Avatar m tn Destruction of these tissues and decrease in renal blood flow may cause the body to increase salt reabsorption (sodium) and lead to increase in blood pressure. You may discuss this with your friend' s physicians.Of course, other underlying conditions have to be ruled out such as PKD and renal artery stenosis or narrowing.Hypertension and diabetes which may affect the kidneys should also be ruled out.
Avatar m tn Hello and hope you are doing well. Diabetes can affect the kidneys and cause nephropathy. The earliest indication of this is microalbimnuria. The hyperglycemia produces increased matrix production and thickening of the of the glomerular basement membrane (GBM). This causes the nephropathy. This in turn causes systemic hypertension. To prevent further damage, he will have to take medications regularly and check his blood sugars to ensure it is in the normal range of 80-120mg/dl.
Avatar n tn Chronic kidney diseases develop slowly and can cause shrinkage in kidney size. Chronic kidney disease is caused by diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure, polycystic kidney disease and some medications like pain killers. Medications are given to reduce the blood pressure and to correct the anemia. When the renal function is below the optimal level then dialysis is initiated. At the end stage of renal failure renal transplant from a competent donor would be the therapy of choice.
Avatar n tn My Endocrinologist that I was seeing for thyroid issues put me on the Metformin- She said that i am pre-diabetic and this will help me and hopefully prolong my getting diabetes. Regardless- this is my first abnormal reading on the EGFR but my second abnormal on the Anion Gap.
Avatar n tn I am a 70 year old man and I was admitted into the hospital March 28 because I was in renal failure. At that time my BUNN was 123, Creatinine 5.98 and GFR 8. Meanwhile as you can see from results below, it wasn't the only this wrong. They said it was acute renal failure and I should just be patient for numbers to get better. Here are all of my results now and not one doctor can give me answers as to why this is all happening .
Avatar n tn It is possible to have acute renal failure and still have normal-sized kidneys. Renal atrophy may result from chronic renal disease or infection, as well as other conditions such as narrowing of renal arteries or obstruction of urinary tract.
Avatar n tn Wow, your boyfriend is fortunate to have you in his life.... your medical knowledge surely surpasses mine, because I'm just the mom of a type-1 diabetic and the wife of a type 2. From a diabetes point of view, there's probably nothing else to do besides the continuing effort for tighter BS control. It would seem wise to consult a renal specialist, to find out if a ratio above norm is reason for concern or not, and what if anything can be done about it.
Avatar m tn Considerations In 2008, a joint medical panel of members from the American Diabetes Association and the European Association for the Study of Diabetes released a statement advising against the use of GSK's diabetes medication, Avandia. This came one year after public charges of cardiac and liver safety were leveled against GlaxoSmithKline regarding the drug. GSK continues to maintain that Avandia is no less a threat to the liver than its competitors.
188761 tn?1584567620 I have already consulted my primary care about this today about 3 hours back and he has recommended a urine sugar test as the glucose level in her blood is not very high but pretty much in control. However, slightly above the diabetes benchmark. But, the glucose level in her urine is high and it shows some thing like "++++" on her reports. I am very concerned if it has some thing to do with the end stage renal disease / Kidney failure. My question to you is - 1.
Avatar n tn The product of the Wilson disease gene is expressed in renal tissue, but whether the renal symptoms are primary or secondary to release of copper from the liver is unknown. Renal complications tend to be functional changes unrelated to identifiable histologic findings. Rarely, patients with Wilson disease develop renal stones and associated symptoms. Renal stones are precipitated by hypercalciuria (the condition of elevated calcium in the urine.

Avatar f tn It was years ago, when I had urodynamic and cystoscopy studies. A weak bladder was found and no other urological disease. I was then about 60 y. No causes for the weak bladder were studied. The detrusor muscle tone varies vith time. I have sometimes polyuria and nocturia (and high serum sodium and osmolality).
Avatar f tn And, I have a daughter with Fibro on-set in late teens. She had kidney problems in late grade school, not related to diabetes. Hmmm. (You may be able to get or order it sent to your local library.
Avatar f tn I stick to a pretty strict renal diet (low phosphorus, potassium and sodium, low cholesterol and watch triglycerides).. Take tums with my meals (as a medication) and renal vitamins. I see my nephrologist every 3 months. I do have certain side effects from my kidney disease- I have a couple of friends who are on dialysis. Reasons I really don't want to be on dialysis?. It's very draining on the body- people are usually exhausted between treatments, There is risk of infection.

Avatar f tn How are you? How is your mother-in-law? Does she have diabetes? Chronic kidney or chronic renal disease, is a progressive loss of renal function over a period of months or years through five stages. The most common causes of CKD are diabetic nephropathy, hypertension, and glomerulonephritis.
