Avatar f tn If you wish to become a type 2 diabetic, continue to snack on those donuts and twinkies. Otherwise exchange those bad habits with fresh fruits instead.
Avatar f tn My dad has been a diabetic for almost 20 years. He keeps it somewhat in check (holidays are very hard for him). Lately he has become very violent if he gets too low. A few nights ago I went to wake him to go hunting with my husband. He was up (standing) when I touched his arm and said dad he turned and tried to attack me. It took someone else jumping in to get him away from me. I've never seen this kind of rage in him before. Is it normal to have very very violent lows?

Avatar n tn If you eat junk food, such as chips, cookies, candy, etc, you should exchange them for veggies, fruit cheese, yogurt, low fat dairy, nuts, seeds, etc. Opt for plenty of protein and complex carbs and limit simple carbs, such as those found in sugary foods, products made from white flour, white rice, regular pasta etc. Opt for whole grain breads and pastas, sweet potatoes, etc. Exchange sodas and fruit juices for water or other unsweetened beverages. Try Stevia instead of sugar.
Avatar n tn However, if he is exercising, then he can get away with eating something like a whole fruit right before exercising (depending on his glucose level) beforehand and the cardio exercise will even it out. There is a Diabetic Exchange Diet that is in books where they assign you certain amount of meat, bread amounts that you can have at each meal - or trade off a lean meat for a little more fat, etc. so you don't have to count calories.
1897455 tn?1321396647 Have you tried compression garments? Diabetic socks? I use both and they help with the pain...I think the best are the socks though. The stockings or regular compression socks might be too tight. I use the Jobst sensifoot diabetic socks....I used to buy them from the medical supply store but they were expensive. I then switched to the walmart brand...they are ok if you are on a budget but found the best quality to be Jobst brand...I found a place online that sell them at the best price. www.
Avatar m tn Diabetes Solution by Dr. Beirstein by log in on Amazon.com. There has been many lives, many diabetic 2 lifes have been saved by reading this book, by this Dr methode. Sadly, in my opinion, there are many more incompetent diabetes Doctors. To lower my A1c, I have been using my own herb, a combination of other herbs, to lower my blood sugar. At this point I am NOT ready to discuss about it.
Avatar m tn My 75 year old father, a chronic Type I diabetic for over 50 years, has his one leg amputated due to foot gangerene. He now has severe pain in the other leg. Short of another amputation, is there any way to reduce his pain in the leg?
Avatar n tn I have been a Type 1 diabetic for 30 years but again I am not an expert. My suggestion is you see your doctor right away. Especially since you are uncomfortable, pain is generally a warning sign. I am sorry I could not give you more insight. Take care of yourself.
Avatar f tn ) but go for a walk or exercise after. The main thing is not eat too much. Protein helps alot so you stay fuller longer. And protein doesn't break down into sugars later.
1363757 tn?1277819546 Keep a written log as a reminder as to what foods you should be eating. Fruits have fructose, fruit sugar. Tropical fruits, oranges, and like are high in fructose. Berries & some melons on the other hand are low in fructose. Eat fruits with other foods to slow the absorption of fructose into the blood stream. Avoid fruit juice. Avoid man-made products, white foods [potatoes, white rice, white flour, white bread], and dairy [milk, yogurt]. These are high in sugar.

Avatar m tn You can lower you glucose by following a diabetic nutrition plan restricting not only sugary foods but carbohydrates and foods made with white flour, maintain proper body weight, and 30 minutes of physical exercise daily. After 31 years as a diabetic all of the aforementioned should be part of your daily life. If it hasn't, they should be. Good luck.
Avatar m tn I have been pre-diabetic for almost 1.5-2 years now. I have had tingling sensation all over the body, Numbness in feet and slight neurotic pain in the legs below knees. And I have been having these bumps on my penis and pubic region for the same amount of time. I have been negative for STDs. And recenly the tingling, itching is mostly in the groin area. My vision seems to be blurred since yesterday. My fasting sugars right now range between 104 -118.
Avatar f tn Peripheral neuropathy is more of a symptom than a diagnosis. I guess Idiopathic Peripheral Neuropathy (Peripheral Neuropathy with unknown cause) could be a diagnosis. Peripheral neuropathy can be from toxins (including alcohol,) Diabetic Neuropathy, etc. Once all the "symptom related diseases" have been ruled out, and you can't find a cause, then a diagnosis of Idiopathic Peripheral Neuropathy would seem appropriate.
Avatar f tn Thank you for the reply. They told me I was not diabetic. I have been on sulfamexazole and cipro. They seem to clear the UTI up at the time but then it comes back within a week or two. I kept a log of my blood sugars for a month and they basically said I had episodes, but that I was not diabetic. Is there some other test besides blood tests that would verify whether or not I am diabetic? Is it possible to have some other ailment causing this?
Avatar m tn Diabetes Solutions by DR. Richard Beirstein , and log onto this website: diabetesdaily.com/forum to listen and learn from those long time diabetic 2 like you discussions. Avatar n tn I am a type 1 diabetic and I have been using Novolog for the past three years. For the first year I was using it by shots, but the last two years I have been using it in an insulin pump. In the last three to four months I have developed intense itching at the infusion site when I change it. For about 36 hours it itches so much I have scratched it to bleeding. In the last few weeks it has begun itching almost as soon as I put in a new canula.
Avatar f tn He is also using pull ups at night still because he keeps wetting the bed. Most nights he is peeing right threw his pull up. My dad who is a diabetic said he was a little worried and to have him come over and he will check his blood sugar. It was 249 about 2.5 hours after eating. He gave us a glucose monitor and he have been checking it regularly. Some times it gets about 110 and then other times it will spike. The highest its been so far is 269. I have no idea what this means.
Avatar n tn If you do fail then you will be put on a low carb diet which isnt bad i had it with my second you will test your blood 4 times a day and log it for your doctor. As long as you keep it diet controlled then you wont have to inject or take anything. If you dont keep it controlled by diet your baby could grow larger and when born its possible to have their sigar drop too low after umbilical cord is cut and theyd be put on a sugar drip.
Avatar m tn 15+ years as diabetic, 5 heart attacks (1 major 4 minor), gastroparesis (80% of stomach removed); she was on a dilaudid PCA pump at home with IV zofran also. She is between 60-65. Are there any tests that can determine the level of brain damage? Would another EEG do any use at this point? Is there any way to tell how long this could last or if she can make a full recovery? Are there any blood tests that can confirm anything at this point?

Avatar m tn Should I be following a diabetic diet which offers a similar type of exchange as I have described above. Relatives who have passed away on my mother's side all have suffered from Type II Diabetes. I just had my sugar tested today in the lab to see where my levels are at. I probably won't get the results until next week. I'm not looking for the grapefruit or cabbage type of diet, but something other then counting points on the W.W. plan.
Avatar n tn My son has been a Type 1 diabetic for 8 years. He is now 14 years old. It is an on-going battle between the two of us to get him to write down his sugar level and insulin when he checks. He is on a regimen of Lantus and Humalog and basically uses his own discretion when counting carbs and giving insulin. Does anyone have any suggestions on how we can better track his numbers, besides me following him around with a log book? He uses the Accu-Check Instant meter.
