cytomel

744962 tn?1270942038 I was on 50 mcg levothyroxin and10 mcg cytomel and I took the cytomel in 2 doses - the first with my levothyroxin first thing in the morning, the second about 10:00. I should tell you that MY "first thing in the morning" is at 3:00 am......... So the second dose of cytomel was approx 7 hrs after the first and that seemed to get me through the day okay.
Avatar m tn liver liver liver..... this needs to be looked at. You need to look into cleaning that organ.
Avatar n tn Hi - apparently this Cytomel is very potent stuff, this is what is seem to need. What are the side effects and how effective is it when used correctly. My metabolism is very delicate and I see why it is prescribed in small amounts. I am just disgusted with medical viewpoints and when I go in there to see them they don't seem to know too much about thyroid problems.
Avatar f tn When I was switched from Cytomel to the generic I had a gradual deterioration of my previously good state and had symptoms of hyperthyroidism (dizzyness, heart palpitations, anxiety, joint pain) even though the dosage remained the same. My prescription was 75 mcg. T4 and 25 mcg.T3. I made sure that the generic was from Mylan labs every time. My doctor cut the T3 dosage in half and I crashed...severe depression, edema and 15 lb. weight gain in 3 weeks, visual and cognitive problems.
Avatar f tn I think alot of people just take a synthetic thyroid hormone. I'm on levoxyl. Though I don't know if it is vegan. You would have to contact pharmaceutical companies to find out if it's vegan.
Avatar m tn and my last test i needed to go up a tad bit so i tried to ad 25mcg t4 and it put me right back into the fog so instead i added 5mcg more cytomel and felt good again. so it is what works for each individual.
Avatar f tn I haven't felt this good in years and really don't want to go off of the Cytomel. The iodine alone didn't seem to do it for me, but I do like the Cytomel and 'find' myself doing stuff, instead of trying to figure out how I'm going to get another nap.
Avatar f tn Synthroid is only a synthetic t4 medication. It is a storage hormone that must be converted within the body (brain, liver, kidneys, thyroid gland and in the tissues of the body) to the active t3 hormone. T3 is needed for proper function at the cellular level. If a person's body is not able to convert enough of the t4 into t3, then this is where the problem exsist. You probably have a conversion issue. Have your doctor check your freet3 and freet4 levels, please!
Avatar n tn I am now on a mixture of the two, but I still feel like I have an easier time with the cytomel. A couple of times I have felt like the armour was working when I took iodine, but that sort of went away. I am only on one grain but when I try and raise I don't feel too hot. I saw my doc and he is going to check my reverse T3 level to see if I have a conversion problem. He is alwso going to switch me from cytomel to a time release T3.
Avatar f tn Your FT4 looks really good. The rule of thumb is midrange for FT4, and you're just into the upper third of the range. So, a little on the high side. However, your FT3 is very low. Very low...just off the floor of the range. If I were you, I'd try adding some Cytomel. Your FT3 could definitely use the boost. Keep in mind that when you add Cytomel (it's roughly four times more potent than T4 meds), you usually have to lower your T4 meds to compensate.
Avatar f tn usually your T4 med is DECREASED when Cytomel is started as T4 converts into T3 (cytomel) so you may be a little hyper at present. Get back to your Doc.
Avatar n tn I read another post here that mentioned that inadequate consumption of carbohydrates can affect liver function and the conversion of T4 to T3. My liver function tests were all normal. But when I look at my diet, it is probably low in carbs. I drink a lot of milk and eat a lot of nuts and vegetables, but I don't really eat many carbs and I eat very little meat. I've always been concerned about getting enough protein, calcium and vitamins, but never worried about carbs.
Avatar f tn Your FT4 was quite high, so bear in mind that when adding Cytomel, the rule of thumb is to decrease Synthroid by 20-25 mcg for every 5 mcg Cytomel added. Cytomel is roughly 4 times more powerful than Synthroid, so be sure your doctor knows how to use it and doesn't try to dose it like Synthroid. Also, Cytomel is very fast-acting compared to Synthroid, so many of us split the dose and take some in the morning and some later in the day. Start low and work up. Good luck!
Avatar m tn You are correct, the liver does strip iodine off the T4 to convert it to T3. This happens in other places besides the liver, too, but the liver is the main converter. Kidneys also do some, and the pituitary has it's own enzyme for converting (at least most people's do...not mine!). Usually, when there is a real conversion issue, patients are put on straight T3 temporarily until their RT3 (reverse T3) falls back into line.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 5 years ago. I initially was just givin Cytomel for my T3 levels. After going to a different endocrinologist three years ago, she put me on synthroid for the first time. She went on extended leave and I was referred to another doctor. She ordered bloodwork to be done before she wrote me a new prescription and agreed I was hypothyroid as well. She since left, I was referred to yet again another doctor.
909086 tn?1242660764 25 mcg of Cytomel to start is huge! And, when you start cytomel your suppose to cut your T4 med back by 20 mcg I believe. Second...you cannot treat with a T3 med without testing your Free T4 and Free T3...that is how you dosage and treat. T3 will supress the TSH and you cannot go by this whatsoever when on both meds. You should be having a Free T4 and Free T3 done with your TSH EVERY time. Cytomel and generic comes in 5mcg dosages for easier dosaging.
Avatar n tn After starting treatment with Cytomel 5 mcg x2/day (regardless of my normal labs) within 3 weeks I had tremendous relief from my symptoms, my hair stopped falling out.( Diffused pattern, especially on top and sides of my head) I had also low Ferritin levels and took some Iron.I was fine for 3 yers and just recently started loosing hair again. My ferritin is at 30(little low) so I started taking Iron again and it seamed the hair loss slowed down a little since.
Avatar f tn 25 of nature-throid and from 5 of liothyronine in the morning and one in the afternoon to 25 cytomel in the morning with my other pills. I am also currently on .1 estrogen patch as I had a complete hysterectomy and bi-lateral mastectomy due to a BRCA 1 gene, my age and family history of cancer. My estrogen is at a mid low range but normal none the less. I take 450 of Wellbutrin XL for a mood stabilizer as I can be quick to anger, withdrawn and moody.
139126 tn?1255036991 I have an appt with my endo in early June to discuss but I know he didn't feel my levels warranted adding Cytomel. His concern is that it gets a little riskier to use Cytomel as you get older (I'm 56). I'm also not feeling badly; just a little off and so I think he's being conservative. I had an adrenal check done last year before I had my TT and everything was normal. I'll get more info when I see him.
Avatar n tn I am concerned about my liver enzymes being elevated, they are not that high, but about a year ago I was taking alot of tylenol sinus for my allergies to my cats and dogs, and my enzymes went up to alt120 and ast 110, but since then it has come down slowly, no more tylenol, they went all the way back down to normal, eating clean diet and trying to stay away from toxins? If that is possible, well have started back drinking coffee and my liver enzymes have gone back up to 70/55??
Avatar n tn t understand why is my ft4 increasing when I decreased the meds, I went down from 100mcg tirosint and 5 mcg cytomel to 88mch tirosint and 2.5 cytomel and even on this dose, i felt over medicated, with heart palps and feeling freezing cold after taking the meds. I'm trying synthrod now, and even on that one I feel that 88mg is too much, I might go down to 75mcg, but I'm afrad it's too low.
Avatar f tn It is extremely rare for anyone to be on Cytomel alone for any length of time. Levo (T4) and Cytomel (T3) are prescribed in combination for the long run. If you convert well, and many of us do, you might never need Cytomel.
397332 tn?1225482122 Believed to be triggered by the cytomel, I had two Events with exertion started laughing, talking like I was drunk and passed out. These EVENTs triggered an EPISODE of my historical problem of facial weakness on one side, followed by extremity weakness on that side, later chest pressure after physical exertion. Even the least bit of exertion exasperated symptoms. I could walk to the bathroom urinate and walk back to my bed, a bowel movement and my legs would be so weak I could not stand.
Avatar m tn My current issue is after a phone consult with a Endo was put back on eltroxin and given cytomel this brought my tsh down from 84 to 1.5. But my ft4is rising it is 33. And still rising anyone know why. . Am in Canada Saskatchewan waiting to see Endo for over a year . Sad that so many people die on waiting lists or have their illness advance a lot while waiting .i have stopped blindly believing Drs and have been taught a lot on this site and the web.
