Avatar m tn Probably you were no longer infectious within a couple days of starting the doxycycline. Routine advice is exactly what you were told, no sex until completing treatment -- but doing so toward the end of treatment shouldn't be a problem and did not put your partner at risk. And missing a single pill makes no difference. However, you don't mention whether your partner was treated.
Avatar f tn My doctor originally thought it was a UTI and gave me some antibiotics for that. I took them and started to feel slightly better, but the he called me a few days later and said my STD test came back positive for Chlamydia. He prescribed me (4) 250mg Azithromycin. I took those, and my symptoms started to clear. A few days went by and I felt fine. Then I started to get sharp pains in my left testicle.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with epididymitis after a surgical procedure in early August. I was prescribed doxycycline and cipro and it seemed as if the swelling was going down and the pain was easing. After a few weeks, I ended up back at the ER 8/25 from pain and learned that the epidiymitis was caused by an UTI that must've occured after surgery. The doctor prescribed me doxycycline again. Things seemed to normalize but after I decided to seek other counsel.
Avatar f tn 2) Is doxycycline the usual treatment for STDs? and not treatment for UTI ? If my pain is reduced due to doxycycline does it mean I belong to STD problem? 3) can an STD show up positive on a UTI test (blood + urine)? I think the doctor only took the UTI test because I don't have a partner and don't have sex. it is possible that they focus on UTI. but the result is negative. no infection.
Avatar f tn Symptoms disappeared but then reappeared 3 months later and I returned and tested positive again and was pescribed doxycycline 100mg tabs once a day for 7 days. After treatment my symptoms continued to persist and I worried that I was still not cured. One month later I returned and was tested again and prescribed 2 azithromycin 500 mg tablets. I got my results and turned up negative for Chlamydia even though I was still experiencing symptoms.
Avatar n tn m a 22 year old male, I went to the hospital in Canada for treatment for a UTI, which I think was Chlamydia. The doctor gave me a 600mg dose of Doxycycline and a 7 day prescription of Ofloxacin, which seemed to work wonderfully and cured my symptoms. Two weeks later, when I was back in China the infection came back.
Avatar f tn I and my husband received IV continous infusion Clindamycin treatment times 7 days and the followup testing showed we were both positive with clamydia. I still have pain in my right kidney that I usually have with chronic UTI. I am taking Cipro now for E. facelis but infection will not go away. It is too the point I don't want to have intercourse with my husband. Also did two months of oral macrobid and clarithomycin both I and my husband. Don't know what to do please advise.
Avatar m tn called me today and recommended me to a urologist and switched me to cipro saying it really sounds more like a bad UTI and Cipro is stronger than doxycycline. He feels that the chances of me still having an STD are practically zero. I don't think it's herpes because it really isn't uncomfortable to urinate. I do have red inside my meatus/urethra and it is irritated for sure. Plus, this has been going on for too long and the herpes outbreak doesn't last this long.
Avatar f tn Over the next few days the pain persisted and I ended up going to the hospital in which they diagnosed me as having a UTI, gave me a dose of painkillers and a general UTI antibiotic and told me to stop taking the doxycycline. After that the symptoms seem to clear up. A week or so later the doctor I saw when I first had symptoms requested me to come and see her, she informed me I had Ureaplasma and prescribed me the doxycycline again.
Avatar f tn Went back another 2 weeks later to planned parenthood, she did a wet mount and said she saw white blood cells, so prescribed me doxycycline without running my urine since it could have been a false positive. Anyways, the doxycycline seemed to help the uti symptoms until it was finished, now I feel the same as before. Really confused??? Going back into the clinic Monday to get tested and probably prescribed something else. What could be causing this?
Avatar m tn About 4 days into the treatment, my symptoms began going away and by day 8 of the treatment, I felt like I was healed. However, the day after completing the Doxycycline, I began feeling pain in my penis again. I nor the doctor have not seen any lesions or sores but I'm still afraid I have herpes or something based on forums I've read. The pain seems to be the most noticeable if I squeeze my penis, or change it's position or when it's rubbing against my pants.
Avatar m tn I went back to the clinic again on 3/29 because of the bladder pain and this time I was prescribed one day of cefixime, metronidazole and 7 days of doxycycline 100mg for 7 days. During the doxycycline, all my symptoms seemed to go away. But before the course of doxycycline was even over, maybe day 4 or 5 of treatment, the bladder symptoms came back for a day. Then they were gone again the next day.
Avatar m tn 2 (Quali) HIV Result NONREACTIVE TP-PA (Qualitative) POSITIVE RPR NONREACTIVE HBsAg(RAPID)Screening NONREACTIVE --- Test 1 was useless as the local doctor mistook the findings and told me I had UTI. Ergo, after 1 week of self medication with doxycycline I stopped and continued UTI medications for 2 weeks.
Avatar m tn In the beginning since Christmas, i had a UTI. I treated it until that went away after taking medication for a week. A week after around the 7th of January. I was feeling a lot of pain in the testicles, scrotum and urethral opening (I even felt there was smoke coming from one of the testicles). I went to the ER on the 18th of Jan and thought it was epididymitis.
Avatar m tn doxycycline is effective treatment; and NGU acquired by oral sex is not known to be harmful for female partners. We treat it to relieve symptoms, but not to protect men from complications (as far as we know, there are none) or to protect partners from harm. 3) The gonorrhea test is the only one that will mean anything. It will be negative. Chlamydia is rarely if ever transmitted by oral sex.
Avatar f tn Was concerned i had cervicitis as i have had it in the past. Went to a free clinic, and was told i had a uti. Also had no signs of cervicitis and was tested for stds and it came back negative. Took macrobid for 7 days. 3 days later symptoms were worse. Went to er. Pee test showed no uti, but they treated me with 5 days of cipro anyways. On the last day of cipro, symptoms were worse. Went back to the er. They tested my urin, and did a pelvic exam where they found cervicitis.
Avatar m tn A woman perform oral sex on me 4 months ago, all std tests were negative, saw a uroligist, primary care and std clinic and had everything done, he even suspected Prostatitis and tested for that with miner bacterial infection he perscribed Metronidaxole, said that would kill any STD along with the previous Doxycycline. He gave me the Cephalexin too? would all these antibiotics case male yeast infection or uti? I'm still getting uretha and bladder discomfort?
Avatar f tn Two patients had a positive TOC following treatment with 1 week of doxycycline, both were found to have a risk of re-infection. There was a significantly higher treatment failure rate in patients receiving azithromycin (p=0.0025). The site claims that a regimen of one week of doxycycline has a success rate of 98.8%. Should I go back to the clinic and ask them for the doxycycline treatment? Or is the information on medscape unreliable?
Avatar n tn I have been treated for this now 4 times, have not had sex in a year with my fiance and my test continues to come back positive. I have been treated with the doxycycline everytime because the other medication I am unable to take due to allergies. Are there any other treatments other than the doxycycline and azithromyacine?
Avatar m tn I was given a shot of Ceftriaxone and a course of Doxycycline 100mg twice daily for 10 days. The symptoms I had were a burning sensation whilst urinating and a constant white/yellow discharge. The doctor I saw at the sexual health clinic has worried me somewhat since she said that the condition is becoming harder to treat due to resistant strains of the infection.
Avatar m tn I went to a urologist and he prescribed me doxycycline and did a swab test and checked my prostate with an ultrasound machine (atleast that's what i think it was) and everything was normal. After a week i came back and the swab test was negative, but the doctor prescribed me doxycycline again for a week just in case. The symptoms disappeared, however after 1 or 2 weeks they started coming back and now, a month after, the discharge is white again and the urination is uncomfortable.
