been dealing with thrush in my mouth and was given a fluconase tablet for if and when it returned. This weekend I started have a burning sensation in my scrotum and a tingling after urination in penis.

Avatar_m_tn Doctors therefor subscribed me Doxycycline for 1 week which did not help at all. After that I got a 10 day treatment of Ciprofloxacin and the symptoms went away and everything was fine. After 1.5 Months later similar symptoms returned but instead of testicle pain it felt that it was more located in the left testicular tube. However the testicle is tender so I would suspect epididymitis. There was also a new symptom which was ear fullness every time i woke up in the morning.
Avatar_m_tn My urologist gave me Metronidaxole, Doxycycline were for any STD's or Prosatitis and also Cephalexin, I don't know what that was for? But he and my pcp said nothing in my body would live through these antibiotics, and I had the other tests too, now he and my pcp are baffled why I still have bladder and ureatha discomfort still. Should I go to the clinic again for more test after having 2 stds and a annual blood and urine test done, all in 1 month and still show negative?
Avatar_m_tn I have to leave to work in UAE one more test before I go and they said no std or NSU found anymore but I'm still having problems, doc gives me a different antibiotic to help as he thinks could be a uti that has turned into prostitis. Unhappy life for first few months in UAE due to pain and I had no plans to go docs out here too many horror stories. I start to masturbate more and find that days when I don't masturbate regularly I have urethra pain.

Avatar_m_tn Three weeks ago, I went to the doctors and was negative for STDs and they gave doxycycline for 7 days and it went away, within a few days. They said it was urethritis. Today, similar symptoms have started back up. Does anyone have any thoughts on what's going on?
Avatar_n_tn So I got tested for all the major STD’s at an urgent care clinic and the test all came up negative, also the Dr. there game me Doxycycline but I only took it for 4 days because my general practisioner later suggested I stop. From Feb 25 until now I have had the following symptoms: burning at the bottom tip of penis, urinary urgency, eurethral discomfort (slight burning), bladder discomfort, and testicular pain.
Avatar_m_tn I am a 23 year old male. For the past 3 months I have been experiencing discharge and pain in my left testicle and at the base of the penis. It started following a sexual encounter, where I received unprotected oral sex and had protected vaginal sex. I went to the GUM clinic, where I was told I have pus cells in the penis, and diagnosed with NGU. I tested negative for everything (chlamydia, gonorrhea, trichomoniasis.
