Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel bipolar

cytomel

Avatar n tn t want to say to get off the Cytomel. I think it could benefit you and if the Cytomel does balance off the bipolar disorder, ( which is strongly connected to the thyroid) using the T3 Cytomel could get you off those other bipolar meds. BUT - the psych needs to get "his head examined" He can't just put 25mcgs of Cytomel in you all at once and send you on your way. what an I D I O T !!!
Avatar f tn My thyroid doctor determined high reverse T3, small amount of antibodies, and generally low range T3 and T4, TSH varied high to low. Gradually switched from synthroid to cytomel only, and after much better t3/reverse t3 ratio, added synthroid. I'm taking 25mcg cytomel (half in AM, half in afternoon), and 25 mcg Synthroid. I don't have my recent labs, however my TSH was around 2, T3 in the top of the range and T4 in the very bottom of the range. Reverse T3 ratio was perfect.
Avatar n tn Help? I am on 125mcg of synthroid and want to add cytomel because of still suffering from fatigue and weight gain. My physician prescribed 25mcg of cytomel and said to discontinue the synthroid. I cannot get into an endo until Feb. and would like to combine the two but am not sure what doses to take reducing my synthroid and adding the cytomel?
Avatar f tn com/viewarticle/732977 which says Cytomel is effective in helping bipolar patients with thyroid dysfunction. The only time I have been on Cytomel is when my doctor wanted to get me out of hypothyroid quickly after I had radioactive iodine treatments. I did not know you could take a low dose of Cytomel forever. You can bet I'm asking my shrink about this next time I see her. If that doesn't work I'll hammer on my endocrinologist's door.
1218579 tn?1267638816 Prior to my TT I was taking meds for ADD and was doing ok. Now im still taking meds for ADD and now the drs want me to take meds for bipolar because of my moods since the surgery. 1267205 tn?1321117128 I am also a rapid cyling Bipolar 1 ....I feel like I cycle so fast that there is a spin class going on in my head...lol My doctor gave me an rx for cytomel. That really did help alot. It is in addition to eltroxin. It actually seems to make other meds more potent....however, I am still cycling!!! Even three years after dx, I still don't know how to prepare cuz I don't know when I will feel high or low until I feel the climb or decline.
606423 tn?1271824088 I am not sure how it is done. I have the same symptoms as you. Many people would say were bipolar. But it isn't the case. How long have you been on thyroxine??? I am making a switch to armour. I believe with hashimotos all of us need a t3 and t4 med. One single pill will not work. What kind of vitamins are you taking??? Are they running t4 free and t3 free. I hear those are the important blood test to take, not regular.
1070570 tn?1283436213 I was up to 125 mcg synthroid, then dropped back to 75 synthroid, then switched to 75 generic levo and added 10 mcg cytomel. That was too much cytomel, so dropped back to 5 mcg cytomel and switched to generic; then up to 88 mcg levo, staying with 5 mcg generic cytomel. Am currently on 100 mcg Tirosint and 5 mcg generic cytomel. I take the Tirosint first thing in the morning, per instructions (my day starts 3:30 am). I take my T3 med about 7-7:30 am.
Avatar f tn She told me she was 20 lbs over weights due to being hypo and was only be able to loose few lbs even with teaching many aerobic classes and eating healthy until she heard of Cytomel. She started taking 25mcg of Cytomel 4 yrs ago and noticed the fat melted quickly. She is now at her ideal weight and very fit.
Avatar f tn s fairly rare for somone to be on Cytomel only. Usually a small dose of Cytomel is added to the Synthroid, which may have to be reduced to accomodate the Cytomel. Cytomel (T3) is very fast-acting, so it has to be taken several times throughout the day if taken by itself. This leads to intra-day ups and downs in hormone levels. Do you have the results of your latest lab tests (FT3, FT4 and TSH) and their reference ranges?
765572 tn?1234697366 Can you take just Cytomel? I am on levothyroxine and feeling awful. I heard that this generic of Synthroid is actually not the same as Synthroid and that it is not as good. I heard some people have fabulous results on Armour and Cytomel. Why are Dr's so reluctant to prescribe these other meds? I heard Cytomel really helps with fatigue. All I want to do is sleep, it's awful.
Avatar f tn I thought that the generic cytomel was exactly as the brand cytomel. no difference what so ever. I thought I read this somewhere in these forums???? i am on the generic for 3 weeks now and I really feel no different. the doc gave me 25 mg of cytomel to add to my 75mcg of synthroid. advice from you guys, so I cut my synthroid in half and taking only 6 mcg of cytomel. but I have been taking 1/2 of cytomel in the morning and breaking the other half in two. so yeah that is 25 mg.
1956603 tn?1325036186 My doctor added the Cytomel around Dec 28th, I believe. I took the Tirosint first thing in the am with one 5mcg Cytomel and then took the other 5mcg Cytomel between 1-3 pm. I had been on Tirosint 150 mcg for several months prior to the Cytomel. I'm not sure what the change was between the past two results, but I am glad it happened. This is the best I have felt in years! My doctor would like to lower the Tirosint to 137 mcg but keep the Cytomel the same.
407745 tn?1230850087 I am taking Synthroid 100 MCG & Cytomel 5MCG what happens when you have too much T3 ? i have been looking for a new endrcrinologis, the dr.
Avatar n tn d have to reduce the amount of levo and replace with an equivalent amount of Cytomel (1/4 the Cytomel for the reduction in levo, e.g. drop the levo to 100 mcg and add 12.5 mcg Cytomel).
252327 tn?1250183976 Before cytomel I was tired , brain fog, joint pain. Cytomel gave me no palputaions..nothing..
Avatar f tn I have been on thie Synthroid for over 15years. I have been on the Cytomel for about 10 years. I feel like the Cytomel is a waste of money. I was thinking about gradually dropping it to see if I notice any changes. I feel that 5 mg is hardly enough to notice a difference. Does anyone have any idea how long it takes to stabilize or to notice the change. I have forgotten to take it on occasion and I don't notice a difference in energy.
Avatar f tn First day of taking generic Cytomel 5mg. Feeling tired after the second dose. Is this normal???
Avatar n tn I had a total thyroidectomy in October. I am currently taking 112mcg of synthroid. Although my blood work is where the dr wants it to be I cant seem to lose the 15lbs I have gained & everytime I eat my stomach becomes extremely bloated. I have even been asked when I am due! I weighed 120 before surgery & 135 now. I have been reading a lot about Cytomel. What is the criteria for adding Cytomel? Why are some pt's on it & some not?
